Lingering questions about Benghazi

| The attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi has become a political football in the presidential campaign, with all the grandstanding and misinformation that entails. But Fox News has raised some questions about the attack that deserve a clearer answer from the Obama administration. (Snip)But the anguish of Woods’s father is understandable: His son’s life might have been saved by a more aggressive response. The Obama administration needs to level with the country about why it made its decisions.

Obama lied and people died. David forgot to ask about the phony mob video story pushed for weeks afterward. The truth will probably come out after the election and heads will roll. This is a massive coverup and those involved should be dutifully punished. The Lamestream media have stooped even lower by ignoring this huge story.

These mediates continue to use Fox as their only resource in evaluating what happened in Benghazi. There's absolutely no journalistic curiousity from the rest of the media. They're more than happy to buy Obama's video story.
The left is also trying to create this image that this is a nothing story being ginned up by the right to attack Obama with. The emergence of the Seal's family has turned Obama's narrative on it's head and they're scrambling to figure out their next move to bury the story.

Ignatius makes the point late in the article that to bomb the area might inflame Muslim passions in the Middle East. Uh,...so? People who would sacrifice the lives of Americans on such a calculation cannot be in charge of keeping American personnel alive overseas. Do you hear the "battered housewife" talking?
These people cannot be in charge any longer. They are destroying the nation.

4 not optimal Americans were murdered on foreign soil...payback time.

I heard a very angry retired military officer on Fox say that evidently someone had indicated to whoever did the laser 'painting' that help was coming or they would not have used the laser. There are way too many questions and I pray this doesn't get swept under the rug. And I pray that after the election some people are put in place in the House who will DO SOMETHING other than hold hearings. Is Boehner keeping Issa from doing his job? Just wondering.

Bombing might inflame Muslim passions? What DOESN'T inflame Muslim passions? And what did blaming the video do? It inflamed Muslim passions all over the Middle and Far East as well as Africa, Europe and even the minute island of Mauritius in the middle of the Indian Ocean. How many of our missions in those countries were burned, how many personnel endangered and how much classified information stolen? All to save zippy's sorry butt.
Leftist are outraged by a remark made by a pro-life candidate, but murders, riots and the burning of our embassies are a non-story. Michael Savage is right - liberalism is a mental disorder..

We need a bipartisan commission after the election to take care of this three-fold treason.
1) Before the terrorisim - arming of Al Queda 2) During the terrorism - Allowing our Ambassador to be murdered on American soil 3) After the terrorism - hiding the true reason for the murder on an obscure video.

You are correct! It was American soil on which these men were murdered.
Sorry to double post... but, military people on this website can answer questions..
If an order to Stand Down is given, would it then be assumed that knowledge of conflict is underway?
We already know that a live feed was in the Situation Room... so, was popcorn and beer on hand for the reality show?
Who called the Stand Down will be the biggest most pressing question.

Oh, I think they've been noticing all along, OP. It is just that they have been forced by real journalism from Fox, and the courage of Ty Woods's father, Charles Woods, to finally show that they are noticing.
This piece is a prime example of how the "drive-by media" uses just enough truth to make their audience believe lies, imo.
For instance: The Benghazi tragedy was amplified by Charles Woods, the father of slain CIA contractor Tyrone Woods. He told Fox’s Sean Hannity that White House officials who didn’t authorize military strikes to save the embattled CIA annex were “cowards” and “are guilty of murdering my son.”
And: Looking back, it may indeed have been wise not to bomb targets in Libya that night. Given the uproar in the Arab world, this might have been the equivalent of pouring gasoline on a burning fire. But the anguish of Woods’s father is understandable: His son’s life might have been saved by a more aggressive response. The Obama administration needs to level with the country about why it made its decisions.
Sometimes a lie is not what you say, it's what you don't say.
Looking back over this piece, if I didn't know better, I'd think Ty Woods was just a contractor who stuck his nose into a situation and caused more trouble for the U.S., his father is understandably anguished that his son is dead, but his son caused his own death, the Obama Administration needs to explain why all of this isn't their fault, and that the "mainstream media" may be about engage in some "fog of battle" to help them do that.

