| Attention voters! We have begun to witness locally, and at least in 14 other counties, efforts to suppress Republican votes in the upcoming election. Suspicious letters questioning voters' legal status and citizenship began arriving in Florida over the past four days with a postmark from Seattle, Wash., accompanying a $.45 stamp.(Snip)Much has been made of efforts to suppress the vote in recent months, but this effort is most disturbing. First, it is clearly well-funded and widespread as evidenced by the sheer number of counties and individuals involved, as well as the use of stamps. Second,

Should be easy to trace. This is interfering, intimidating voters and against the law. The Feds could easily find out who is purchasing large blocks of stamps, even if they have 100 to 200 individuals buying one or two rolls each. Plus, investigations should be able to determine where printing of these notifications were done. They could have all the investigating done and come up with suspects in a matter of days. Look how fast it was determined a You Tube trailer on the internet for 4 or 5 months with less than 100 views was determined to be the cause of the Lybia Assassinations.

I'd definitely suspect some kind of union op. These are the ''independent actors'' who have the budget and manpower. As for tracing the purchase of stamps, all supplies could have been sent to WA via UPS or similar - preprinted inserts, addressed envelopes and stamps. This could actually have been done anywhere. The WA mailing may have been to put as much real estate as possible between the op, the mail origin and the recipients.
Frankly, I don't have any confidence that this will be investigated...

I sincerely hope the residents of FL aren't having to go to the opinion pages of the media to get info on this. It should be front page above the fold in every newspaper and repeated on every local news broadcast. BTW, here in NC early voters have reported Romney votes on electronic voting machines have been magically becoming Obama votes at the point where you confirm your ballot. Officials say it is just a glitch and all of them have been caught before the votes were actually cast. I don't see how they can know whether someone confirmed their ballot without noticing the change. I seem to recall the same thing happening in 2008 and the "glitch" excuse was used then as well.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America´s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. After almost ¾ of a year the president finally holds a press conference but the press fails to show up. I mean they physically showed up but not journalistically. In the world of politics and press when the press fawns over someone they find a way to either not ask a probing question or they simply ask a non-consequential one. That is what happened on Wednesday when the president was served up a bunch of softball questions that made for one of the dullest press conferences in recent memory. NOGALES, Ariz.-A pair of Mexican drug smugglers in camouflage pants, bundles of marijuana strapped to their backs, scaled a 25 foot-high fence in the middle of the night, slipped quietly into the United States and dashed into the darkness. U.S. Border Patrol agents and local police gave chase on foot — from bushes to behind homes, then back to the fence. The conflict escalated. Authorities say they were being pelted with rocks. One agent responded by aiming a gun into Mexico and firing multiple shots at the assailant, killing a

Olympia, Wash. - Republicans are in position to extend their recent gains among governors as they compete for seats they haven’t won in a quarter-century. Of the 11 states with gubernatorial elections in November, eight are now led by Democrats, and each of the most competitive races is a GOP pickup opportunity. The numbers suggests that Republicans soon will claim 30 to 33 governorships after holding just 22 a few years ago — an advantage not reflected in the divided Congress or competitive presidential race. “It says that when people are choosing the government closest to the people,

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
