Marriage on the Ballot
New York Times, by Editorial

Original Article

The freedom to marry is a fundamental right that should not have to be won or defended at the ballot box. In fact, ballot initiatives are a bad way to write or rewrite laws of any kind. Unfortunately, that is the reality of American politics, which is why same-sex marriage measures on the Nov. 6 ballot in Maine, Washington, Maryland and Minnesota could turn out to be pivotal in the struggle for marriage equality. Thanks to court rulings and legislative victories, same-sex marriage is now legal in six states and the District of Columbia, and polls show that a majority of Americans support the legalization of

Everybody's free too marry already...as long as they are male and female.

The fact that the Times must include a same-sex modifier means that even they don't regard it as the real thing.

But it's not just about gay, lesbian and bisexual couples. If your argument is perfect "equality" than marriage will no longer be a something it will be a whatever any two, three or a hundred people want to make it.

Let's destroy the family unit by redefining marriage as opposed to reinforcing marriage. Divorce rates, kids with no parents, ah...who cares?

Doesn't hurt our social structure at all...

Such a narcissistic endeavor, going against the laws of nature...we are god!

Regarding marriage, gays already have equal rights. For instance, as it is for a straight male, a gay man can marry a woman. A straight woman may not marry a woman. We have already redefined "secure", "privacy", "treason", "war", "make no law" etc. We are about three more words away from anarchy.

Once same sex marriage is approved by law we will be asked to approve polygamy. There will not be any logical argument against it.

Actually, gays can get 'married' now. Get a lawyer to draw up the proper papers (power of attorney, co-ownership of assets, etc.) then find a 'progressive' cleric to do a religious service of your choice. There are plenty of lefty clergymen out there who will do it.

Gays want what they can't have....approval and celebration by society. They will never have that so they continue to push. If they ever get the same sex marriage they won't be satisfied and will try to find something else to lobby about.

A point folks are overlooking is this line.

"In fact, ballot initiatives are a bad way to write or rewrite laws of any kind."

Really? How else are state residents going to get laws added or changed if they have a state house and/or Governor blocking them legislatively?

Ballot initiatives are a way to thwart politicians who feel they know what's best for the little people.

If you could go back in a time machine, and entreat the founding fathers to protect marriage by writing heterosexual marriage into the constitution, they would think you were totally mad. Indeed, the world has gone mad, with lasciviousness, lust and total abandon of Gods' laws.

Voting against Bushes is an act of love

A popular online dictionary offers four definitions for the word “bushed.” The first is “overgrown with bushes.” The second is “exhausted, tired out.” The third is a Canadian colloquialism meaning “mentally unbalanced as a result of prolonged residence in a sparsely inhabited region.” Each of these definitions seems to describe the Republican Party’s feeling about the Bush family. If that’s not true and the GOP nominates Jeb Bush for president — the third Bush since 1988 — then perhaps the fourth definition applies: “unable to find one’s direction; lost; confused.” There’s a case to be made that George H.W. Bush is an underrated president,

America’s top selling non-fiction book has much to teach about Wall Street malfeasance, but it also offers an intriguing perspective on diversity. The hero of Michael Lewis’ “Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt” is Brad Katsuyama, a Canadian-born investment banker for the Royal Bank Canada who transfers to RBC’s New York office. When he gets to the United States, the book explains, Katsuyama not only ultimately uncovers how high frequency trading is corrupting the stock market, he also becomes aware of his minority status for the first time in his life. “In the United States, Brad also noticed, he was expected to

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has started, over the past few weeks, to ratchet up talk of a potential presidential run in 2016. If that´s the case, the reaction he received this weekend at a gathering of conservatives in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire was not what he was looking for. Bush served as a punch line for — of all people — Donald Trump. "You know, I heard Jeb Bush the other day," Trump said during his speech at the Freedom Summit, hosted by the conservative groups Citizens United and Americans for Prosperity. Even as he sharply criticized President Obama for his handling of foreign affairs and health care, Mr. Bush made clear that he would run against the style of politics that has characterized recent Republican nominating contests.
