Romney wins Iowa prize,
outlines economic plans

Investor's Business Daily, by Andrew Malcolm

Next to the Miss Iowa Hog title, the most coveted temporal honor in the Hawkeye state may be the political endorsement of the state's largest newspaper, the Des Moines Register. Sen. Barack Obama won it in 2008, as the Democrat has for 10 straight presidential elections. Not this time. The paper too has had it with the Real Good Talker. And went with Republican Mitt Romney, as he explained his economic program.

I am sorry but do not give a rap about Iowa and who they vote for. I know it has something to do with the EC but I am all for a voter going to the polls instead of delegating their votes to some so called representative of the EC. Change the constitution if necessary.

Maybe, just maybe, Barack Obama is such a disastrous Dem candidate that even loyal democrat mouth organs have begun to leave the liberal plantation.

The problem with the democrats isn't that they believe in diversity or even socialism, but they fascists when it comes to tolerating anything other than the party line. People who know better clamp up and they end up living in an information bubble and cannot fathom the disaster than is going to overwhelm them on November 6th. There is a really huge preference cascade coming that will crash down and sweep all their decades of hard work of putting down the groundwork for conversion of the US to socialism.

An American savors the language
of Margaret Thatcher´s funeral

Britain staged the funeral of former British Prime Minister and staunch American ally Margaret Thatcher the other day. They skipped the RAF flyover at the request of Thatcher, a conservative thrift even in death. We wrote here about that impressive day, including its regrettably classless dismissal by America´s highest-ranking South Sider. It´s as if Obama already knows and resents how much more she accomplished as a leader from the front than he can ever dream of achieving from his chosen position behind. But today we want to ruminate on the language that day.

On Monday, an act of terror wounded dozens and killed three innocent people at the Boston Marathon. But in the days since, the world has witnessed one sure and steadfast truth: Americans refuse to be terrorized. Ultimately, that’s what we’ll remember from this week. That’s what will remain. Stories of heroism and kindness; resolve and resilience; generosity and love. The brave first responders — police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and National Guard — who ran toward danger to help their fellow citizens.

Hi, I’m Tim Scott, Senator from South Carolina. This week, on Patriot’s Day, a day that celebrates the beginning of our country’s journey toward freedom, a horrific tragedy occurred. The Boston Marathon bombing has left us all with a heavy heart and we pray for the victims and their families. However, while the perpetrators of this act of terror hoped that they could shake the confidence of a city, they have instead only strengthened the resolve of our nation.

Given the self-fulfilling, self-importance of the national media, anything of lasting political, social or economic importance by definition must happen in or be somehow tied to Washington, D.C. This media myopia helps explain the "surprising" news stories that regularly seem to burst on the national scene when, in fact, they´ve been percolating a while in states and cities around the country. [Snip] It is admittedly no easy task to professionally monitor what´s happening locally in 50 far-flung states, especially given the contraction of resources at traditional media news-gatherers.

It would have been interesting to be a waiter at the Jefferson Hotel last evening as Democrat President Obama dined with a dozen Senate Democrats after so angrily and thoroughly denouncing said chamber and said Democrats a few hours earlier. It was a mortifying day for the Chicago machine Democrat, unaccustomed as he is to fellow party members defying their titular head. Five Democrats joined 41 Republicans against 54 other Dems to defeat expanded gun purchase background checks in a vote requiring 60 to pass. Such checks were once considered a virtual gimme for the Oval Office shotgun buff.

In one of those ceremonial pageants the Brits invented, Margaret Hilda Thatcher´s funeral unfolded this morning on the old streets of London to the sounds of the classical music she loved and Bible verses in St. Paul´s Cathedral. So great was the global appreciation for the Iron Lady who led Great Britain from 1979-90, that 2,000 dignitaries attended, including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. This was the monarch´s first funeral of a former prime minister in nearly a half-century. [Snip] Alas, in a sad slap at its closest European ally, the American president sent no one from his administration.

