WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Leon Panetta calls the criticism of the Obama administration’s handling of the Libya terror attack “Monday morning quarterbacking.” Panetta defended the way the White House handled the aftermath of the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans who were killed during an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi for which terror group Ansar al-Sharia took responsibility. Panetta said that they didn’t have enough “real-time information” to send military forces to respond. “(The) basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces Source corrected by staff.
Comments: Keep telling everyone that you liar. No one believes you. I would assume there is a major meltdown going on in the regime with these reports by Fox News.
THere are four American deaths that could have been prevented if only you paid attention, you could have sent help but your making excuses then blaming others for monday morning quarterbacking. You and your boss are despicable and should be in prison for your dereliction of duty.
You would have had to be out of your mind to have gone into the armed forces during the past three years. You'd be serving under people who would see you killed in a New York minute if they saw it would bring them some advantage of some bizarre sort.
Fox reports that CIA chain of command turned down the former SEALs (were they CIA operators?) requests to be allowed to aid Ambassador Stevens.
CIA reports to the President, does not go through Panetta and DOD.
Likely that Obama is intentionally keeping Petraeus from speaking to the public. Also likely to me that Petraeus wanted to deploy CIA/military assets to go to help the Benghazi State and CIA people and turned him down.
Why? Obama did not want public to know that our Benghazi operation was buying weapons, including man fired anti aircraft rockets from Libyans to ship to Syrian rebels. Hence, earlier meeting between Stevens and Turkish arms shipper/ambassador.
Fast and Furious-North Africa/Middle East version.
By the way, didn't Obama kill Bin Laden? Just getting that out of the way.
The big, stinkin' liars are villains of the worst kind. They left those people to die, particularly the ambassador -- it was like he and the diplomat who worked with him were targeted by the administration itself.
This man needs to go. He doesn't understand the job or the purpose of the military forces at his command. The latter exist and are trained and equipped specifically for defending the lives of Americans under attack by foreign enemies. It is astonishing to be lectured by such a man that the conditions in Benghazi were too confusing and too dangerous to deploy forces to attempt to save the lives of a U.S. ambassador and his staff during an attack extending over many hours. He needs to go, the sooner the better. So do the military advisers -if any- would counseled such cowardly and lethal negligence. Indeed, if the facts continue to support what seems like criminal dereliction of duty, it would not be amiss to prosecute those responsible.
It's not Monday Morning Mr. Panetta. It's now a Friday afternoon over a month after the 9/11 attack and dead players are laying on the field. Instant replay is starting to show that the Coach knew what was going on and called a timeout.
Back offsite after several hours to find several articles excusing Zippy's tyranny and blaming Conservatives for the murderous Lybian debacle the administration has been promoting this past couple of weeks.
I heard the call to Rush today. There was a "hot line" if you will, (like an IM popping up on a screen) specifically for this purpose..the message was sent "Ambassador in peril"..right to the WH. The person receiving that message has the duty to see that it is delivered "face to face" immediately. It is way past time for Panetta, Hillary Clinton, Rice, etc. to stop the lies and trying to cover the Obama MASS failure to act. An Ambassador is technically the President while in a foreign country. Such is the magnitude of this failure.
Secretary Panetta defends "sitting on your hands" while brave men fight for their collective survival and lives. If I have misunderstood his defense of White House, DOD and State Dept inaction regarding the Benghazi attack, someone please interject?
This situation is way past gross incompetence and is solidly in the camp of dereliction of duty! Anybody and I mean ANYBODY that supports this lawless administration is an enemy of the United States of America! MSM, this means you!! This cover-up makes Watergate look like a kid’s tea party! At least no one died in Watergate and the left is still railing against Nixon!
Try to remember the number of men who went to prison because of Watergate. The line up for Behghazi should make this number appear tiny. Every damn one of them who is part of this belongs behind bars. Four men are dead who didn't have to die. Two heroes, both SEALs, refused to follow orders and gave their lives. And Obama and Hillary dared to stand and lie when their coffins were returned. They shame the world and they shame the memories of men who have earned congressional medals of honor.
