Why East Coast Gas
Shortages May Not End
for a Week

CNBC, by Patti Domm *

Original Article

Posted By:BaseballFan, 11/1/2012 4:39:09 PM

Power outages at hundreds of gas stations and a distribution bottleneck due to flooding damage and power loss has caused a gasoline shortage in the New York metropolitan area that may not be cleared up for at least a week, according to industry experts. What was a problem for drivers when Super Storm Sandy ended two days ago has become a nightmare for frazzled motorists who find themselves in gas lines that can stretch on for hours.

Comments:
Uh-oh... right through election day.

There was a couple conversations on Gas Buddy where motorists were simply looking for any open gas station. At least an hour wait is the norm - if you can find one that is open.

I lived through the gas lines last time. Odd, even days. Turn your thermostat down and wear a sweater. No Christmas lights. The things I remember about Jimmah Cahtuh.

I don't know what they're complaining about. It's the same result the Libs have been trying to impose since the EPA was created.

Enjoy the 3rd world status because that will be your new normal if you choose poorly this election.

I really feel for these people. The subways are down, so if they can, they have to drive to work. Nanny Bloomies made their lives more difficult by making them have at least 3 in a car. The traffic is abyssmal, the traffic lights are all out in southern Manhattan making it worse. To add insult to injury, now they can't get gas for their cars and generators.

These people should be good and mad by Tuesday - wouldn't it be a shock if Romney won there? Improbable, I know.

Vice President Joe Biden, talking about the need to invest in America´s infrastructure, compared New York City´s LaGuardia Airport to a "Third World country." "If I blindfolded someone and took them at 2 o’clock in the morning into the airport in Hong Kong and said, ‘Where do you think you are?’ They’d say, ‘This must be America. It’s a modern airport.’ If I took him blindfolded and took him into LaGuardia Airport in New York, you must think ´I must be in some Third World country.´ I’m not joking,” Biden said at Philadelphia´s 30th Street Station, during an event to

U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan are investigating Taliban claims that they have captured a dog from a military unit. Militants released video Thursday showing a dog they claim to have captured from American forces fighting in Afghanistan. The U.S.-led International Assistance Security Force confirmed a dog had gone missing. The nationality of the dog was unclear, with U.S. military officials in Washington saying it belonged to a British unit. Britain’s Ministry of Defence said it was still investigating. Surrounded by bearded insurgents, the sheepish-looking, reddish-brown canine is pictured being held on a lead by a long haired man, wearing a harness

Federal officials are planning to announce Monday whether automakers should be required to equip new cars and light trucks with technology that enables vehicles to communicate with each other to prevent collisions. Such vehicle-to-vehicle communication could transform traffic safety. (Snip) A transponder would continually transmit the vehicle´s position, heading, speed and other information 10 times per second in all directions using radio signals similar to Wi-Fi. Cars would receive the same information back from other vehicles. A vehicle´s computer would alert the driver to an impending collision. Some systems could automatically brake to avoid an accident.

A weather system that brought a smattering of rain and snow to California has moved on with little impact on the state´s deepening drought. Though nearly 2 feet of snow fell in parts of the Sierra Nevada in Northern California this week, a snow survey there on Thursday found the snow water equivalent was just 12 percent of normal for this time of winter. The water in the northern and central Sierra snowpack provides about a third of California´s water supply. A suburban New York police chief who taught sex-abuse awareness classes to children has been accused of downloading and sharing more than 120 images of child pornography. Mount Pleasant Chief Brian Fanelli, 54, who has been in office about two months, was arrested Thursday by Homeland Security agents. In a complaint filed with the court, an agent says Fanelli told investigators that he first viewed child pornography as sex-abuse research for the classes he was teaching at a grade school and a middle school. But he added that he then began viewing the images "for personal interest," the complaint said.

Compared with when they were students, Americans today believe there´s a lot less respect in the hallways of the nation´s schools. A new Harris Poll out Thursday finds that fewer adults believe teachers respect parents or students - and that fewer believe parents and students respect teachers. In other words, just about every relationship in a school has soured a bit. In a first-of-its-kind survey, Harris asked 2,250 adults last fall to compare their memory of "school dynamics" when they were students with today. The percentage of respondents who agreed with the statement "students respect teachers" dropped from 79% to

Famed former CNN host Larry King said he has never heard of Juanita Broaddrick Thursday in an interview with Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV. Broadrrick, a former Arkansas nursing home worker, accused President Clinton of raping her during the late 1970s in a 1998 Dateline interview. Malzberg was describing a double standard of media coverage during the 2012 conventions, noting left wing pundits dubbed the GOP convention a “convention of rapists” while remaining silent on President Clinton’s keynote address despite sexual assault allegations directed against the former president. King interjected “Hold up, hold up. Stop! Bill Clinton was accused of rape?” Malzberg reacted

The Hill newspaper reported Thursday that documents released through a Freedom of Information Act request show meetings, events and phone calls where the two were together. At least every week now, there is a new story supporting the narrative of an inevitable 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential bid. Indeed, the conventional wisdom is that it is an absolute certainty that she will run. If anyone is currently saying, flat out, that Hillary isn´t running, I haven´t come across them. Is the inevitability of her run really as certain as the conventional wisdom suggests, and further, is it unfolding in an optimal manner for the potential candidate? In all likelihood, Clinton will not make a final, "go-or-no-go" decision until early next year, after the dust has settled from

Less than 24 hours after President Obama illegally rewrote the law he had previously jammed down Boehner´s -- and the country´s -- throat, Boehner handed the budding dictator a clean debt-ceiling hike. Last October, Obama vindictively shut down the federal government upon his having refused to delay ObamaCare, which of course is exactly what he himself lawlessly did on February 10, 2014! Of course, Boehner is hardly in a position to argue now, having foolishly (immensely so) accepted responsibility for the shutdown. The school of literary criticism known as reception theory holds that a text should be studied in light of its effect on its contemporaries, that a reader should be aware of the “horizon of expectations” in which a text is produced. I was reminded of this the other day as I observed, in amusement, fascination, and occasional pity, the reaction of the so-called mainstream media to Alana Goodman’s lengthy and rock-solid report on “The Hillary Papers.” This trove of previously unexamined transcriptions of conversations between Hillary Clinton and her best friend Diane Blair had been collecting dust at the University

Everyone knew there would be some gun owners flouting the law that legislators hurriedly passed last April, requiring residents to register all military-style rifles with state police by Dec. 31. But few thought the figures would be this bad. That 50,000 figure could be as little as 15 percent of the rifles classified as assault weapons owned by Connecticut residents, according to estimates by people in the industry, including the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation. No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps
