Letter to My European Friends

| To my European friends: I see from various polls that very nearly all of you support President Obama’s reelection. The numbers are remarkable, indeed incredible. More than ninety percent of you would vote Obama (94% of Italians, for example, and the numbers for Great Britain, France, Spain and Germany are even higher). Other numbers show that nearly half of you think you should somehow be able to vote in our elections, since American policies have such an enormous effect on you. All of which reinforces my belief—speaking as the grandson of Russian immigrants who arrived in Harlem and Western

Comments: I wonder if Donald Rumsfeld (of "Old Europe" fame) is a ghost writer of Michael Ledeen. This column serves as a warning to Europe: You are losing influence with us, but we are not going to wait for you to see the light; we are turning our faces towards Asia.

Michael,
There are more good Europeans than their mindless Obama-worship would indicate. The problem is mostly their dismal media situation. Think wall-to-wall Rachel Maddow x 1000 - and that's the more "centrist" European media outlets. The only political "debate" Euro media allows aired is between the Left and the Far Left (all else barely even worthy of scorn and ridicule). Euro citizens are trained by their utterly corrupt media to instinctively hate Israel and anything pro-American (they love Obama because they know Obama is anti-American). Given enough correct information and truth, many would change their minds, but the media-enforced political correctness is tightly enforced and monolithic, and it may take generations to break through it.

I thank you for posting this article. Ledeen will surely irritate a number of Europeans with this insightful piece. I so agree with him. Everytime we visit relatives in Yorkshire, England and Norfolk, the deterioration in the culture is so sad. It's dying bit by bit. The WW II generation sees it and you can discuss the truth of the situation. The younger lefties just want to diss America.

I loved the line about Europe becoming increasingly a theme park. So true. Come visit us, we have castles, fabulous churches, and fantastic art. We do build some nice cars. But we buy all our technology from the U.S. or Asia.

Madeline Albright is in Prague snarling about the "disgusting Serbs" who dare to call her a war criminal for bombing them to set up a Muslim terrorist state in the heart of Europe in what was the cradle of Serbian orthodox Christianity in Kosovo. Albright used American power to support the Muslim Kosovo Liberation Terrorists over the Serbs who had bee our allies during WW I and II. Europe supports the Palestinians and the Muslims - no wonder they like the Islamocomminist Obama. Remember when she said she did not know she was jewish at her confirmation hearing?- a liar like Hilary. Let the Europeans sort themselves out- they can have Obama after he is tried for treason.

What is also so disturbing about Europeans is their intolerance and tendency to authoritarianism. They are not content to simply observe that Americans are different than they are. Instead they exhibit a bizarre hatred of all things American. Like all leftists it is very difficult to discuss ideas with them. They just can't help reaching for anti-capitalist arguments and accusations of greed and contempt for the independence (read freedom) of the individual. They see these traits as threatening and undesirable.

On a recent mission trip to a poorer European country with significant Muslims, we did a lot of dirty, nasty manual labor. One of the locals was shocked and told us "we thought Americans were coming to order us around". Heavens knows what they read and are told about us.

Europeans have spent the last century hating the fact that they long ago lost their super-power status to the USA.
So, of course, they love N∅bama, because they see him destroying this nation and weakening us down to their level faster than anyone over there could have dreamed possible.
They know Mitt Romney will stop that slide and help to return us to the super power that we truly are. They hate the thought of that.

While extending the payroll tax cut through the end of last year, members of Congress last fall took what many feel was a long overdue whack at the cost of their retirement plan. They bumped up the rate at which federal employees contribute to their pension plan, saving an estimated $15 billion over the next 11 years. They also made sure that none of the increase applied to themselves. Anyone in service before the law went into effect would pay into the pension plan at the old rate. Mindful of the repeated rounds of cuts the military has already endured, Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, recently delivered a grim warning: "If you want [the military] to be doing what it´s doing today, then we can´t give you another dollar." His worries reflect reductions that started in 2009 and have reached crippling levels, even in President Obama´s proposals to avert sequestration. I take the general at his word, but I am concerned that the president does not. Sequester hurts national security, not just because 50% of the cuts fall on the military´s 18% share of the overall

A Texas high school student has filed a federal lawsuit against her school and her teachers after she was punished for refusing to salute and recite the Mexican pledge of allegiance. The Thomas More Law Center filed the suit on behalf of Brenda Brinsdon alleging the McAllen Independent School District violated the 15-year-old girl’s constitutional rights when she was forced to recite the Mexican pledge and sing the Mexican national anthem. Brinsdon, who is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and an American father, refused. She believed it was un-American to pledge a loyalty oath to

Wednesday night on CNN, legendary Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward stated that a “very senior person” in the Obama administration had threatened him in an email that Woodward would “regret” it if he continued to press the point that President Obama was the originator of the idea of sequestration, bore responsibility for it, and needed to stop redeploying defense resources to make political points. Conservative movie lovers didn´t suffer any serious Red State taunts during the just-wrapped Academy Awards telecast. Michael Moore wasn´t on hand to bash the GOP, and show host Seth MacFarlane trained his immature wit on George Clooney, breast-baring actresses and the show´s ridiculous length. And then it came time to announce the Best Picture winner, and Jack Nicholson stepped on stage to do the honors. Only Nicholson, and the show´s organizers, had something else in mind. Enter Michelle Obama. (snip) It was an unprecedented cultural power grab by the Obamas, almost daring conservative viewers to adore her as much as progressives

A new global campaign to persuade nations to ban "killer robots" before they reach the production stage is to be launched in the UK by a group of academics, pressure groups and Nobel peace prize laureates. Robot warfare and autonomous weapons, the next step from unmanned drones, are already being worked on by scientists and will be available within the decade, said Dr Noel Sharkey, a leading robotics and artificial intelligence expert and professor at Sheffield University. He believes that development of the weapons is taking place in an effectively unregulated environment, with little attention being paid to moral implications and

Diane de Courcy acknowledged that 13 countries reported on the story about an inspector with Quebec´s language office, the OQLF, who told a Montreal restaurant owner that the menu was too Italian because it didn´t contain the French translation for the word "pasta." After heavy public criticism and embarrassing international attention, the OQLF relented and admitted its inspector showed "an excess of zeal." It could have been a career-ending moment. Given the task of delivering the official Republican response to Barack Obama´s state of the union speech last week, rising star Senator Marco Rubio made a catastrophic gaffe. Republicans have a problem with young people 18-29. Democrats have a problem with seniors over 65. The story taken from this dichotomy is popular and simple enough: Republicans are the party of crusty old folks who are going to die, and Democrats are the party of the youth, who will lead a continued resurgence into office. I´m not so sure about this story; (snip) Indeed, if you came of age during the Franklin D Roosevelt administration, you are more Democratic than the nation as a whole. Middle class in the U.S. can mean something very different depending on where you call your home state. Census bureau numbers show a shocking disparity in the definition of ´middle income´ - with Maryland boasting an average of $67,469 and Mississippi posting an appallingly low $39,078, a difference of $28,391. Debate over the definition of middle class comes after President Obama´s State of the Union address this week. He detailed his plan to get the middle class back on track, mentioning the term a total of 8 times in his speech on Tuesday. ´It is our generation´s task, then, to

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