30+ people were under fire. obama denied them the troops. If it wasn't for those navy Seals that came to the rescue after disobeying orders the number killed would have been many more if not all the Americans there.
I hope and hope that president Mitt Romney goes after these traitors but I do not think he has it in him.
Hire me. No problem! I can make sure these traitors pay.
More than a year after the Benghazi terrorist attack that led to the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans, there will be a public airing of the review process that was intended to quell all questions about U.S. government failings that could have led to the massacre. Instead, serious questions remain unanswered. The House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee hearing this Thursday, September 19, will feature Amb. Thomas Pickering and Adm. Thomas Mullen, who headed the Accountability Review Board (ARB), which was convened by then Secretary Hillary Clinton to determine the adequacy of security, availability of intelligence,
The Syria researcher whose Wall Street Journal op-piece was cited by Secretary of State John Kerry and Sen. John McCain during congressional hearings about the use of force has been fired from the Institute for the Study of War for lying about having a Ph.D., the group announced on Wednesday. “The Institute for the Study of War has learned and confirmed that, contrary to her representations, Ms. Elizabeth O’Bagy does not in fact have a Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University,” the institute said in a statement. “ISW has accordingly terminated Ms. O’Bagy’s employment, effective immediately." O’Bagy told POLITICO’s Kate Brannen in
The escalting war between MSNBC’s Al Sharpton and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly took an unexpected turn last night when O’Reilly revealed that he had donated $25,000 to Sharpton’s charity to help pay for Christmas gifts and dinner for underprivileged families in Harlem. Earlier today, Sharpton offered some choice words for O’Reilly in an interview, but this afternoon on his show he really let the Fox host have it. Sharpton pointed that like O’Reilly, he never mentioned the donation until now. “Bill doesn’t realize it, but this story actually reveals what kind of person he is… Bill gave that money privately
Fox TV Studios has pulled out of talks to produce a 4-hour-long NBC miniseries about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The two sides had previously been in contact over producing Hillary, starring Diane Lane as the eponymous politician. But Deadline reported this afternoon that “with the two sides far apart, and were never able to bridge the gap on the deal terms.” “The economics of TV movies and miniseries are challenging, which is why very few production companies take on such programs these days,” explained Deadline. “That includes NBC’s own studio, Universal TV, which would not produce NBC’s longform projects, including
It’s clear by now that if conservatives are ever going to even begin to roll back the overt, ongoing and worsening lawlessness of the Obama administration, they’re going to have to go over, through, or around the Republican party first. The GOP “leadership,” as presently constituted, is nothing more than the lesser half of the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Government, content to munch its cud and occasionally low in the direction of constitutional propriety, and then resume its own modest but lucrative role in fertilizing the “two-party” system. As evidence, consider Bob Costa’s piece today on Senator Ted Cruz, and the
Speaking Thursday at a joint appearance with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Secretary of State John Kerry admitted that there were “many al Qaeda leaders now operating in Syria”—where President Barack Obama decided two months ago to provide military support to rebel forces fighting alongside al Qaeda to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Asad. Asad is a member of the Alawite sect, which is a derivative of Shiite Islam; the Syrian rebels are predominantly Sunni, and al Qaeda is Sunni. According to the CIA, Assad’s Alawite sect represents no more than 16 percent of the Syrian population, while 74 percent
Egypt´s president on Friday suggested US President Barack Obama´s condemnation of a deadly crackdown on Islamists may "encourage violent armed groups". "The presidency fears statements not based on facts may encourage violent armed groups," it said in a statement responding to Obama´s condemnation of Wednesday´s carnage when police moved to disperse Islamist protest camps. "The presidency appreciates US concern for developments in Egypt, but it wished it could have clarified matters," said the statement published by the official MENA news agency. "Egypt is facing terrorist acts aimed at government institutions and vital installations," the statement said.
