| President Obama holds a six-point lead over Mitt Romney in a new Inquirer Pennsylvania Poll with just over nine full days of campaigning left for the Republican nominee to make a play for the state. Obama was the choice of 49 percent of likely voters, to 43 percent who backed Romney in the survey conducted for the newspaper by a bipartisan team of pollsters. The new numbers came out as one Republican group made a television ad buy on Friday that might signal a last-minute Romney push in Pennsylvania.

Expect the Media to pull out all the stops between now and Nov. 6th to try and convince the nation Obama is winning.
The look on their faces when Romney is declared the winner will be priceless.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates — Abu Dhabi´s new branch of the Louvre considers no artistic subject to be off limits but will not "shock for the sake of shocking", a top overseer said Tuesday. She spoke as the museum prepared to open a sample of its growing collection to public view, shedding light on the choices the city makes as it expands its international profile while testing how far to open its conservative culture. Objects including a medieval nude sculpture and Christian icons suggest the Abu Dhabi Louvre

Niamey, Niger -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited the uranium-rich West African nation of Niger on Tuesday, although officials discounted that the mineral was the reason for his visit. Niger´s President Mahamadou Issoufou denied international speculation that Iran had come in search of uranium for its enrichment program, which Western powers suspect might aim to produce nuclear weapons. "We have not brought up the question of Nigerien uranium. Iran itself being a producer of minerals," Issoufou said.

Via Jim Treacher, I learn that Snopes.com has a page on whether or not the Kermit Gosnell trial exists: Claim: Dr. Kermit Gosnell is on trial on charges of having committed multiple gruesome and illegal late-term abortions. Is this true? Or just an urban myth? Click here for the exciting answer. Maybe Snopes could look into whether American journalism exists.

Quetta, Pakistan - A major earthquake centered on a border area of southeast Iran killed at least 13 people in neighboring Pakistan, destroyed hundreds of houses and shook buildings as far away as India and Gulf Arab states on Tuesday. Communications with the area, a sparsely populated desert and mountain region, were largely cut, leading to conflicting preliminary reports of casualties in Iran. An Iranian provincial governor later said there were no deaths there. The epicenter was far from any of Iran´s nuclear facilities. Pakistani officials said at least eight people were killed and 20 injured in the town of Mashkeel

Tehran, Iran -- A major earthquake described as the strongest to hit Iran in more than half a century flattened homes and offices Tuesday on both sides of the Iran-Pakistan border, killing at least 46 people in the sparsely populated region and swaying skyscrapers and buildings as far away as New Delhi. Iran´s Red Crescent said it was facing a "complicated emergency situation" in the area with villages scattered over desolate hills and valleys. Iran´s semiofficial ISNA news agency and others described the quake, measured at least magnitude 7.7, as the strongest quake in more than 50 years.

Venezuelans faced the prospect of extended political instability after the country’s electoral council proclaimed Nicolas Maduro president-elect and opposition supporters prepared to march in the streets a second day to demand a full recount of the April 14 election. The government dispatched anti-riot forces in Caracas yesterday as Maduro, who received 50.8 percent of the vote, was declared the winner. Tear gas was used to disperse protesters who didn’t accept the government refusal to recount the vote as demanded by opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski.

It is George W Bush’s particular achievement to be disliked by both sides in American politics. Democrats of course excoriate the damage done to the budget by waging two wars while cutting taxes, his conduct after Hurricane Katrina and his shoot from the hip style, not to mention that fact that he presided over the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. His own Republican party utterly rejected him during the 2012 campaign. Tea Party types saw him as a big-spender guilty of extending federal government, while few who once stood with him were prepared to defend his military achievements.

Pope Francis on Sunday said clergy and Christians must not betray the word of God with their actions or they undermine the credibility of the Catholic Church. Francis, elected a month ago, inherited a Church struggling to restore credibility after a series of scandals, including the sexual abuse of children by priests. The pope spoke at the Papal Basilica of St. Paul´s Outside the Walls, where he celebrated Mass. He also greeted pilgrims and local Church members earlier in St. Peter´s square. "Inconsistency on the part of pastors and the faithful between what they say and what they do,

Rome -- Pope Francis told priests on Sunday to practice what they preach, saying the church´s credibility was on the line. During a Mass to formally take possession of one of the Vatican basilicas in Rome, Francis said ordinary Catholics need to "see in our actions what they hear from our lips." Francis has made himself an example of a more humble and frugal church by refusing many of the trappings of the papacy, living in the Vatican hotel rather than the Apostolic Palace and wearing a simple white cassock of the papacy rather than fancy vestments and capes

Margaret Thatcher is getting her revenge on the Nancy men who mocked her in life, and who continue to throw rocks at her in death. Her reputation as “the Iron Lady” who towered over a plastic age is secure, and she’s getting a funeral that her girlhood idol Winston Churchill got before her. Big Ben, the famous clock that towers over Parliament, chiming the quarter-hour since 1859, will fall silent during the obsequies just as it did for Sir Winston nearly five decades ago. This has put Thatcher critics in a froth of toxic bile,

Phoenix -- Authorities are investigating what was reported to be an explosive device addressed to Arizona´s Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in America" known for his strict treatment of jail inmates and cracking down on illegal immigration. The device intercepted in Flagstaff late Thursday was in a package addressed to Arpaio at his downtown Phoenix office, the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Office said in a statement. It appeared suspicious, so it was X-rayed and the device was detected. A bomb squad team neutralized the explosive, the statement said.

Someone ought to pull aside some of television’s talking heads and magpies of the left and explain how babies are made. They’re very, very upset that Mitch McConnell, the senator from Kentucky who is the leader of the Republicans in the U.S. Senate, is openly practicing politics, like an actress coming out of the closet as a thespian, or a shopkeeper shamelessly committing nepotism with his daughter. This is so far mostly of interest to a small but noisy conventicle of magpies, perched on telephone wires in Washington and Manhattan,

Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral. Whitehall sources have revealed that the U.S. delegation at tomorrow’s service in St Paul’s Cathedral will be led by two Reagan era secretaries of state: James Baker and George Shultz. Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

BOSTON -- The bombs that blew up seconds apart at the finish line of one of the world´s most storied races left the streets spattered with blood and glass, three dead, including an 8-year-old boy, more than 140 wounded and gaping questions of who chose to attack at the Boston Marathon and why. Federal investigators said no one had claimed responsibility for the bombings one of the city´s most famous civic holidays, Patriots Day. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

President Obama pledged that the United States would punish anyone responsible for the explosions at the Boston Marathon today, but he said that “people shouldn’t jump to conclusions” about the tragedy. “We still do not know who did this or why and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before they have all the facts,” Obama told reporters during a statement from the White House. “Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice,” he added. Two explosions occurred today near the finish line of the Boston Marathon,

MSNBC contributor Joy-Ann Reid told the host of Now, Alex Wagner, that she thought President Barack Obama’s response to the attack on the Boston Marathon on Monday was powerful and comforting in a way that President George W. Bush’s response to the attacks of September 11, 2001, was not. She accused Bush of being unavailable to the American people for the “first couple weeks” after the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Reid told Wagner that the president’s statement actively combatted the intention of the terrorists, which is to make their targets feel “discombobulated.” “Having, sort of

There is an individual in custody … he is not free to go. He is a Saudi national who was near the scene of the blast. When the blast happened he began to run.