No one in the MSM even mentions it. Obama and his entire administration LIED about the situation. They are still lying.

#16, that's exactly my point!
No mention by Ignatius that Ty Woods was more than a contractor. He was a former Navy SEAL who 'painted the target', insuring that those terrorists could be hit thus helping to quench that "fire" Ignatius mentioned.

Agree with #19. Ignatius raises a few questions. Big deal. It still comes out sounding like a ''fog of war'' situation. Those guys asked for help. Help was available. Somebody said ''No.'' Who said ''No'' and why?
And that business about getting muslims mad by taking action? Come on. Americans in danger, including an ambassador, you do whatever it takes to save them--unless, unless somebody with a clear head saw a situation developing that could have been a disaster for any on-the-ground rescue force. Absent that, the whole thing smells.

The last embassy to fall with killed or captured Americans was the Iran embassy. It too fell because a weak President allowed radicals to overthrow the government and seize our people. That batch is happily building nuclear weapons to destroy Israel and the US.
Now we have another weak president selling arms to rebels who want to start their own theocracy. They too thought this administration was weak enough to attack. For some reason this president didn't allow available resources to fight. The People are owed an explanation and some loud persistent questions from the Press.

Burning the American Consulate and the murder of four Americans is acceptable by the Obama Administration, because Obama was afraid to be a strong president. What would Obama do if all of our Middle East Embassies were being attacked and our ambassadors were being murdered? Probably stand down and apologize frantically to the Muslim attackers?

I may have an overly simplistic view, but, as I see it, when my country is being attacked, the last think I want our leadership to be concerned about is the emotional state of those attacking us. I wnt their focus to be on how to counter the immediate threat. I don't want them to lob a missle into a tent, killing some poor wayward camel, I want them to kill the people who are killing us.

The whole contractor thing is entirely stupid. That just means in what manner a given person is paid. In the military, there are contract gate guards, contract janitors, contract attorneys, and contract PhD scientists. These are just a few that I know are operating at our base. To call any of them just a contractor is devoid of almost any information. Totally different jobs and responsibilities and the people holding those positions have totally different educational and work backgrounds too.

This whole administration is corrupt. Add that to a media who has shown that they will do anything to make the boy king look good, and you have lies, omission of facts, and calculated indifference to the loss of American lives. What I feel for Obama absolutely pales in comparison to the utter contempt I have for the MSM in this country. The moral abyss we stare into now can be laid at their feet. Despite their boast of intellectual superiority, they are in actuality devoid of common sense and curiosity if it makes them question their tightly held beliefs.

You may get a few points for even bringing it up, but after reading the article, if I didn't know better, I'd think it was all a "fog of war" and what are you gonna do??. Pulleeeze!
No mention of the liar in chief and the video story by our simpletons in the WH. And I find it strange that he had some comments I hadn't read before, like "Woods in the car waiting with engine running". I thought I had read everything and hadn't seen that actual comment. So, seems to me this proves, the MSM is talking to sources, and are still trying to cover it up until after the election.
Thanks to Fox, and to Mr Woods, and the internet or the liars would get away with it. Another thing, they keep confusing this attack to battles in war. This is different because the attack was on American soil, and one of our ambassador's was targeted and killed. Why can't they understand that very major difference???

The idea that they were restrained in their response in order to NOT inflame the Muslim crowd is ridiculous. What doesn't inflame the Muslim crowds? They are digging for a response, I mean, a lie to cover this. And, with all those shovels for the shovel ready jobs, they just might find a suitable one. However, I believe this, and Fast and Furious and all of it will never be untangled.

Lingering questions ? Lingering ? How about a ton of unanswered questions ?!! How is it that 7 weeks later , the Commander in Chief still remains in the dark as to exactly what happened that night in the Situation Room ? I don't care if the Consulate was on fire because someone was smoking in bed-when Americans are in need, you send help ! Obama keeps acting as if the decision to send help was predicated solely on the original cause of the explosions. We now have a PC ..excuse me.. MC ( Muslim Correct ) threshold that must be met before our soldiers are allowed to defend themselves in Afghanistan and the CINC decides whether to rescue dying Americans . The Obama death panel has been with us long before Obamacare. It's a national scandal that the media continues to ignore this terrible story , compounded by the fact that Obama acts like OJ Simpson -searching the golf courses for the real Commander in Chief. No doubt wearing black golf gloves..and BTW-they do fit.

