| Lena Dunham lost her innocence when she voted for Barack Obama, or so the 26-year-old actress-directrix claims in a creepy new ad for the campaign. "Your first time shouldn't be with just anybody," Dunham--no relation to Stanley Ann, as far as we know--tells the camera. "You want to do it with a great guy." She plays off that ambiguous antecedent for a wearisome 63 seconds. Her own "first time," she explains, was in 2008, with Obama, "someone who really cares about and understands women. . . . My first time voting was amazing. It was this line in the sand:

Thanks, OP, but I can't bring myself to read the rest of what she said. This is akin to beer ads, like the old St. Pauli Girl billboard with the babe holding the bottle that read, "Get yourself a nice, cold girl!"

Is a directrix anything like a dominatrix?? What a creepy, sick woman. Lefties are a twisted crew. I will say one thing though...I am proud that my first vote was for Ronald Reagan in 1980. At least I picked a winner and the greatest President of the 20th Century!

This is just weird. And who is this ad aimed at? It can't be old coots like me or anyone over 30. Are the Dems trying to encourage their GenX base? It's also a little over-the-top for a political ad. I know that sex supposedly sells but this ad looks like a dud to me.

There is something deeply pathetic about the spectacle this young woman is making of herself with such a puerile and tasteless attempt at humor. She is the product of a family and a milieu whose values and priorities have become dangerously disordered. She has no idea what she is doing. It is too bad someone cannot take her aside and give her the guidance she needs. Alas, it may be too late. She most likely cannot hear - and in any case is surrounded and encouraged by people as confused as herself. These are not the people to look to for the preservation of America. These are the future serfs of the omnipotent State.

This would be a funny bit on Saturday Night Live if it featured an attractive woman, or better yet, an attractive gay man. As a campaign ad it is a total flop.
Who identifies with this woman? It certainly isn't men. And even a homely woman doesn't identify with someone this homely -- that's why "average" women in commercials are anything but average, they're slender and attractive, and tat free.

Let´s dispense with the free-speech question first. In a letter to the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission, Mayor Michael Nutter writes: (Snip) The only correct answer to Nutter´s query is "Nuts!" The question isn´t even a close one: A magazine article obviously cannot be the "equivalent of ´[falsely] shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater,´ " which by the way is the laziest cliché in all of constitutional law. Nor does the essay in question, published in the March issue of Philadelphia magazine, run afoul of any of the First Amendment´s limited and narrow exceptions: libel, invasion of privacy,

Last week Bob Woodward had this to say in a CNN interview: "I think if Barack Obama knew that was part of the communication´s strategy--let´s hope it´s not a strategy, that it´s a tactic that somebody´s employed--and said, look, we don´t go around trying to say to reporters, ´If you, in an honest way, present something we don´t like, that, you know, you´re going to regret this.´ And just--it´s Mickey Mouse." Woodward just might have uncovered the biggest scandal since Watergate. And now the Associated Press´s Liz Sidoti has blown the story wide open.

A combative new 4½-minute ad from the National Rifle Association has drawn the attention of the White House, which "slammed the NRA as ´cowardly´ " for having, in the New York Daily News´s words, "dragged President Obama´s daughters into the raging debate over gun control by placing them in a controversial commercial": Spokesman Jay Carney said the NRA crossed the line when the group referenced Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14, in a spot calling the commander-in-chief an "elitist hypocrite" because his girls get armed Secret Service protection.

"What's welling up in America's ruling Democrats is not yet a full-throated scream of desperation," observes commentator Neil Macdonald, who is Canadian and therefore a neutral observer. "But as Samuel Johnson famously remarked, the prospect of being hanged in a fortnight concentrates the mind wonderfully." True, as Macdonald says, "for the most part, Barack Obama's supporters are still clutching the cloak." Mitt Romney is only slightly ahead in most national polls, Obama clings to a slender lead in Ohio (though Josh Jordan argues at National Review Online that those polls seem to overrepresent Obama supporters who say they've already voted),

Mitt Romney missed a golden opportunity during last night's debate. "The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back," Barack Obama said. The perfect comeback would have been: "Oh yeah? Well, the ocean called, and they're running outta ships!" True, Romney delivered a version of this zinger, but much later. His timing was all wrong. Oh well, maybe Romney can arrange another meeting with the president and get it right this time. We understand Obama will be in Ohio.

This columnist both laughed and cringed at the "Obamaphone Lady" video that last week got wide play on YouTube, with boosts from Matt Drudge and Rush Limbaugh. It's one of a series of interviews someone using the handle RealFreedom1776 shot outside a Mitt Romney appearance in Bedford, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb. The Service Employees International Union was staging a protest against the Romney rally. The Obamaphone Lady, who as far as we know hasn't been otherwise identified, is a middle-aged black woman with a loud, gravelly voice.

Yesterday, the most modest of gun control proposals died in the Senate. It would have expanded background checks to people purchasing weapons at gun shows and online sales, enjoyed 90 per cent support among the public and came on the back of the tragedy at Newtown. Yet, despite all that it had going for it, the Toomey-Manchin bill raised just 54 votes--six short of the number necessary for passage. “This is a pretty shameful day for Washington,” said Obama afterwards. It wasn’t exactly a red letter day for him, either. Why did the no-brainer bill fail? Four reasons:

WASHINGTON — New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer admonished colleagues not to “try to conflate” the immigration reform bill that the Senate is considering with the bombings at the Boston Marathon, the perpetrators of which have been identified as immigrants. “I’d like to ask that all of us not jump to conclusions regarding the events in Boston or try to conflate those events with this legislation,” Schumer said Friday at a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee on the immigration bill. As the hearing was happening, the Boston metropolitan area was on lockdown, as police attempted to

Latest 11.42 (06.42) The two suspects may be foreign nationals, according to NBC´s Pete Williams. Quote They were legal permanent residents... They were in this country legally, at least a year. They appear to be from Turkey, possibly Chechens from Turkey. That seems to be the nationality here. We´re told they were not students, in their early twenties. One 20, one 21. We don´t have their names yet. The Associated Press has also said the suspects are from Russian region near Chechnya, and had lived in the US at least one year. 11.25 (06.25) A woman in Watertown has snipers

We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.

While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom. Andrew McCarthy of PJM notes that "Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday´s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon," and that part of it is the natural outgrowth of the desire of investigators to keep the details of their investigations secret, so as not to alert suspects.

Mark Kelly, the astronaut husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, on Thursday upbraided senators who voted against gun legislation by saying they voted “out of fear.” ”If that vote had been a secret ballot, I bet you it would have passed with 80 votes,” Kelly told reporters. He was referencing the compromise authored by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) to expand background checks for gun buyers. It failed to advance in the Senate, with a vote Wednesday afternoon of 54 to 46.

Waco - Baylor star Brittney Griner has revealed she’s a lesbian. The Bears center, who was picked No. 1 overall in the recent WNBA Draft (to the Phoenix Mercury) and is considered by many to be an all-time great in women’s college basketball, casually explained her sexual orientation to Sports Illustrated. Griner was asked by SI’s Maggie Gray on the difference between men’s and women’s sports when it comes to acceptance of sexual orientation; why the WNBA has been able to often embrace many lesbians within their sport, while male sports in America still waits on its first publicly gay player.

The terrorist attack in Boston and evolving events indicate we have a domestic radical Islamic terror problem in America,” he wrote. “No more excuses. No more apologies. We are in a war of ideological wills and we shall prevail.”
