Elect Altschuler in
1st Congressional District

Newsday [Melville, NY], by Editorial

Original Article

Posted By:Not your typical New Yorker, 10/30/2012 1:28:05 PM

Two years ago, newcomer Randy Altschuler came within 593 votes of unseating incumbent Tim Bishop in a dramatic vote count that lasted for more than a month. Now he's back to try again, in a congressional race that's garnering national attention -- and dollars. House Speaker John Boehner dropped by Nissequogue recently, to raise money for Republican Altschuler, 41, who co-founded CloudBlue Technologies, an electronics recycling company. Independent spending in the contest has so far exceeded $3 million. On Friday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo held a rally for Bishop in Hauppauge.

Comments:
This surprised me when I came across it, Newsday is Long Islands leftist newspaper.

Just goes to show how much of a slug incumbent far left congressman Tim Bishop really is.

And he IS!

Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.

Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of US Secretary of State John F. Kerry, was taken to a hospital on Nantucket this afternoon, according to a person close to the family. Heinz Kerry, 74, was stricken with an unspecified medical condition while at the family’s vacation home on the island, said the person, who asked not to be named. Her husband was at the home at the time. An ambulance was seen leaving the home on Hulbert Avenue at about 4 p.m., the person said. Heinz Kerry is heiress to the Heinz ketchup fortune and the widow of former US Senator H. John Heinz III.

Home-grown terrorist attack threatens

The Boston Marathon terrorist attack allegedly hatched by two brothers from Chechnya is threatening to disrupt President Obama’s second-term agenda. Opponents of immigration reform — the most promising priority of Obama’s second term remaining after the defeat of gun control — are already using the attack to try to slow progress on a bipartisan Senate bill. More broadly, the attack is raising questions about how the administration should deal with 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was captured Friday after an exhaustive manhunt in Boston, and concerns over whether the FBI was

Ted Cruz has made quite an impression in just three months in the Senate. Like Marco Rubio, he is the son of a Cuban exile. He is a extraordinarily talented guy. Unlike Barack Obama, he had a stellar record both in academia and in the practice of law: he was national debating champion, graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, clerked for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, was named by American Lawyer magazine as one of the 50 Best Litigators under 45 in America, served as Solicitor General of the State of Texas

Pompeo to Baucus:ObamaCare

Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) was not impressed with Sen. Max Baucus´s (D-Mont.) criticism of how the Obama administration has implemented its signature healthcare law. Baucus said Wednesday that he fears the implementation will be a "huge train wreck" because people do not understand what the reform law does. If it´s a train wreck, Pompeo said, Baucus has no one to blame but himself. "No one in the country bears more responsibility for the complexity of this law than you," Pompeo wrote in a letter to Baucus on Thursday.

When Senator Dianne Feinstein recently spoke to a San Francisco crowd, she accused the “gun lobby” of being responsible for stripping her gun ban from pending gun-control legislation: The National Rifle Association and gun manufacturers are to blame for the “disconnect” between the broad public support for gun control and the reluctance in Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein said Wednesday. Feinstein claimed the “NRA has intimidated senators with threats that the gun lobby would spend heavily to unseat them if they support” her gun ban.

In a letter dated March 22–but not disclosed until now–Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly urged Sen. Marco Rubio to leave the so-called “Gang of 8? senators drafting an immigration amnesty bill. Schlafly’s letter cited Ronald Reagan’s experience with the 1986 amnesty, which was followed by a wave of illegal immigration resulting in the approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants for whom another amnesty is now being considered. (“Reagan later admitted he regretted signing the bill and that it was a huge mistake.”) Schalfly’s letter, a copy of which was obtained by kausfiles, continues, in part:

Google should google it: Cesar Chavez’s legacy on illegal immigration may not be what Google thinks it is. Here’s a Ruben Navarrette column on the subject. As a labor leader, Chavez realized that uncontrolled immigration undercut his workers’ bargaining position–as late as 1979 he inveighed against “illegal alien strikebreakers” before Congress.. Some of his tactics were even less than Gandhiesque … P.S.: Of course, he changed his position in later years “under pressure from Chicano yaktivists.” That doesn’t mean his later position was right (or wrong).

The legislation would require stores to keep tobacco products in cabinets, drawers, under the counter, behind a curtain or in other concealed spots. They could only be visible when an adult is making a purchase or during restocking. While New York City would be the first in the nation to do this, Bloomberg says prohibitions

Kroenke Sport and Entertainment has purchased the Outdoor Channel for $227 million in an all-cash deal. The Outdoor Channel board considered Kroenke’s bid a “superior proposal” after Kroenke swooped in this week to outbid Hindery.

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials insisted Tuesday that extraordinary security measures for nearly two dozen diplomatic posts were to thwart an “immediate, specific threat,” a claim questioned by counterterrorism experts, who note that the alert covers an incongruous set of nations from the Middle East to an island off the southern coast of Africa. Analysts don’t dispute the Obama administration’s narrative that it’s gleaned intelligence on a plot involving al Qaida’s most active affiliate, the Yemen-based Arabian Peninsula branch. That would explain why most U.S. posts in the Persian Gulf are on lockdown, including the U.

Critics of the president are convinced that Barack Obama will do lasting damage to the U.S. I doubt it. Obama came to power in the third year of large Democratic congressional majorities. In his first referendum, he lost the House and he may soon lose the Senate; in other words, there followed a somewhat normal reaction against a majority party. Obama’s popularity rating is well below 50%, despite an obsequious media and a brilliantly negative billion-dollar campaign that long ago turned Mitt Romney into a veritable elevator-using, equestrian-marrying, canine-hating monster. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney jumped into the debate over the GOP’s future Tuesday night, warning congressional Republicans against forcing a government shutdown in their quest to stop President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. Romney addressed more than 200 donors on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party, staged just four miles from the vacation home where he has spent much of the summer with his family. The event was closed to the media, but his office released his prepared remarks.

The U.S. State Department issued a global alert about the terrorist threat allegedly posed by Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The USA announced the closure of its missions in the Middle East and Africa, and their example was followed by France, Britain, and Germany. However, this was only an attempt to justify the activities of the National Security Agency.Last Saturday, right after alerting of the terror threat civilians and BOLO complex ("be on the lookout") that includes law enforcement and federal officials, President Barack Obama went to play golf, and then celebrated his birthday at the presidential retreat at Camp David.

In a rare diplomatic snub, President Obama is canceling plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month. The decision reflects both U.S. anger over Russia´s harboring of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and growing frustration within the Obama administration over what it sees as Moscow´s stubbornness on other key issues, including missile defense and human rights. Obama will still attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, but a top White House official said the president had no plans to hold one-on-one talks with Putin while there.

Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. Over the last week, there has been a lot of buzz about a supposed CIA angle to the Benghazi story. Specifically, it has been alleged that a substantial number of CIA employees were on the ground in Benghazi, carrying out a mission that involved rounding up Libyan weapons and transferring them to rebels in Syria. Further, it has been reported that the CIA has leaned on its employees not to cooperate with Congressional investigations or the media, and it has been suggested that the CIA’s role in Benghazi may be related to the al Qaeda