Total BS. Intel folks are NOT decision makers! When you put people out on the point, POTUS, you are obligated to do everything in your power to protect them. The United States has a strong, morally correct standard of "not leaving anyone behind," and that means you do what you have to to extract people in harm's way. This whole administration is so afraid it will do something to "offend" muslims that it is willing to let people on the point DIE. It is sickening beyond words. And depending on "locals" for embassy/consulate security? A policy doomed to failure, and what must be a non-reassuring position for those in the diplomatic community. We need to fire ZERO and his minions NOW (never thought Carter would look good).

If the president of our United States is still trying to figure out what happened to our Ambassador in Benghazi, Libya, then he & his entire staff are INCOMPETENT.
If he knows but he was lying then &/or now, he's a thousand times bigger CROOK than Richard Nixon & Bill Clinton put together ever were.
If he gave the order to Stand Down, then he is a COWARD who should not be our Commander in Chief.

There had been several terrorist attacks leading up to 9/11. The British Ambassador was almost killed... if i heard correctly on FOX last night, it was none other than Ty Woods who pulled the Ambassador to safety.
Ambassador Stephens and others had asked for more security; some resources were actually taken away...
pause and think about this
Now the attacks on 9/11, and BO et al needed more data?
IF military help had been sent, the mission would have had avery WAR-LIKE look.
BO has boasted everywhere he goes on the campaign trail: "I ended the war in Iraq; OBL is dead; al Qaeda is on the run..."
Therefore, sending military help to Stephens et al would have looked like war, with dead bodies and (newly) smashed buildings, smack dab on the eve of the election.

Amazing how this has become Obie's albatross. He really thought the msm could cover for him and run out the clock until November 6th.
On top of it, what does Obie do? He tries to cover it up and lie to the American people.
All he had to do was be straight up with us, sit at his desk on camera, look us in the eye, and admit he screwed up and is responsible for Stevens' and the Seals' deaths. But, nope, he decided his political behind and tendency to blame everyone but himself was more important.
Then there will be the typical whining and moaning by the left, the intelligencia, and the sheep after the election that there was a right-wing conspiracy. It's got to be a b#4ch being a liberal.

I think this is one of the first times I could tell that the reporter (David Ignatius) was 'tiptoeing through the tulips' in writing this story.
Normally, he's a good writer - but on this he's a wuss.
He knows in his reporters' gut that this is an Important Story... but his 'liberal' beliefs tell he 'can't go there.'
Shame on you David Ignatius for not acknowledging you KNOW the Truth, and subsequently chose to NOT report on it.

Time for rats to start jumping the ship, SS White House, sinking in the lies of Benghazi Lie yesterday: "It was the video that caused it", he lied to the world. Later replacement lie tomorrow: "It wasn't the video, we don't know, we're investigating and we'll wait for the results" (like AFTER the election, suckers). Lessons learned from compulsive liar Bill Clinton, upon hearing of best friend Vince Foster's prematurley labeled suicided death, said, "We'll never know what caused his death", sounding just like a prediction! The common thread, they both lied like criminals and they both had the total protection of the network media, Walter Cronkites then, Diane Sawyers today to totally overlook and FORGET the outrageios crime committed. Sick country when rich TV news people help in the commission of political crimes. Sick country no matter how ahard the valiant New Media counters the lies.

The remains of suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev have been buried in a Muslim cemetery in Doswell, a small community in central Virginia about 15 miles from the state capital of Richmond. Tsarnaev’s remains are interred at the Al-Barzakh Cemetery, the first Muslim cemetery in central Virginia, according to the woman who helped arrange the burial and to the Islamic Funeral Services of Virginia. The burial was coordinated Martha Mullen, 48, a Virginia woman who saw news reports about the protest outside the Worcester funeral home where Tsarnaev’s remains had languished for nearly a week, and decided to help.

