Why Hurricane Sandy might cost Obama the popular vote—but not the presidency

| This year’s black swan arrived on a rush of wind. Once again, a highly unlikely, unanticipated event has roiled the waters—literally—late in the campaign cycle. Twelve years ago, it was the revelation of George W. Bush’s long-ago drunk driving arrest that likely cost him the popular vote and almost cost him the White House. Four years ago, the September collapse of Lehman Brothers and the near-collapse of the global financial universe turned a likely Obama victory into a certain one. And this year, the impact of Hurricane Sandy makes it more likely that we’ll see a presidential election where

Comments: As I've said elsewhere, libs seem to be conceding the popular vote to Romney, and pinning their hopes on a never-before-happened election where the incumbent wins only the electoral college.

In 2000, a once in over one hundred year event happened when Gore (allegedly) won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote. It didn't happen in 2004, despite the close popular vote. It didn't happen in 1976--also a very close vote--or 1960, when Kennedy won the popular vote by just 100,000 votes. But now the (liberal) pundits are acting like it is a frequent occurrence and a serious possibility this year. Even if the remotely possible actually happened, it is far more likely that the Democrat would win the popular vote and lose the electoral vote than the Republican. This is because there are a big concentrations of Democrat votes in big cities, which always deliver big Democrat majorities, legitimate or not.

Okay, so now if Obama wins the electoral vote but not the popular vote, the meme will be that the poor dem voters couldn't get to the polls because of Hurricane Sandy!--not that the 'will of the people' has been thwarted (as when GWB was elected). Got to have all the bases covered ahead of time!

This journOlism from the party that took a vote THREE TIMES to take God out of their platform then in another despicable act denied aid and support to our courageous patriots on the front lines of Libya 3X would have you believe the storm's implications are a function of "Romney's Global Warming" but It appears more like an act of God. It is difficult to fathom how the selective Blue storm and the crippling of the Huffington Compost would be beneficial to Obama given he was on the campaign trail and missing in action during the Benghazi Outrage. The big cat was first spotted around 2:00 p.m. in the 4500 block of New York Avenue. The sighting was not far from Clark Magnet High School. It took three tranquilizer darts to bring the animal down. They said he would get a quick health check-up and be tagged, before being released back in the mountains.

Luke Nichter of Harker Heights, Texas, said he’s not a renter by choice. The Texas A&M University history professor’s $125,000 of student debt means he has no hope of getting a mortgage. Nichter, 35, who’s paying $1,500 a month on loans for degrees from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, is part of the most debt-laden generation to emerge from college. Two- thirds of student loans are held by people under the age of 40, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, blocking millions of them from taking advantage of the most affordable housing market on record.

The parents of George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin clashed with emotional statements today, the one year anniversary of the Zimmerman´s arrest for shooting the unarmed Florida teenager. Zimmerman´s mother Gladys Zimmerman posted a two page letter online saying that her son was innocent and was arrested "solely to placate the masses." Hours later, Martin´s family and lawyer issued their own letter, stating the Gladys Zimmerman´s remarks were "disingenuous and disrespectful to the very system that is currently affording him every available opportunity to defend himself." The case has drawn white hot passions

A fisherman in Belarus was bitten to death by a beaver, and all he was doing was trying to take its picture, Sky News reports. The man spotted the beaver while fishing with friends at Lake Shestakov, but as he approached to take a photograph, the beaver bit him on the thigh. The animal managed to sever an artery, and his friends couldn´t stop the blood flow. Sky News helpfully reminds us that beavers can, of course, bite through trees. Beaver attacks are rare, though, and when they do occur, rabid beavers are generally to blame

RALEIGH — A new study suggests rising health care costs have taken a particularly large toll in North Carolina, where the number of residents who receive health insurance through their employers has dropped sharply over the past decade. The portion of North Carolinians under age 65 with employer-sponsored insurance declined from 69 percent in 2000 to 56 percent in 2011, according to the report released Thursday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. That change left 220,000 fewer residents with health insurance. Only four states had a larger percentage drop. Soaring health care costs

During an afternoon news conference at the Pentagon, Hagel also told reporters that the United States had "every capacity" to "deal with" any action taken by the North against the U.S. and its interests and allies. "North Korea has been, with its bellicose rhetoric, with its actions, skating very close to a dangerous line," said Hagel, with Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs

In Silicon Valley, the employee perks are the stuff of legend. Parents-to-be at Facebook are given a bonus to help with expenses and extensive maternity and paternity leave. Software company Evernote will pay to have their employees apartments cleaned twice every month. And Google — perhaps the most generous when it comes to fringe benefits — lavishes its employees with free concierge service and a cafeteria chock full of gourmet food. While these benefits are partially a product of the intense competition for qualified tech workers, they may also be a way for companies to simply increase compensation

The state health exchanges that are central to the U.S. Affordable Care Act are costing the federal government more than twice its initial budget to complete. The Obama administration expects to have spent $4.4 billion in fiscal 2012 and 2013 on grants to states that are building new marketplaces to sell subsidized health insurance, according to budget proposals released today for 2014. A year ago, the administration had anticipated spending about $2 billion. Including grants the administration expects to make in 2014, costs for the state-run exchanges will reach about $5.7 billion. The budget overrun doesn’t include

SAN FRANCISCO — California lawmakers are considering taking some tax exemptions away from youth groups that do not accept gay, transgender or atheist members — a move intended to pressure the Boy Scouts of America to lift its ban on gay Scouts and troop leaders. Some cities have withdrawn free rent and other subsidies from the Boy Scouts over the years, but legislation introduced by state Sen. Ricardo Lara would make California the first state to target the Scouts for its anti-gay policy. The Long Beach Democrat´s bill, SB 323, is scheduled for its first committee hearing on Wednesday.

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), one of the architects of the Affordable Care Act, said on Tuesday that the healthcare law, set to go into full effect in less than eight months, is “probably the most complex piece of legislation ever passed by the United States Congress” and “is just beyond comprehension.” Rockefeller said he is concerned that early missteps with implementing the healthcare overhaul may cascade into confusion and chaos. The law, said Rockefeller, is “so complicated and if it isn’t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse.” Rockefeller’s consternation echoes comments made earlier this

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

A few hours after Margaret Thatcher´s death on Monday, the snarling deadbeats of the British underclass were gleefully rampaging through the streets of Brixton in South London, scaling the marquee of the local fleapit and hanging a banner announcing, "THE B@&$! IS DEAD." Amazingly, they managed to spell all four words correctly. By Friday, "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead," from "The Wizard of Oz," was the No. 1 download at Amazon UK. Mrs. Thatcher would have enjoyed all this. Her former speechwriter John O´Sullivan recalls how, some years after leaving office, she