The bloody scene looked more like Kabul or Baghdad Monday afternoon. But it was downtown Boston on a bright, shiny holiday at the finish line for the Boston Marathon. There, two trash can bombs went off, injuring scores and killing three, including an eight-year-old boy. The awful spectacle was doubly shocking to Americans because, Fort Hood aside, homeland terrorism has been largely thwarted since 9/11. To maximize the impact of their deadly cowardice, terrorists plan their deeds not for, say Mile 18 of a marathon.

Monday is April 15th, so hardworking families are sitting around their kitchen tables putting the finishing touches on their taxes. Our older son Nate, soon to be 10 years old, is a fourth grader at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Our younger son, Ben, age six, was murdered in his first-grade classroom on December 14th.

This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War -- a time when thousands of our prisoners of war finally came home after years of starvation and hardship. A group of our POWs emerged carrying a large wooden crucifix, nearly four feet tall. They had spent months on it, secretly collecting firewood, carving it using radio wire for a crown of thorns. It was a tribute to their friend, their chaplain, their fellow prisoner who had touched their souls and saved their lives -- Father Emil Kapaun. This is an amazing story.

One of the privileges of being a journalist for so many years has been the opportunity to witness some historical events in person. Now, of course, anyone can experience events once reserved for only a few. More importantly, I have discovered over time, has been the opportunity to talk with some of the most interesting people around, to probe their minds and learn to think in ways I had never imagined. No mind more so than that of Eugene Kennedy, a former priest and professor emeritus at Loyola University, who’s an expert on history, the church and human nature.

Federal law enforcement officials are actively investigating the possibility that the Boston bombers were known to the government’s terror-trackers, MailOnline understands. Any inquiry into the marathon bombing will look into whether agents could have taken action – but didn’t – to prevent the Tsarnaev brothers from obtaining the explosives that killed 3 and wounded 173 others. CBS News reported Friday evening that two years ago, the FBI interviewed the elder brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed in Thursday night´s dramatic shootout. The feds reportedly spoke to him at the request of an unspecified foreign government, but couldn´t

So once again, no good deed goes unpunished. Uncle Sam lets another bunch of leeching future terrorists into the country who have absolutely no business being here, gives them “asylum,” making them immediately eligible for welfare, and this is the thanks we get? They turn into mass murderers. We bring in thousands of Muslims from a primitive society that has been battling Christians for centuries, and put them into a peaceful Christian society — what could possible go wrong? This is what I was thinking about yesterday, with much of the city under what amounted to martial law.

In 1962, at the Carlyle Hotel in New York, a man “peeled off his clothing and began prancing around his hotel suite.” His bodyguards were cautiously amused, until the man “left the suite and began roaming through the corridor of the Carlyle.” The man in question was delusional, paranoid and suffering a “psychotic break” from the effects of an overdose of methamphetamine. He was also the president of the United States. The reason for John F. Kennedy’s bizarre behavior was that, according to an explosive new book, the president was — unbeknownst to him, at first — a meth addict.

The Massachusetts college student wanted in the Boston Marathon bombing was captured wounded, but alive after hiding out in a boat parked in a backyard on Friday evening. The arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev signaled the end of five days of terror set-off by the double bombing at the marathon finish line and the mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino, was quoted by the Boston Globe as taking to the police scanner to exclaim, ´We got him´. Relieved law enforcement officers began cheering and clapping after Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was arrested and is now in a serious condition at Beth Israel Deaconess

We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.

The Council on American Islamic Relations again offered sympathy to victims of the Boston Marathon bombing on Friday, but added a plea for Americans not to generalize and conclude that Muslim teachings influenced the suspect in any way. Washington — The governor of Massachusetts says he has no idea what motivated the terrorists who exploded two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Speaking Sunday on CBS’ ”Face the Nation,” Deval (deh-VAL’) Patrick said it’s hard to imagine why someone would deliberately harm, quote “innocent men, women and children in the way that these two fellows did.” Patrick also said law enforcers believe the immediate threat ended when the police killed one of the alleged terrorists and captured the other. The two men were brothers whose family had come to the U.S.
