| MEXICO CITY/MADRID - After joining the euro in 1999, Spain's economic boom made it the land of opportunity for millions of Latin American migrant workers. But since the decade-long boom turned to bust roughly four years ago, many of those immigrants have returned, joined by a growing number of disillusioned Spaniards who hope that Latin America, with its developing economies and low cost of living, has more to offer. Spaniards are traditionally reluctant to emigrate and they are among the least likely in Europe to go abroad for work.

I'd rather be in Latin America than Spain, too. Notice that most of them are going to Chile, where things are good and growth is in the neighborhood of 6%-7%.
Spaniards should be able to come here, too, most speak good English and they are civilized types, they make excellent Americans.

Spain keeps it's economy in an iron, statist grip. Try firing anyone - anyone for two years of pay as severance? Entrepreneurs should consider relocating elsewhere. Chile would be my first choice.
A lot of Moroccans also immigrated to Spain during the good times. Wonder if they are going back home? (sorry - rhetorical question).

Deputy Spokesman Patrick Ventrell told the State Department press pool today that although the election results were certified, the U.S. would like a recount to occur in the Venezuelan elections. Multiple countries have recognized the new government and sent congratulations to the newly elected President of Venezuela, when asked if the U.S. government was going to do the same Ventrell replied, "We´re just not there yet."

Downtown Caracas people are on balconies banging their pots, as well as in east and southeast Caracas. Latin America: Venezuela´s election on Sunday, which saw bus driver Nicolas Maduro declared the winner by a razor-thin margin, reeked of electoral fraud. Kudos to challenger Henrique Capriles for calling it out. Fraud is a strong word but, yes, it´s the clearest conclusion from Venezuela´s election Sunday to pick a successor to the late socialist dictator Hugo Chavez. Chavez´s hand-picked successor "won" Venezuela´s election Sunday, with what Chavez´s anything-but impartial CNE electoral body declaring he´d gotten 50.6% of the vote, while his challenger, Miranda state governor Henrique Capriles Radonski garnered 49.07% — a gap of just 235,000 votes.

The 50-year-old former bus driver received 50.7 percent of the votes, the national electoral council said after about 99 percent of ballots were counted.
