| Washington - What happens when political momentum collides head-on with cold, hard polling data? The answer could come Nov. 6 in Pennsylvania. On Tuesday, Mitt Romney added it to its list of “target states” for the last week of the campaign, meaning he will advertise in the commonwealth on Election Day and the day prior after largely ignoring the state for months. Groups allied with Romney will spend another $3 million on ads in Pennsylvania, as well. The reason for the switch? The Romney campaign is surging, operatives say. The Obama campaign, however, dismisses Mr. Romney’s “Big Mo”

This is the real reason Obama is going to NJ.When the gas station riots break out in NJ and NY this week you will notice that gas stations in Bucks and Allegheny counties,PA and in Northern Virgina will be getting priority deliveries.

From NBC - Team Romney outspending Team Obama, 4.6M to 1.8M in PA this week, 3.1M to 725K in MN, 2M to 445K in MI.
And Obama is flat footed with no organization in these states because they were sure they wouldn't be contested.

Being "on the ground" here in Virginia, I've noticed that Obama has pulled the majority of his ads off of Washington DC broadcast TV and my cable system. He still has a few ads running, and Romney has a few more, but it's not wall to wall the way it was only a week ago.
What this means is that Obama has basically conceded Virginia, freeing up Romney to devote his money to ads in "blue" states where the polls are close, like PA, WI and MI.

The Boston Marathon bombing suspect captured Friday night will not be immediately read his Miranda rights, a Justice Department official said. The announcement came as a debate broke out among lawmakers, lawyers and political activists over whether the suspect, Dzhokar Tsarnaev, should be prosecuted in a civilian criminal court or subjected to military interrogation and over when and whether Tsarnaev should be told about his right to an attorney. (Snip) The Obama administration appeared to be taking a middle course, holding off on advising Tsarnaev of his rights, but still directing him into the criminal justice system for prosecution.

Moscow - The main suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing are said to be two brothers from Chechnya, a mountainous and mainly Muslim republic in southern Russia that has been the scene of cyclical revolts and brutal crackdowns by Moscow´s forces for the past 200 years. Though Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev have spent most of their lives outside of Chechnya, their postings on YouTube and the Russian-language VKontakte social media site illustrate a proud attachment to their ancestral homeland and offer many hints that both identified closely with Chechnya´s defiant and fiercely independent mountain warrior traditions. Watertown, Massachusetts -- First there was a burst of gunfire. Then a series of blasts. Then, less than an hour later, cheers. After nearly 24 hours of a massive manhunt for one Boston Marathon bombing suspect that terrorized several cities and riveted a nation, the shouting and applause on the streets of Watertown, Massachusetts, was a welcome sign of victory. Police shouted, "Yay!" Neighbors clapped. "Is that him?" someone asked as an official in a law enforcement vehicle drove by the crowd. A person inside the vehicle said "Yes" -- and the crowd of residents erupts

MAKHACHKALA, Russia - A man who identified himself as the father of two brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombings said on Friday he believed his sons had been framed and pleaded with police to spare his younger son who was still on the run. U.S. police said they killed Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and were conducting a massive search for his brother and suspected accomplice, Dzhokhar, 19, on Friday after the bombings killed three people and wounded 176. Both ethnic Chechens, the brothers lived in Russia´s volatile Dagestan region, which borders Chechnya, more than a decade

Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev posted links to Islamic websites and others calling for Chechen independence on what appears to be his page on a Russian language social networking site. Abusive comments in Russian and English were flooding onto Tsarnaev´s page on VK, a Russian-language social media site, on Friday after he was identified as a suspect in the bombing of the Boston marathon. Police launched a massive manhunt for Tsarnaev, 19, after killing his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev in a shootout overnight. On the site, the younger Tsarnaev identifies himself as a 2011 graduate of Cambridge Rindge

MOSCOW — Chechnya, the Russian republic believed to be connected to the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects, has been the scene of terrorism and related violence since the 1991 break-up of the Soviet Union. Militants from Chechnya and other restive regions in Russia´s volatile North Caucasus have targeted Moscow and other areas with bombings and hostage-takings for more than 20 years. The allegations of ties to Monday´s Boston bombings are the first connection of terror attacks in the United States. Predominantly Muslim, Chechnya declared independence from Russia in November 1991. A full-scale separatist war broke out in 1994

King told his colleague Wolf Blitzer that a law enforcement source had given him one bit of physical description: The suspect was “dark skinned.” “A physical description was given to me of the suspect, Wolf. I want to be very careful here because this is very sensitive information, but the description given to me is a dark-skinned individual,” King said, according to the Daily Caller. “And I want to just stop there.

WASHINGTON - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose last week and factory activity in the nation´s Mid-Atlantic region cooled in April, further signs of a moderation in economic growth. The softening growth outlook was also underscored by another report on Thursday showing a gauge of future economic activity fell in March for the first time in seven months. They were the latest data to indicate a step-back in the economy after a brisk start to the year as tighter fiscal policy began to weigh. "The evidence is mounting that the economy lost momentum

Americans as a people "refuse to be terrorized," President Obama assured Tuesday, one day after twin bombs at the Boston Marathon left three of them dead and more than 100 others seriously wounded. On Thursday morning he arrives in Boston for an interfaith vigil honoring the victims of an attack being termed an act of "terror" but about which otherwise little is yet understood. (Snip) Now, anew in his second term, the president stands on a stage set that begs that tried-and-true consoler costume, but offers a script yet unknown to him: No defined suspects, no cut-and-dried crime scene

BISMARCK — North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says she could not support a measure to tighten restrictions on the sale of guns because it would have placed undue burdens on law-abiding people. A measure to expand background checks for the sale of guns failed in the Senate. Heitkamp was one of five Democrats who voted against it. In a statement, Heitkamp says she has thought a lot about the background-check measure and heard from North Dakotans. She says she voted to protect Second Amendment rights. Heitkamp says she believes the focus of gun safety should be on mental health issues

LONDON - The price of fame can be high with an international study on Thursday finding that people who enjoy successful entertainment or sporting careers tend to die younger. Shares of Apple dipped below the $400 mark for the first time since December 2011 amid concerns over slowing sales. Its shares fell as low as $398.11 in Wednesday trading, before ending the day down 5.5% at $402.80. The concerns were triggered after one of its suppliers, Cirrus Logic, which makes sound components for the iPhone and iPad, reported a decline in sales. With Apple due to release its latest quarterly results next week, some fear the numbers may be underwhelming. According to various estimates, demand from Apple accounts for nearly 90% of Cirrus´s revenue.

Yesterday, the most modest of gun control proposals died in the Senate. It would have expanded background checks to people purchasing weapons at gun shows and online sales, enjoyed 90 per cent support among the public and came on the back of the tragedy at Newtown. Yet, despite all that it had going for it, the Toomey-Manchin bill raised just 54 votes--six short of the number necessary for passage. “This is a pretty shameful day for Washington,” said Obama afterwards. It wasn’t exactly a red letter day for him, either. Why did the no-brainer bill fail? Four reasons:

We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.

While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom. Andrew McCarthy of PJM notes that "Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday´s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon," and that part of it is the natural outgrowth of the desire of investigators to keep the details of their investigations secret, so as not to alert suspects.

Mark Kelly, the astronaut husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, on Thursday upbraided senators who voted against gun legislation by saying they voted “out of fear.” ”If that vote had been a secret ballot, I bet you it would have passed with 80 votes,” Kelly told reporters. He was referencing the compromise authored by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) to expand background checks for gun buyers. It failed to advance in the Senate, with a vote Wednesday afternoon of 54 to 46.