The Washington Post´s article detailing the fourth amendment abuses by the NSA got some push back from the administration who attempted to "edit" the article before publication. The internal audit referenced in the article was obtained by the WaPo from Edward Snowden. The details of the audit indicated repeated and growing privacy violations by the NSA, violations which included obtaining thousands of American citizen´s communications records and using methods of information collection that were later deemed unconstitutional by a court. The Post was able to interview John Delong, NSA director of compliance for the article and they were initially
There´s much talk about Chris Christie as the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 (yes, already). Christie is certainly gearing up for a run, and has begun by attacking potential GOP rivals. But while moderate Republicans like Christie for 2016, he is their version of what Rick Perry was for conservatives in the 2012 race: a locally successful governor whose attributes will not stand up well on the national stage. Perry had much to recommend him as a national contender: staunch conservatism on most policy issues, and an economic record that even liberals would find attractive. But his Texas
Hillary Clinton has worked her way back in the news by making racially-charged remarks to the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco. There is, she claimed, an ongoing “assault on voting rights.” But the only “assault” going on is a liberal assault on the truth about efforts to protect the integrity of our election process. Clinton’s polemic claims fit nicely within a calculated political strategy adopted late last year. At a December meeting in Washington, D.C., three dozen of the most powerful liberal advocacy groups providing money and manpower for Democratic candidates hammered out three agreed-upon objectives for
CBS ace Sharyl Attkisson is tweeting about the status of her Freedom of Information Act request for materials related to White House activities related to the night that four Americans died in the terrorist attack on the US facility in Benghazi, Libya. The FBI has denied her request. Sharyl Attkisson ? @SharylAttkisson FBI denied the Freedom of Info requests I made re: Benghazi...and I appealed the denials a long time ago. President Obama has tried to defend his health care plan lately by criticizing Republicans for trying to roll back ObamaCare without offering any alternatives -- despite the fact that Republicans have offered several. In a White House news conference a week ago, the president said: "They used to say, ´well, we´re going to replace it with something better.´ There´s not even a pretense now that they´re going to replace it with something better." Moments later, Obama elaborated, saying "they used to say they had a replacement. That never actually arrived, right? I mean, I´ve been hearing about this whole replacement thing for
Obamacare is imploding. But thanks to the government shutdown, everyone is talking about the implosion of the GOP instead. The shutdown drama has distracted from the fact that Obamacare’s debut is worse than many realize — and it threatens the fundamental viability of the law itself. The administration claims the Obamacare online exchanges crashed because the Web site got more than 8 million hits in the first week. Please. You know how many people visit Amazon.com every week? More than 70 million. The difference is: 1.) Amazon seldom crashes, and 2.) on Amazon, people actually buy something.
Every week during halftime of Sunday Night Football, Bob Costas gets to recite a personal essay about whatever hot topic strikes his fancy. This Sunday he chose the Redskins name, and spent a few minutes offering his commentary on the subject. Here is his statement in full. With Washington playing Dallas here tonight, it seems like an appropriate time to acknowledge the ongoing controversy about the name, “Redskins.” Let’s start here: there’s no reason to believe that owner Daniel Snyder, or any official or player from his team, harbors animus towards Native Americans, or chooses to disrespect them. This is
The rights of a transgendered Colorado high school student are being put ahead of girls the boy harasses in the girls bathroom. A male student at Florence (CO) High School who claims to be transgendered has caused controversy by harassing female students in the girls room, but will not face any discipline – this despite vocal protests from the girls’ parents. ‘The boy’s rights as a transgender trump their daughters’ privacy rights,’ the school has told concerned parents, according to CBN. Unidentified because all involved are minors, the students are being threatened with removal from sports teams or even hate crime charges
