Mitt Romney, Throwback
Townhall, by Paul Greenberg

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 11/1/2012 7:25:46 AM

The policies Mitt Romney advocates might be quite new after four years of this administration, but his language is a golden oldie. By now, the retro phrases that punctuate his vocabulary have acquired a name of their own: Mittisms. Michael Barbaro and Ashley Parker, a couple of New York Times reporters, compiled an impressive list of them in a news story that ran in our paper the other Sunday. To run through them is to take a trip into the past: When he fell in love with his wife, Mitt Romney wasn't just in love, he was "smitten."

Comments:
Another thing to like about Mitt Romney, and the author thinks so too.

On 10/21/12, in response to “Gosh, Who Talks Like That Now? Romney Does,” my posted reply was:

“I’m guessing Michael Barbaro and Ashley Parker, two names new to me, who allegedly wrote this “article” for the New York Times inasmuch as their names appear under its headline, must be in some sort of junior high school work experience program for freshmen. It’s the only thing that explains how this “article” must have come to be. Sad to say, I read every word of it. Come high school, perhaps they’ll discover what loose-leaf binders are. They’ve been all the rage since Thomas Edison, on his lunch break one day, invented the three-hole punch.

In a nutshell, Mitt Romney speaks as a mature, well-educated adult.

By comparison, it’s my observation that Joe Just-An-Obama-Heartbeat-Away Biden speaks like a giggling, garbage-mouthed ruffian prone to out-gaffing everyone within earshot and eyesight; probably even unable to distinguish between an F-Bomb and an H-Bomb.

Finally, in the interest of “Journalism,” the NYT going the way of Newsweek cannot come to pass a moment too soon.”

I meant what I said then and I still do now.

The eloquence of language is one of the more tragic losses of our obscenity rattled age. I love to watch clips of the british parliment just to hear english spoken as it really should be.

In particularly heated debate true orators can completely emasculate, fillet and pack for cold storage an opponent all the while smiling and feigning cool indifference.

All in a tone and manner that would be welcome on Sesame Street. It is an art I only wish I was capable of.

Sadly for us a witty retort today consists of two words describing an act poets used to find beutiful. We are not better off for it.

Civility. He is educated. He is a gentleman. His language is American and it is not dated.

Profanity displays a weak vocabulary, an arid, underdeveloped mind.

Profanity is non-descriptive. Replacing it takes thought.

What #4 said. After the cool-hip-obama, and the damage he has done to this Country with his "cult" behavior, personally I cannot wait for a "throwback" if that's what the pathetic "msm" wants to call Mitt Romney! WE will call him a Great President!!

Reply 7 - Posted by: Donna M, 11/1/2012 8:40:49 AM     (No. 8979008)

Funny, I understand Mitt perfectly, and really like the way he speaks.

BTW, you will find that most historical reenactors also adopt the mannerisms and language of their chosen period. When I am at an event (I present living history for WWII Army Air Forces, Army Medical Corps women)it is such a relief to be able to converse in 1) complete sentences, 2) "$10 words" and 2)really colorful slang such as 'G-2' for information, 'fifth column', 'eight ball', 'java' and 'triple-A'--and people knowing exactly what you mean. Of course WWII pioneered profane slang such as FUBAR....

Gosh!

I will be glad to hear more refined language. 0bama's coarse colloquialism is out of place so much of the time. He doesn't know when to dress up and when to be casual, and the same goes for his language.

He calls us "folks" and turns around and calls enemies "folks" as well. It's like a dog licking your face right after he's licked his rear.

The Heritage Foundation announced the resignation Friday of senior policy analyst Jason Richwine, co-author of a controversial report critical of the Senate’s immigration reform bill. After Heritage issued the report this week, news articles pointed out that Richwine had argued in his Harvard dissertation that there was a long-standing difference between the IQ of white Americans and immigrants. Heritage had said earlier that those views were not those of the foundation. Friday afternoon’s announcement was part of an urgent damage control effort by the giant conservative think tank, which has come under

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews. Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington. America is becoming a more tolerant nation, we are told. Each new thing that we learn to tolerate makes us more progressive. But tolerance is a relative thing. For every new thing we learn to tolerate, there is a thing that we must stop tolerating. (Snip) The balance of tolerance and intolerance remains the same no matter how progressive a society becomes. A tolerant society only allocates its intolerance differently. America today tolerates different things. The report is certain to raise questions about the timing of the IRS’s disclosure of the targeting on Friday, how high up were the officials who knew about the practice, and whether anyone outside the agency was aware of it. Pelosi said it´s important to find out what happened in the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. But the right is taking it too far, she said in an interview with MSNBC´s Melissa Harris-Perry. The swooning teens will not accept allegations that the college kid — whom they refer to by his nickname, “Jahar” — and his brother, Tamerlan, 26, killed three and maimed hundreds by setting off bombs at the April 15 race. Let’s face it. The Great Gatsby never has been—and probably won’t ever be—successfully turned into a great motion picture. Many have tried (four flop movies, not to mention various small-screen attempts, including a truncated but memorable Playhouse 90 with Robert Ryan and Jeanne Crain in the golden days when TV still knew what quality programming was). Robert Redford was a perfect Gatsby in the pretty but boring 1974 version by Jack Clayton, but the movie was dead on arrival. Sen.
