There’s a scene in the 1993 film, The Fugitive, in which Harrison Ford outruns a derailed locomotive in order to avoid being killed. In the real world, of course, he would have been crushed like a bug. Thus, one is required to suspend one’s disbelief in order to enjoy it. But it was, after all, fiction. In this respect, it has much in common with the response of many progressive pundits to the following observation made by Senator Max Baucus last week about the implementation of Obamacare: “I just see a huge train wreck coming down.”

President Obama is mad. Not raving mad, thankfully, just boiling mad. He used the awesome power of his office to make a public pronouncement berating Republicans, or 90% of them at any rate. Shame on them for not passing his common sense gun reforms. He called them and none could even offer a coherent argument. They let down the parents of Newtown. They would not try to save our kids. This despite his straightforward campaign in which he told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Resolved: No American citizen shall be required to pay federal income taxes at a rate higher than the country’s millionaire president pays. A country that stakes its future on lies will not have one. The fashionable lie of the moment is “gay marriage.” The push to deprive children of mothers and fathers for the sake of “genderless” marriage has never been stronger. The media propaganda about its “inevitability” is unremitting. One would think, judging by all the triumphant rhetoric heard this week, that over 30 states had approved it. In fact, over 30 states have banned it. According to the Washington Post, which just a few weeks ago was categorizing Christians as racists, the issue is all settled and done.

It was bad enough for the Obama administration to earn an overall grade of C-minus on its level of transparency from the independent watchdog group Cause of Action. When coupled with evidence of what is being hidden, the information makes the administration look even worse. The weasels who wrote the Obama health law postponed the pain until after the 2012 presidential election. Popular provisions were put into effect immediately, such as allowing children to stay on their parent’s plan until age 26, offering “free” colonoscopies and mammograms (in truth, forcing you to pay for them in your premium, whether you get them or not), and giving women the thrill of getting contraceptives at the drugstore without paying anything. This may sound odd coming from someone who has spent his life working in political reporting, but I find it extremely sad when people can’t separate politics from the rest of their lives. I’m not talking about people getting worked up about politicians; we live in divided times, so things are bound to get heated when talking about elected officials. I’m talking about people who say “I want nothing to do with [Person X] because he is a conservative/liberal/Republican/Democrat in his personal life.” This is why I find the Orson Scott Card thing so frustrating.

Michelle Obama did not walk the E!-streamed red carpet before tonight´s White House Correspondents´ Dinner — she was already at home, of course — so our first glimpse of her black Monique Lhuillier gown came later, once dinner started. And damn does she look good. This is a sexier look on her than usual, with a sheer lace panel over her decolletage and a molded bustier-style top. She very wisely chose a dress that photographs well while she´s sitting down, Schiaparelli-style, with elaborate beading along her collarbone and fitted cap sleeves that flatter her arms. Unlike you, federal government officials are immune from charges of fraud. The executive branch, vested with all of the government’s prosecutorial authority and discretion, is not going to investigate its own operatives for carrying out its own mendacious policies.That is the story of last week’s Boston Marathon bombing and the frantic efforts of the bombers, the brothers Tsarnaev, to evade capture, shoot it out with police (two of whom they killed), and — we’re now told — detonate more bombs in Times Square. Sanford - A new memorial was dedicated Saturday not only for Trayvon Martin, but for 10 other people who were killed in Sanford. Families of the victims used the occasion to share their stories and speak out for closure and justice. The new Trayvon Martin Memorial was established at the Goldsboro Welcome Center on Historic Goldsboro Boulevard in Sanford. It features Trayvon Martin’s name on a headstone and 10 other Sanford area residents who family members say were killed unjustly.
