Obama's Homeless
American Spectator, by Paul Kengor

Original Article

Posted By:garnet, 10/26/2012 8:09:21 AM

Those of us who lived through it will never forget the left's unceasing campaign blaming Ronald Reagan for the homeless in the 1980s. It was a vicious campaign, replete with the typical name-calling and nasty hyperbole. To this day, liberals haven't let go. "Reagan deliberately created 'homelessness,'" (Snip) There are more homeless right now, at this point in Barack Obama's presidency, than there were at this point in Reagan's presidency. That's significant because the homeless, at this point under Reagan, were used by liberals to torpedo Reagan's reelection bid. And yet, today, liberals are completely silent about the homeless under Obama.

Like Obama's brother living in poverty in Nairobi, Kenya, this just shows that Democrats, the complicit leftist media and Obama fundamentally do not care.

The media will report on the homeless in the early evening of 01/20/2013, right after they finish the story on the actual unemployment numbers and the roll President Romney had in creating the mess.

When Romney hopefully wins this thing, numerous articles about the homeless will again be appearing in the news, almost as if the homeless magically appeared out of nowhere. For now, the subject gets less coverage than Benghazi does by the corrupt news media.

Yeah, tell me about it! My particular town (a mid-sized city in the Southeast) happens to be a magnet for the homeless. Maybe it's because you can't throw a dead cat without hitting a soup kitchen; or maybe it's because of the relatively mild winters.

But all that is another topic by itself. My main point is that we're seeing a lot more homeless people here than usual. That may be because there's quite a few newly homeless folks on the streets here who would NOT NORMALLY BE IN THIS POSITION; and we didn't notice this before the 0bama administration took over. Doesn't help that his policies have basically made businesses afraid to hire anyone. Thanks a lot, Zippy.

This is one of the main reasons my vote's going to Romney this election.

In my hometown New Orleans, the combination of mild winters, lax open container laws and a lazze fair attitude make us a magnate for the homeless. What liberals and people in the human services industry cannot understand is that there is a segment of society that likes to live outside and have no reponsibilities.

And the reason homelessness actually took off in the late 1970s was Carter emptying the mental institutions, which was well-intended but deinstitutionalization led many to the park bench. Starting homeless shelters was quite the thing, then, and I knew people who tried, and ran into adamant opposition from leftist ideologues who opposed mere charity without a political/re-education angle. Wanted to use the hungry for political bulletin boards, or else let them starve. But there is a just God.

No, liberals -- you, yes, you, liberals created mass homelessness with your Nut Lib movement back in the early seventies. Then, at your instigation, most of the mental hospitals in this country were closed down, because you thought hospitalizing the insane was inhumane. The insane, the mentally disturbed and mentally incapable, were liberated onto the streets.

You, liberals, substituted a system of outpatient clinics where the insane were supposed to pick up their prescriptions and medicate themselves. Most of the thousands of mentally disturbed were not mentally organized enough to follow this regime, and not capable of holding a job that would finance rent.

The result is the ensuing homelessness mess which you liberals then cynically blamed on Reagan. Now it's Obama's homeless, so now you liberals find the whole shopping cart and cardboard box mess perfectly acceptable.
A real kumbaya moment, eh?

I have warned all my friends and family that we will be relentlessly told about the homeless the minute after Romney is in the White House. All those poor folks who have lost their homes will be front page news. And yes much of the protracted homelessness comes from mental institutions and various other safety net establishments being closed in the 70ies.

One of the reasons Clarence Thomas gives for the studious silence he maintains during Supreme Court hearings is that his fellow justices have shown an increasing tendency to talk too much during oral arguments, thus preventing advocates from presenting their arguments coherently. Yesterday’s Supreme Court hearing in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores and Conestoga Wood Specialties v. Sebelius suggest that Thomas is right. Paul D. Clement, who appeared on behalf of the two companies challenging the Obamacare contraception mandate, was repeatedly interrupted and badgered by justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Ginsburg.

The most febrile of George W. Bush haters liked to claim during his tenure that the former president "scared" them. There is far more reason to be frightened by President Barack Obama, because fecklessness and inconstancy trigger wars. The outstanding example of weakness inviting aggression was the conduct of the democracies toward Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. Though it has been retroactively tainted as shameful cowardice, the policy of appeasement grew out of a "war weariness" that was far more understandable than our own. Britain and France suffered millions of dead and wounded in World War I and were desperate to

And now, in one of the few governor’s races Republicans see as a pickup opportunity this year, private-equity millionaire Bruce Rauner is poised to give Illinois governor Pat Quinn a run for his money and has a real shot at becoming the state’s first Republican governor in over a decade. Rauner set unions on edge during the primary campaign, criticizing their leaders and pledging to reform the state’s bankrupt pension system.

The president´s congressional supporters realize that the administration´s version of the agency´s targeting of conservative nonprofits seeking tax-exempt status—such as blaming local officials in the Cincinnati office or claiming that liberal groups were victimized along with conservative groups—is nonsense. Instead of debating the substance, they have resorted to procedural antics and misleading rhetoric. I have spent a considerable amount of time and energy on the investigation—which included 38 daylong interviews of IRS and Treasury employees ranging from line employees in Cincinnati to the IRS commissioner to the chief

Is anybody looking dumber than Bill de Blasio right about now? Tuesday’s Quinnipiac University poll gave him a 45 percent public-approval rating, down from 53 percent in January. This is consistent with earlier surveys, and it is astonishingly low for a new mayor. But de Blasio has been stepping in cow pies since he took his hand off the Bible on Inauguration Day. The consequences have ranged from minor embarrassments to the humiliating drubbing he’s now taking from Gov. Cuomo on education reform.

Next Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments concerning constitutional challenges to Obamacare’s contraception mandate brought by Hobby Lobby Stores and Conestoga Wood Specialties. (snip) Neither company objects to birth control, per se. Indeed, both provide coverage to their employees for most types of contraception. Yet civilization as we know it will collapse if the justices rule in their favor, according to the increasingly shrill prognostications of panicky liberals. Such a decision, progressives shriek, would constitute a victory for the dark forces behind the “war on women,” erode employee protections against discrimination, and dramatically reduce access to health care

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor.