DHAKA, Bangladesh - A seamstress buried in the wreckage of a collapsed garment factory building for 17 days was rescued Friday, a miraculous moment set against a scene of unimaginable horror, where the death toll shot past 1,000. Reshma survived, in remarkably good shape, by eating dried food that was in her area and drinking spare amounts of water with her. She was discovered on the second floor of the eight-story Rana Plaza building, where crews have been focused on recovering bodies, not rescuing survivors, for much of the past two weeks.

WASHINGTON — Five days before two bombs tore through crowds at the Boston Marathon, an intelligence report identified the finish line as an "area of increased vulnerability" and warned Boston police that homegrown extremists could use "small-scale bombings" to attack spectators and runners at the event. The 18-page report, similar to others sent to police and first responders before major events in the Boston area, was written by the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, which is funded in part by the Department of Homeland Security and helps disseminate intelligence information to local police and first responders.

‘Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night and decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?” That was how then–Secretary of State Hillary Clinton famously brushed off the question of when she knew that the attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were, in fact, a terrorist assault and not a “protest” of an anti-Islam video that got out of hand. Republicans on Thursday boycotted a congressional hearing for President Obama´s nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, putting the nomination in doubt and enraging White House officials who dismissed the act as the most blatant case yet of GOP obstructionism. The boycott was a major blow to Gina McCarthy´s chances of winning a filibuster-proof confirmation vote in the Senate, given that, without the Republicans, progressives can´t even get McCarthy through committee. Republicans said they refused to move ahead on McCarthy until the EPA adequately responds to their questions about her,

CLEVELAND — The twin brother of kidnap victim Michelle Knight yesterday recalled his shock at seeing her alive for the first time in more than a decade. “When I saw her, she was white as a ghost,” Freddie Knight, 32, told The Post. “But she told me, ‘Come over here and give me a hug. It’s been ages!’ ” “She was happy to see me. It was emotional. She even recognized me — even though it had been 11 years.” Freddie, who is estranged from their mom, Barbara, was the first family member to see Michelle after her escape.

She weathered Whitewater. She made it past Monica ?Lewinsky. Now Hillary Clinton is hoping to beat the rap on Benghazi and make it to the White House. The Clinton political machine is in full campaign mode already, preparing for 2016 and hoping voters forget by then that she had a key role in the Obama administration’s handling of the terror attack. But that’s becoming more difficult as the GOP appears to be laying the groundwork for tying Clinton to Benghazi and making sure it stays front and center in the next campaign. Some of the testimony from State Department whistleblowers

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula deserves a place in American history. He is the first person in this country jailed for violating Islamic anti-blasphemy laws. You won’t find that anywhere in the charges against him, of course. As a practical matter, though, everyone knows that Nakoula wouldn’t be in jail today if he hadn’t produced a video crudely lampooning the prophet Muhammad. In the weeks after the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, the Obama administration claimed the terrorist assault had been the outgrowth of a demonstration against the Nakoula video.

The secretary of state was back in Washington on Thursday, begging the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to take it easy on the poor Iranians. Enough with the sanctions, he said. Secretary Kerry has joined decades of his predecessors, buying into the latest version of the 30-year old illusion that we can make a deal with the Tehran regime if only we deal properly and humbly with them. He said there was a “window of opportunity” for a couple of months. It doesn’t much matter if he really believes this legend,

One question left mainly unaddressed by yesterday’s hearing on Benghazi — and by others, as well — is the lack of preparation by the Obama administration and the US military for the potential for attack in Benghazi. After all, terrorist attacks had been increasing steadily since the fall of the Qaddafi regime in 2011. Other Western nations had already withdrawn from Benghazi due to the security risks in the region, specifically from the radical Islamist terror networks able to operate freely in eastern Libya because of the removal of Qaddafi. U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford briefly crossed into northern Syria on Thursday to meet with Syrian opposition leaders. It is Ford’s first visit back to Syria since he left in February, 2012, when the U.S. embassy suspended operations in Damascus as the opposition effort to oust Syrian President Bashar al Assad developed into a full-blown civil war. Since then, Ford has become the Obama administration’s point man on Syria and point of contact with the Syrian opposition. A U.S. official confirmed Ford’s secret visit, which occurred along the Turkey-Syria border. He briefly crossed into Syria

