Barack Obama, Mitt Romney polling
at a tie on Long Island

Newsday, by Laura Figueroa

Original Article

Posted By:ketchuplover, 10/28/2012 1:35:33 PM

President Barack Obama and Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney are virtually tied among Long Island voters, according to a Siena College/Newsday poll. Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts and co-founder of the Bain Capital investment firm, leads slightly among likely Nassau and Suffolk voters -- 47 percent to Obama's 45 percent. Seven percent of respondents said they were undecided or refused to declare their pick, and 1 percent opted for a third-party candidate. The poll has a 3-point margin of error. The results echo national polls that show a tight race leading up to the Nov. 6 election.

Since it's NY, the seven percent that refused to declare their pick are likely Romney voters. New Yorkers aren't shy about declaring their love for Stinky.

I love how the fear mongers in the media claim the "race it tightening" all over the country. No. It's tightening in once-thought-to-be-safe-for-Obama states. There's a difference.

No bumper stickers for Romney, because no one wants to risk the vandalism by angry Obama supporters.

Long Island was at one time home to one of the most effective Republican party machines in the country. Some towns are still staunchly Republican.

The Ed Cox mentioned in the article as Republican Chairman is Richard Nixon's son-in-law, via daughter Tricia.

In 2008, Obama got 53% of the vote in Nassau County -- 7% more than John McCain -- while today, Obama's getting only 45% in the polls.

That means that the Nassau County polls must have been sampling 7% more Democrats than Republicans. Which means Romney must be several points higher than the 47% he's receiving in this latest poll.

This must be happening all over the country. If the polling companies want to provide accurate results during the next nine days, they must base their polling samples on the latest polling results. For example, Nassau County's samples must be in a ratio of 45% Democrats to 47% Republicans.

The more polling companies do that, the more Romney's poll numbers should rise.

What struck me was the article calling 47% to 45% a "tie."

Where I come from that's actually a win.

When I was growing up in Long Island, I knew only one Democrat in the entire town until I graduated from high school. No Democrat stood the remotest chance in Nassau or Suffolk for years.

I once spent a couple of weeks on eastern Long Island. There are some very nice people out there.

Congressional leaders in both parties are engaged in high-level, confidential talks about exempting lawmakers and Capitol Hill aides from the insurance exchanges they are mandated to join as part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, sources in both parties said. The talks — which involve Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Obama administration and other top lawmakers — are extraordinarily sensitive, with both sides acutely aware of the potential for political fallout from giving carve-outs from the hugely controversial law to 535 lawmakers and thousands of their aides. In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing, we are suffering through the inevitable period of liberal hand-wringing. Liberals can’t help themselves: while normal people are reviling the bombers, celebrating their capture or death, and debating measures that can be taken to prevent future atrocities, liberals’ thinking (if you can call it that) goes in a different direction. Liberals call for understanding; tell the rest of us we don’t realize how complex mass murder is; recommend introspection (But why? I didn’t do it.); and warn against various forms of overreaction to the latest terrorist outrage. The reality of evil, a

Donations toward buying Watertown hero David Henneberry a new boat are already pouring in from around the country. The 66-year-old man who came face-to-face with suspected Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hiding inside his boat is the man credited for ending a nightmarish manhunt for the most wanted man in America. The after effect was a sacrifice, however, of a dangerous shootout that tore through his backyard, riddling countless holes in his boat that neighbors would describe as his ´baby.´ ´That boat´s his baby. Georgetown — Former Williamson County District Attorney Ken Anderson was arrested and booked into jail and then released on bail Friday after a specially convened court found that he intentionally hid evidence to secure Michael Morton’s 1987 conviction for murder. In a blunt and scathing ruling, District Judge Louis Sturns said Anderson acted to defraud the trial court and Morton’s defense lawyers, resulting in an innocent man serving almost 25 years in prison. “This court cannot think of a more intentionally harmful act than a prosecutor’s conscious choice to hide mitigating evidence so as to create an uneven playing field

If conservatives should have learned anything from President Obama´s first four years in office, it is that this chief executive has no qualms about ignoring the law whenever it becomes an obstacle to his ideological agenda, unless Congress or the federal courts force him to do otherwise. Exhibit A here is the Libyan bombing, which Obama´s own White House lawyers concluded was a "military action" requiring congressional approval under the War Powers Act. Obama bombed Libya anyway. Defenders of welfare used to argue, for example, that high benefits, or promises of training rather than required work, didn’t attract people onto the dole. Obvious BS. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, recently delivered a grim warning: "If you want [the military] to be doing what it´s doing today, then we can´t give you another dollar." His worries reflect reductions that started in 2009 and have reached crippling levels, even in President Obama´s proposals to avert sequestration. The Patrick administration clamped down the lid yesterday on Herald requests for details of Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s government benefits, citing the dead terror mastermind’s right to privacy. Across the board, state agencies flatly refused to provide information about the taxpayer-funded lifestyle for the 26-year-old man and his brother and accused accomplice Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19. On EBT card status or spending, state welfare spokesman Alec Loftus would only say Tamerlan Tsarnaev, his wife and 3-year-old daughter received benefits that ended in 2012. Tamerlan Tsarnaev is telling no tales. The older of the two brothers who committed the Boston Marathon bombings was likely the one who planned the attack, but when he died in a shootout with police just days after the blasts, his thoughts and motivations vanished with him. But the brain that was home to his angry mind remains, and in this case that may mean something. Tsarnaev was an amateur boxer who won the New England Golden Gloves competition as recently as 2009 and 2010. That speaks to a young man with a healthy sense

As Obamacare was winding its way through the Senate in 2009, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) slipped in an amendment requiring that members of Congress, and their staff, enroll in Obamacare’s health insurance exchanges. The idea was simple: that if Congress was going to impose Obamacare upon the country, it should have to experience what it is imposing firsthand. But now, word comes that Congress is quietly seeking to rescind that provision of the law, because members fear that staffers who face higher insurance costs will leave the Hill. The one clear thing that came out of last week´s chaotic activity in Boston, Massachusetts is that real reporters were missing. For that matter, they´ve been missing since last year´s attack in Benghazi. From Benghazi, the Gosnell abortion trial, gun control debates, immigration and then the Boston Marathon bombings, television news reporting has become positively painful to watch. The First Amendment to the Constitution grants freedom of the press but this was supposed to endow it with a responsibility to be the people´s watchdog. In retrospect, George W. Bush’s legacy doesn’t look as bad as it did when he left office. It looks worse. I join the nation in congratulating Bush on the opening of his presidential library in Dallas. Like many people, I find it much easier to honor, respect and even like the man — now that he’s no longer in the White House. But anyone tempted to get sentimental should remember the actual record of the man who called himself The Decider. Begin with the indelible stain that one of his worst decisions left on our country’s honor: torture.
