| Republican nominee Mitt Romney jumped back out to a 5-point lead over President Barack Obama in Gallup's daily tracking poll of likely voters Friday, and now leads the president 51-46. Obama and Romney are now tied, 48-48, among registered voters, and the president's approval rating dipped to just 48 percent, below the "safe" level for an incumbent's re-election. The results indicate the halting of what had been a pronounced Obama bounce over the past seven days of polling. Obama had climbed back from a 7-point deficit a week ago to just 3 points over the past two days.

I'd like to think that Americans with a reasonable value system are finding the recent remarks and advertisements by Obama to be repugnant. That is not attracting the independents, so Obama must be playing it all on getting out his far left base.

Watertown, Mass.– A number of gun shots were fired near Franklin Street in Watertown Friday night and it was believed that suspect number 2 in the Boston Marathon bombings had been shot. FOX 25's Bob Ward reported that as many 30 shots were fired in the neighborhood. Ward reported that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the man known as suspect 2, was shot by police. It was not immediately known if Tsarnaev was killed. A bomb squad could be seen responding to the scene. A massive police presence was also in the area. WATERTOWN — One suspect in Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings has been captured, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation. Another remains on the loose in Watertown after a firefight with police. Authorities have established a 20-block perimeter as they search for him. A scene of chaos descended on Cambridge and Watertown late Thursday night and early Friday morning, as police confirmed an MIT police officer was shot and killed, and an apparent carjacking led police on a wild chase into Watertown. Investigators have now cleared the two men whose pictures were circulated last night in an email among law enforcement officials, sources told The Post today. Authorities determined neither had any information or role in Monday’s attacks at the Boston Marathon. The pictures, which were distributed yesterday evening in an attempt to identify them, show the two men standing with a backpack and duffel bag near the finish line, where a pair of bombs killed three and maimed 176. Federal agents on Wednesday arrested a suspect in the mailing of letters to President Barack Obama and a U.S. senator that initially tested positive for the poison ricin. The suspect was identified as Kenneth Curtis of Tupelo, Miss., federal officials told NBC News. Both letters carried an identical closing statement, according to an FBI bulletin obtained by NBC News on Wednesday. According to the FBI bulletin, both letters, postmarked April 8, 2013 out of Memphis, Tenn., included an identical phrase, "to see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance."

While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom.
