In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, Obama is interviewed by Douglas Brinkley and was questioned about Ayn Rand. When asked if he had ever read Ayn Rand, Obama replied, "Sure." Then he said, "Ayn Rand is one of those things that a lot of us, when we were 17 or 18 and feeling misunderstood, we'd pick up. Then, as we get older, we realize that a world in which we're only thinking about ourselves and not thinking about anybody else, in which we're considering the entire project of developing ourselves as more important than our relationships to other people

There is no way that the pot smoking slacker that Obama was at age 17 or 18 sat down and read Atlas Shrugged. In a tough interview he would have been asked for a few specifics. If there are are ambitious journalists left they would be salivating at the chance to challenge this charlatan.

Second. My family is filled with veterans, some going back to WW II. They have made huge donations to the WW II museum.
Given Brinkley's shilling for Obama, there will not be another dime donated to that museum, which is in New Orleans.

Since he was smoking his brains out during his later teen years I doubt he ever read anything. And if he did it was probably a Cliff Notes version. He obviously is a Cliff Notes kind of president. Just work around the edges but doesn't want to do any hard lifting.

Yeah, right...which book did you read?? Did you read one of her 3 fiction books or her non-fiction work?? He doesn't even know what she has written!!
Rand does go overboard in her glorification of selfishness. That is true. But people with half brain are not going to just take everything she says as being gospel. Yes, we need to have a certain level of selfishness to keep from limiting our potential and giving away our entire lives to mediocrity, but most of us who understand Rand do not accept it to the level that she does. We also believe in God and believe that we have a duty to help others who need it. But we also believe that it should be a voluntary thing--not a government mandate. At any rate, most of us keep it all in perspective and we also recognize that Rand had issues (some of it coming from the time in which she lived, some from her upbringing and a lot of it from the oppression of communism).

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women.
