Three Things We Learned from Romney’s ’91 Testimony
ABC News, by Sarah Parnass

| When 21-year-old, sealed testimony by the Republican presidential nominee from his friend’s heated divorce case is unsealed 11 days before a presidential election, interests are understandably piqued. Gloria Allred, the attorney representing Romney’s friend’s ex-wife, said the 430 pages of Romney testimony wouldn’t mean much without her client’s context to explain what is hidden. Those secrets will apparently stay secret, because the judge who unsealed Romney’s testimony in the divorce case between Staples founder Tom Stemberg and Maureen Sullivan Stemberg did not remove the confidentiality agreement surrounding the case.

Comments: Gloria? Where did you go in the last few days, Gloria?

...it seemed from what I can gather, Romney was truthful and transparent with the judge on his dual roles...
...in the end, Staples became a successful company, employing many. He must have found the ying/yang of his circumstances...
..."plan B"...welcome to the world of business ms. parnass...I call it having a "back door"...not every investment is successful...one would be a FOOL not to have a plan to minimize losses when failures occured. I don't think Romney had a reputation of taking leverage so as to gut businesses for profit though many would like to imply it...

Aren't attorneys supposed to know the answer before they ask the question? Shouldn't Allred have known that Maureen could not testify before going public with this big 'gotcha Mitt' scam? .... Yes, I thought so.
So, apparently, this Allred dame isn't so competent after all .....

Let the testimony speak for itself. We don't need the X-wife to tell us "what is hidden." Keep her gagged.

The 'gag order' was agreed to by all parties as part of the settlement that gave the ex-wife millions of dollars. If the gag order is to be rescinded then so should the entire settlement. She should give back the money.

Dear, dear Gloria, who is nothing if she isn't self promoting; a died in the wool feminist, Democrat and only interested in privacy when it serves feminist interests. There is nothing to this case, but what her nut case client can conger up from her imagination. And, Romney's lawyer encouraged the release of the transcdripts. So, there is no there there.

We have learned two things about the early stages of this kind of horrific event, and they ought to be operative here. First, it is a mistake to get too far out in front of the initial reports, which are almost always wrong in some details — sometimes, in some major details. It is Patriots’ Day, and that could be significant. It is also Tax Day, and that could be significant. And let’s not forget that it’s Monday and we are living in a country that has been the target of hellacious terrorist attacks by jihadists

If there were an award for Most Constructive Shaming of the News Media, the clear winner would be Kirsten Powers, the brave Fox News pundit and Daily Beast columnist. Last Thursday, she called out the mainstream media for failing to adequately report on the ongoing trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist who is charged with murdering seven newborn infants and a patient seeking an abortion. Powers’s USA Today piece provoked an instant response from many sheepish journalists. Megan McArdle of the Daily Beast acknowledged she “should have” written about the “horror Doc’s” clinic.

Representative Steve King, a 63-year-old Iowa Republican, is restless and irritated, and it shows. He’s here, stewing in a hearing room in the Rayburn building, because he and his friends in the House’s tea-party bloc feel disconnected from the debate on comprehensive immigration reform. “A number of us have sat back and watched with amazement as some of our colleagues have leapt to erroneous conclusions,” King says, sitting alongside five other staunch opponents of legalization efforts. “But we are where we are with the momentum in the Republican party.” A few blocks away, Senator Marco Rubio and his colleagues

The day after the bodies of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife were found, an anonymous email went to county officials threatening another attack if the writer’s demands were not met. Law enforcement authorities have since traced the threat to the personal computer of Eric Williams, a former justice of the peace who is now the prime suspect in the slayings. He is expected to be charged with capital murder as early as Tuesday, law enforcement authorities said Sunday. Authorities on Saturday found numerous weapons inside a Seagoville storage unit linked to Williams

My Times colleague Mark Mazzetti has a new book out that is getting a lot of attention, including some cinematic excerpts published in The Times, here and here. “The Way of the Knife” recounts the recent transformation of the Central Intelligence Agency from a traditional spying shop into more of a man-hunting paramilitary — custodian of lethal drones, sponsor of dark ops, employer of secret armies and shady contractors. As an assassination bureau, the C.I.A. has had some spectacular successes. (The Navy Seal raid that killed Osama bin Laden was led by the C.I.A.)

There was nothing especially subtle about the way Barack Obama played the politics of class resentment against Mitt Romney in 2012. “My opponent,” Obama brayed in Virginia Beach last fall, “thinks that someone who makes $20 million a year, like him, should pay a lower [tax] rate than a cop or a teacher who makes $50,000.” And there was nothing especially mysterious about the reason: Class warfare works. That fundamental reality of the Obama years—that the president won a second term in large part because he gave new life to an old brand of class-based politics—

As a rule, I avoid the weekly news magazines. They are filled with bad fiction disguised as “reporting,” and if I really feel the need to read mediocre prose I can always rely on the work of America’s growing horde of creative-writing professors. Nonetheless, I recently stumbled across a post in Time’s Swampland blog titled, “Obamacare Incompetence,” and succumbed to morbid curiosity. It seems that Joe Klein, a usually reliable Democrat hack, is deeply unhappy with the slow and clumsy implementation of the “Affordable Care Act.” Klein’s post focuses primarily on the implosion of Obamacare’s exchanges.

Following up on Steve’s post on liberal hypocrisy, below is the 2003 video clip of then state senator Barack Obama stating his well rehearsed position in favor of abortion rights and against proposed Illinois legislation supporting infants born alive but requiring medical support. This past September Ramesh Ponnuru reviewed Obama’s record and concluded: During Obama’s [2008] presidential campaign, pro-lifers argued that so extreme was his devotion to abortion that he was willing to support a right to infanticide. This charge is absolutely true. He believed that certain infants — those at an early stage of development —

When vice presidents seek their party’s nomination, they win. The last failed veep candidacy was in 1952, when Alben Barkley’s passive campaign failed at the DNC when labor union leaders expressed grave doubts about whether an ill 74-year-old was fit for the presidency. Since then, vice presidents Richard Nixon, Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, George H.W. Bush, and Al Gore all successfully won their party’s nomination—often comfortably. On average, these vice presidents held 45 percent of the vote in pre-primary polls. That should make Vice President Joe Biden well positioned to fulfill his lifelong dream

Recently, The Daily Beast disgraced itself by providing a platform for communist Bill Ayers to spread unchallenged lies about his background in the Weather Underground terrorist organization, which is presently the subject of an exonerating new film by leftist actor Robert Redford. The film, The Company You Keep, is not unlike the prior whitewash of communism Redford presented in the 1973 film The Way We Were, co-starring fellow left-winger Barbra Streisand. Following in Redford’s footsteps, some of the biggest names in Hollywood have just released an equally mendacious portrait of radical Angela Davis

Republican members of the Gang of Eight know they’ll have a tough time selling comprehensive immigration reform to a significant number of conservatives. Of course some in the GOP are still panicked by last November’s election results and will be inclined to sign on to almost any deal. But many of the more conservative Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill will have to be convinced that the Gang’s proposal is an acceptable way to go. It won’t be easy. Starting this week, with the release of the bill, the Gang will launch an extensive public information campaign —

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.

President Obama and I were college classmate at Columbia University, class of ’83. I know all too well how mindlessly liberal the students and faculty of that institution can be, and Barack Obama is certainly no exception. My time at Columbia made it crystal clear: liberals always believe they are morally superior. [Snip] It is in this cesspool of intolerance that Obama and his Marxist cronies hatched a secret plan to destroy our country. There are two things you need to know about Obama at Columbia University. First, he was Pre Law and a Political Science major- just like me.