As a presidential speech writer for the first Bush White House, I am always very interested in what presidents say in their formal speeches. They know, of course, that their remarks will be widely covered by the press, studied by analysts, and influential in contemporary political debates. For that reason, presidents rarely speak off-the-cuff, and their every word is carefully chosen for exactly the message the White House wants to convey to the public. Their graduation speeches, like all presidential addresses, go through many drafts and are reviewed by high-level administration officials

The most notable takeaway from Jay Carney’s incomprehensible Friday appearance had little to do with his Klingon grammar. Carney does not represent the historical value of the event – you should be wise to forget his performance, and instead take note that he was flanked by the entire room, without exception. Do not underestimate the significance: the Obama administration has not faced such an onslaught of truth-seeking since he took office in 2008, and further, no Democratic administration has been charged from all sides like this in recent memory. That press conference was unthinkable just days ago

Friday, White House press secretary Jay Carney blamed Mitt Romney and Republicans for “politicizing” the Benghazi terrorist attacks. Harkening back to a Mitt Romney press conference on September 12, 2012, which addressed the Benghazi attacks only in passing while focusing instead on the assault on the American embassy in Cairo, Egypt, Carney suggested that Romney had tried to target the innocent Obama administration for telling the truth about Benghazi. “Republicans, again, in this ongoing effort that began in the hours after the attack when Mitt Romney put out a press release to try to take political

Northwestern University continued to stumble over diversity issues this week as Mexican students voiced disagreement with a campuswide letter that advised students not to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by engaging in racially-offensive activities, such as eating tacos and drinking tequila. The letter was sent to students via e-mail, and published in The Daily Northwestern last week. Leaders of Alianza, a Latino student group, and the Associated Student Government called on students to remember that Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla. It is not a day to throw a sombrero-themed party, they said.

When it became clear last fall that the CIA’s now discredited Benghazi talking points were flawed, the White House said repeatedly the document were put together almost entirely by the intelligence community, but White House documents reviewed by Congress suggest a different story. ABC News has obtained 12 different versions of the talking points that show they were extensive edited as they evolved from the drafts first written entirely by the CIA to the final version distributed to Congress and to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice before she appeared on five talk shows the Sunday after that attack.

Earlier today, we learned about a bombshell report that said the CIA´s Benghazi talking points were changed 12 times, with extensive input from the State Department. It comes after State Department whistleblower Gregory Hicks testified Wednesday that he was shocked when he saw Susan Rice blaming a protest for the attack on numerous talk shows. Martha MacCallum discussed the next steps in the investigation of what happened in Benghazi with Hicks´ attorney, Victoria Toensing. At this point, she thinks "it´s about time" that House Republicans start issuing subpoenas,

Shortly before last November’s election I took part in a Fox News documentary on Benghazi, whose other participants included the former governor of New Hampshire John Sununu. Making chit-chat while the camera crew were setting up, Governor Sununu said to me that in his view Benghazi mattered because it was “a question of character.” That’s correct. On a question of foreign policy or counterterrorism strategy, men of good faith can make the wrong decisions. But a failure of character corrodes the integrity of the state. That’s why career diplomat Gregory Hicks’s testimony

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews. Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington. It´s been 11 days and counting since the Jets cut ties with Tim Tebow and 13 months since they traded for him. Much of the conversation in the past week and a half has been about which teams -- if any -- would be interested in the former Heisman Trophy winner. The usual suspects include Tebow´s hometown Jacksonville Jaguars, but new general manager David Caldwell has said in no uncertain terms that Tebow isn´t an option (laudatory commercials from local lawyers notwithstanding). The other, less conventional landing spot: New England. Coach Bill Belichick sees value where other talent evaluators don´t
