$1.6 million in electric cars
burn after Hurricane Sandy

Houston Chronicle, by Dan X. McGraw

Original Article

Posted By:SkyTexas, 11/1/2012 11:39:40 AM

Sixteen Fisker Karma electric vehicles caught fire and burned to the ground after being submerged by saltwater from Hurricane Sandy's storm surge. The $100,000 cars were parked in Port Newark, N.J., prior to the storm's arrival, according to Jalopnik. The vehicles were submerged when Hurricane Sandy's storm surge beached the port, flooding the luxury electric vehicles and other cars parked in the port. Jalopnik reported the cars "then caught fire, exploded." The website showed several photos of what remains of the vehicles.

Comments:
Exploded? In salt water? Well living in a beach town that certainly makes me want to run right out and buy one. Guess Obama never thought of this little issue.
And how about all the Government Motors Volts they have in California?

How ironic. Cars that couldn't be charged because of the blackout destroy themselves.

Trucker Observation: Not only do "Obama's electric cars burn in floods they burn in California apartment building garages. Several California cities are considering banning these vehicles. Don't worry taxpayers. Soon Fisker won't have any batteries for their cars. A123 Inc. (they took Obama's stimulus money) will be bankrupt and out of the business of car battery manufacturing. The money wasted by Democrats is staggering.

Pushed into the water to collect the insurance money, with the battery supplier now on the skids and buyers uncertain?

I believe Fiskar also got stimulus money even though they are located in a foreign country....more cronies of obama.

I guess you don't have to worry about some crook buying them with a salvage title, and then bringing them to Mayberry and selling them to Barney Fife.

So my public skool math tells me that $1.6M (16 vehicles) lost equates to $100k per vehicle?

No wonder these cars were still sitting on the lot. I could buy four clean diesel VW Jetta TDIs (55 mpg) for the cost of one of those Karmas.

I wonder what the insurance company will reimburse? I bet a lot less than $100k. That is the true picture of the value of that car.

The violent robbery of a television news crew outside an Oakland school last week was the latest in a series of similar incidents in a city where the rate of strong-arm robberies and holdups is surging. But the brazenness of the attack - which occurred during a live broadcast in the middle of the day - has brought fresh urgency to the problem. Union officials who represent reporters at most of the Bay Area´s major television and radio stations said Tuesday they had asked the broadcasters to immediately hire security guards to accompany news crews when they are in Oakland.

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"
