China blocks New York Times Web

BEIJING — An explosive story about the massive wealth accumulated by the family of Prime Minister Wen Jiabao prompted the Chinese government to block the Web site of the New York Times early Friday morning, just days before a sensitive, once-in-a- decade transition of power from Wen and others to a new generation of leaders. The article says that assets controlled by Wen’s family are worth at least $2.7 billion, a shocking figure even in a country where government corruption is rampant and popular resentment against the elite has increased in recent years. The scandal also complicates

That they blocked Obama.com is no surprise. They have to have a economically strong America to sell to. They are a near-slave labor, export based economy. The stability of China depends on keeping 90% of the country poor but too busy working to have the wherewithal to revolt. When the factories shut down because America isn't buying? 900,000,000 very angry, hungry Chinese with time on their hands.

Okay, it´s just a coincidence that the first day after the sort of closing of ObamaCare enrollment is April´s Fool Day. Still, we do seem to be entering a new phase of the ObamaCare mess saga: the everyday is April Fool´s Day phase, in which the administration and its supporters giddily proclaim that ObamaCare is a huge success. An alternate theme is that ObamaCare doesn’t exist, so what is the fuss about? Move on, people. An example of the first came when ObamaCare architect Ezekiel Emanuel went on “Morning Joe” yesterday, the sort of deadline for enrollment, and touted the “big surge”

“Before Congress, Cotton got paid handsomely working for insurance companies” –voice over for new Senate Majority PAC ad attacking Rep. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who is challenging Sen. Mark Pryor (D) This attack ad attempts to connect the dots: Rep. Tom Cotton made a fortune working for insurance companies, the story goes, and so he would happily do their bidding as Republicans dismantle Medicare. The ad even helpfully provides an image of connected dots. The problem is that these dots are as phony as a three-dollar bill. Let’s take a look, going through each of the key statements. Before the Obama administration gave an inaccurate narrative on national television that the Benghazi attacks grew from an anti-American protest, the CIA’s station chief in Libya pointedly told his superiors in Washington that no such demonstration occurred, documents and interviews with current and former intelligence officials show. The attack was “not an escalation of protests,” the station chief wrote to then-Deputy CIA Director Michael J. Morell in an email dated Sept. 15, 2012 — a full day before the White House sent Susan E. Rice to several Sunday talk shows to disseminate talking points claiming that the Benghazi attack began as

BOSTON - A Saudi Arabian man injured in the Boston Marathon bombings has filed a defamation lawsuit against Glenn Beck, accusing the conservative commentator of saying on the air that the plaintiff was "the money man" behind the attack. In the federal lawsuit filed Friday in Boston, Abdulrahman Alharbi says his reputation was "substantially and severely damaged" as a result of Beck´s statements tying him to the bombings. The 20-year-old Alharbi, who attends college in the Boston area, says in his lawsuit that he was injured in the bombings and was questioned by authorities who searched his apartment before determining he had

Some conservative political groups have run into trouble making ads that criticize Obamacare. The ads were intended to showcase "horror stories" from the Democrats´ national health care overhaul, but instead attracted zealous fact-checking and ferocious pushback from media outlets and liberal activists. The most striking example is a recent ad from Americans for Prosperity, the organization backed by Charles and David Koch, the conservative businessmen-philanthropists who have emerged as this year´s Target No. 1 for Democrats. The ad featured a Michigan woman, Julie Boonstra, who said she had been diagnosed with leukemia and given a 20 percent chance of surviving, but

The pull quote inside on A-2 is “The unresolved issues mean it is far too soon to know how President Obama’s signature domestic achievement will turn out.” In that case, why use the word “achievement”? Did they describe the Iraq War as Bush´s "signature achievement"? The government’s estimate of autism has moved up again to 1 in 68 U.S. children, a 30 percent increase in two years. But health officials say the new number may not mean autism is more common. Much of the increase is believed to be from a cultural and medical shift, with doctors diagnosing autism more frequently, especially in children with milder problems. “We can’t dismiss the numbers. But we can’t interpret it to mean more people are getting the disorder,” said Marisela Huerta, a psychologist at the New York-Presbyterian Center for Autism and the Developing Brain in suburban White Plains, N.Y.

The state with the most segregated public schools is New York. Other states with exceptionally segregated schools include California, Illinois and Michigan. These findings come from a longitudinal study of enrollment figures conducted by the Civil Rights Project at the University of California at Los Angeles, The Associated Press reports. The period studied was 1998 through 2010. New York, California, Illinois and Michigan are traditionally among the most reliably Democratic states in the union, as an interactive 2012 map created by Slate shows.
