Joe's Very Weird Uncle Day
Atlantic, by Serena Dai

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 11/1/2012 5:39:13 AM

Weird Uncle Joe Biden showed up to campaign for Barack Obama in Florida today, and man, was he on top of his weird uncle game. "I'm being a good Biden today," he said. How good? Well first, it being Florida and really sunny, Uncle Joe wore his signature aviators to speak at rallies—a perfect look for a Biden-licious day. He also talked about running for office...four years from now. At an unscheduled stop in Sarasota at old-timey restaurant Station 400, Uncle Joe was feeling good, hugging "aging groupies," as Los Angeles Times' Michael A. Memoli observed.

I remember, and got, those arguments too, #3. They tried so hard to make Sarah Palin out to be a moron, and yet, even 4 years ago, Joe Biden was already a known quantity.

America should have known better that this first official decision of Barry Obama was a giant red, flashing signal that he hated us.

The piece says it will all be over soon. Why do I suspect the author is talking about the campaign, not the irresponsible risk of having installed good old Uncle Joe as the next in line to the presidency. With Joe, it's always the wacky humor angle - never the dangerous irresponsibility angle, like it would be in, say, "other" circumstances.

President Obama is right. He told Major Garrett of CBS this week that “Mr. Putin’s decisions aren’t just bad for Ukraine. Over the long term, they’re going to be bad for Russia.” I believe that Putin’s adventures in Russia’s “near abroad” are a mistake. Indeed, they are part of a whole tapestry of wrongheadedness. It’s also bad for the Kremlin to crush dissent, censor the news, and hobble the economy by handing it over to oligarchs and a kleptocratic bureaucracy. Putin’s scapegoating and demonizing of gays isn’t only morally wrong, it’s not in Russia’s long-term interests either. That Putin prefers to

Matt Bevin, who is running against Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in the Kentucky GOP primary, has come out with a new ad defending his claimed affiliation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bevin tries to sidestep the MIT controversy in his latest ad by claiming that he never portrayed himself as a graduate of the prestigious school. “I’m a small-business owner, I’ve not had a resume in over 20 years. I’ve never claimed on a resume or to anyone ever that I’m a graduate of MIT. This is a lie made up by Mitch McConnell to distract you from

Chris Christie, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul lead the pack for the Republican presidential nomination. Meanwhile, former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton continues to hold a huge lead among Democrats, according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday. Three possible GOP candidates capture double-digit support among self-identified Republicans: Christie receives 15 percent, which puts him just ahead of Bush and

Washington -- Louisiana Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu is in the middle of a storm. She is beset by well-funded forces on the right who sense the Gulf Coast Democrat´s vulnerability in trying to defend a Senate seat in a red state. On the left, she is trying to avoid being pulled down by the undertow of a president whose decline in approval ratings and controversial health care reform law might not play well with her state´s conservative sensibilities. She´s been buffeted by rough re-election fights before, and in previous successful bids for the state legislature, state treasurer´s office and eventually

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the
