| Space shuttle Enterprise, NASA's original prototype orbiter, is sitting exposed and appears to have been partially damaged by Hurricane Sandy after the severe storm passed over New York City on Monday night. On public display aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, a converted aircraft carrier, since July, Enterprise had been protected from the elements inside a pressurized pavilion. Based on photos posted online, the inflatable structure appears to have first deflated and then been torn by the winds of the now post-tropical storm cyclone. Photographs show the 180-foot-long

Arguments aside regarding propriety of housing Enterprise in NYC, the damage can be fixed and is inconsequential on the grand scale of recovery from this disaster.

Mr. Pearlman's Thesaurus has overcome his knowledge of the subject at hand. Enterprise being "partially" damaged doesn't compute for me and Intrepid is certainly not "anchored" to a pier.
When not really knowledgeable of a subject, use a dictionary, not a "similar" word directory which is what a Thesaurus is.

Jarrett/Obama will order the shuttle to be repaired by a general contractor who is a Dem campaign contribution bundler. Should provide a month's worth of "shovel ready" union jobs at a cost just under $1 billion.

Much like Zippy blaming Bush for everything, is it safe to say this is Zippy's fault because if the space program wasn't shut down and jobs lost, it wouldn't be in NY in the first place ?

Investigators believe the bombs at the Boston Marathon were shrapnel-studded pressure cookers, hidden in backpacks and set off by timers, law enforcement officials told NBC News on Tuesday. The disclosure came as authorities pleaded with spectators from the race to send photos and video that may shed light on who set off the blasts, killing three people and injuring at least 176. The top FBI official in Boston vowed to go “to the ends of the earth” to find those responsible. But a day after the explosions, President Barack Obama said authorities still did not know

The word, and whether President Obama used it quickly enough or correctly, became a political issue in last year’s campaign. But Obama and his staff still appear to be puzzling over when — and how — to call an attack a “terrorist” act and when to wait for a clear determination of the motives behind one. (Snip) He did not characterize the attack as terrorism, advising instead that the public “shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts.” It was the caution of a president who once snapped at a reporter

There are many shocking and terrifying pictures of the Boston Marathon bombing, but one of a mysterious man on a rooftop during the second explosion has Twitter buzzing with speculation. The picture, taken by spectator Dan Lampariello, shows what appears to be a man walking on the roof of a building near the site of the second bomb, Yahoo News reported. The two bombs were detonated about 12 seconds apart at 2:50 p.m. near the race´s finish line. One of the first accounts to point out the mysterious figure was @Fraank_Oceaan, a parody Twitter for singer Frank Ocean.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fl - With no word on the perpetrators behind yesterday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon, speculation continues on who was responsible for the attack. No group has yet claimed responsibility, and officials have yet to identify the terrorists. However, there is increasing general conjecture that the coordinated attacks were the work of al Qaeda-linked terrorists. While authorities caution they have not yet compiled all the evidence in the case, many experts believe the timing, ferocity and coordination of the attacks point to al Qaeda terrorists. Not only did the two separate bombings target runners

CAIRO — A court in Kuwait on Monday sentenced a prominent opposition politician to five years in prison for insulting the country’s ruler, a crime that leaders around the Persian Gulf are prosecuting with increasing frequency in an effort to stanch emboldened protest movements, or stop protests before they start. In the last six months, dissidents in Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been imprisoned on charges that included either insulting or disobeying the countries’ leaders. Bahrain’s cabinet on Sunday was reported to have endorsed a penalty of five years in prison for offending the king.

DHAKA - One night in February, Rajib Haider was set upon near his Dhaka home by five knife-wielding youths. His face was so lacerated that a relative who found the body wasn´t sure it was him until he called Haider´s cellphone and heard it ring inside a pocket. Americans think more frequently about the possibility of a terror attack against the United States than they do about the much more likely prospect that they will fall victim to violent crime or be hospitalized, according to a new study from the University of Maryland Monday. A new report published by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism at the university reveals that about 15 percent of those surveyed had thought about the prospect of terrorism in the United States during the preceding week, significantly more than the percentage who said

Speaking of things that make you want to die, you´ve most likely heard about the sad, horrible case of the unlicensed abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell, whose Philadelphia clinic was exposed last week as a house of horrors. Gosnell and eight of his employees are now on trial for the deaths of one female patient and seven newborns, born alive, only to be immediately murdered by Gosnell. The death penalty is on the table. Part of the hubbub involves the fact that the investigation actually began three years ago as an expose of potential prescription drug abuse

The JFK Library incident is reportedly unrelated to the explosions at the Boston Marathon. Reports indicate that it was just a fire, not an explosion. However, police are investigating video footage to see if the fire was caused by a bombing. Earlier today after the bomb blasts at the Boston Marathon police scanners reported a possible bomb at the library.

In the future, white-knuckle fliers may be able to blame those brutally bumpy flights over the Atlantic Ocean on greenhouse gases. Turbulence will be stronger and occur more often if carbon dioxide emissions double by 2050, heating up the atmosphere, according to a study by British scientists published last week in the journal Nature Climate Change. Turbulence is created by atmospheric pressure, jet streams, air around mountains, cold or warm weather fronts or thunderstorms, among other conditions. Severe turbulence is responsible for an average of 58 passenger injuries a year,

Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral. Whitehall sources have revealed that the U.S. delegation at tomorrow’s service in St Paul’s Cathedral will be led by two Reagan era secretaries of state: James Baker and George Shultz. Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

President Obama pledged that the United States would punish anyone responsible for the explosions at the Boston Marathon today, but he said that “people shouldn’t jump to conclusions” about the tragedy. “We still do not know who did this or why and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before they have all the facts,” Obama told reporters during a statement from the White House. “Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice,” he added. The impending introduction of legislation to overhaul the country’s badly strained immigration system received an extraordinary endorsement on Sunday from Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, who, after holding back for weeks, appeared on no fewer than seven television talk shows to explain and defend a plan that he said would be “a net positive for the country, now and in the future.” It was a striking show of confidence from Mr. Rubio, one of eight members of a bipartisan Senate group that has been crafting a plan to provide a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants;

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