When I have described the well-considered, coherent political and economic strategies of the conservative white South, as I have done here, here and here, I am sometimes been accused of being a “conspiracy theorist.” But one need not believe that white-hooded Dragons and Wizards are secretly coordinating the actions of Southern conservative politicians from a bunker underneath Stone Mountain in Georgia to believe that a number of contemporary policies — from race-to-the-bottom economic policies to voter disfranchisement and attempts to decentralize or privatize federal social insurance entitlements — serve the interests of those who promote them, who tend to be
Ted Cruz’s “aw shucks” act is wearing thin. The Republican senator from Texas likes to pretend he is above the fray of Washington bickering, focused on large issues and too big to engage character assassination. But the reality is that Cruz is the Republican king of nasty attacks. He explodes rhetorical nuclear bombs on his opponents, only to feign outrage when his victims respond in kind, or in many cases, with relative spitballs. Take his defund Obamacare effort. The tactic to eliminate President Obama’s health care law had zero prospect of success, which Cruz undoubtedly knew despite what he sold the conservative
As the government shutdown enters a third week, a group of veterans and tea party groups protested their anger by storming the World War II memorial in Washington, DC. The protest Sunday started at the World War II memorial before moving to the National Mall and eventually winding up outside the White House. ´Tear down these walls,´ the crowd chanted. Protesters also sang ´God bless America´ and other patriotic songs as they entered the memorial plaza. The memorial has become a political symbol in the bitter fight between Democrats and Republicans over who is at fault since the shutdown began. Earlier rallies have
The prince of the pulpit may have a revolution on his hands. Four upstart clergymen have invited more than 100 churches to knock Rev. Al Sharpton off his Harlem political throne. Speak Out Say It Loud, headquartered at Mount Neboh Baptist Church on Adam Clayton Powell Blvd., is a new coalition of black ministers determined to create a unified African-American power base with citywide clout. Mount Neboh pastor Johnnie Green, 51, said Sharpton has neglected black New York while pursuing national fame and acclaim. “While (Sharpton) is jet-setting around the country, people are going to our churches saying they don’t have money to eat,”
“I sit here all day trying to persuade people to do the things they ought to have sense enough to do without my persuading them,” Harry Truman once lamented. “That’s all the powers of the President amount to.” As usual, the plain-speaking Truman got it right: presidential power is the power to persuade. Too bad the current occupant of the White House has never learned this basic lesson. Barack Obama’s refusal to negotiate with the Republicans in Congress on the government shutdown is proof once again that he doesn’t understand
As Cory Booker looks set to win the junior Senate seat in New Jersey Wednesday, his supposed neighbors in Newark say Mayor Booker doesn’t live in the Gateway City. Multiple residents of Newark told The Daily Caller that the longtime mayor doesn’t live at any of the addresses he has claimed as home. The mayor is believed to live in New York even though he is registered to run for New Jersey’s special senate election. Booker, who filed to run for the U.S. Senate from a B.O. Box in Newark, is registered to vote at 435 Hawthorne Avenue but his
Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) attended a rally protesting the closure of the World War II Memorial, according to reports. The lawmakers and the former governor – and 2008 GOP vice-presidential nominee – joined a crowd that removed barricades at the memorial and chanted “tear down these walls,” according to Washington, D.C., radio station WTOP. (Snip) The presence of a Confederate flag at the protest, which later moved to the White House, sparked an uproar on Twitter.
The American Indian leader spearheading the campaign to change the name of the Washington Redskins is not a legitimate member of the tribe he leads, according to a New York State Assemblywoman, but rather an Obama crony who is raking in casino money and paying back only small stipends to his tribe members. Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter, who is also the CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises, is not recognized in his position by the Grand Council of Chiefs governing the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy. Halbritter is not a legitimate member of the Oneida tribe, Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney told The Daily
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called on House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to work with House Speaker John Boehner to pass a grand bargain deal that would end the government shutdown, raise the debt ceiling, and protect Obamacare by not delaying or defunding it. On ABC News’ This Week, Graham said Ryan should team with Boehner to pass some kind of deal “that doesn’t delay or defund [Obamacare] but would be good government.”
