Mental Hospital Voter Sign-Up Questioned
Carolina Journal (Raleigh, NC), by Don Carrington

Original Article

Posted By:rivlax, 10/26/2012 8:00:41 AM

Cherry Hospital, a state-run adult inpatient psychiatric facility in Goldsboro, welcomed a federally funded nonprofit organization to conduct a voter registration drive of mental patients, likely a violation of state law. Moreover, a memo from a hospital administrator indicated the nonprofit, Disability Rights North Carolina, assisted patients in completing absentee ballots, which may have been illegal as well. Records from the Wayne County Board of Elections obtained by Carolina Journal show 34 persons using Cherry Hospital’s address — 201 Stevens Mill Road in Goldsboro — are registered to vote.

The group home on the grounds of the retirement community I work at - has Democrat operatives swarming all over it. They sign up the mentally challenged and then explain to them what a great guy Obama is. Then, drive them to the polls.

Dig a little deeper...I'll guarantee you find Democrats involved. But, in all fairness, I'm sure they just wanted to make sure that these people weren't "disenfranchised"...even though they probably don't even know what planet they're on.

What's the dif? You'd have to be mentally ill to vote for Zippy in the first place.

Reply 7 - Posted by: Grace Veritas, 10/26/2012 8:35:43 AM     (No. 8963386)

It's what they call "ground game."

It's why we have to win by 5 to win by 1.

It's also the lay of the land, just a condition we have to deal with. You know we couldn't get our people to engage in this kind of stuff, and even if we could there would be a whistle-blower in the ranks somewhere.

So, calling attention to it may help suppress it a little, may subdue the enthusiasm of some soft dem voters, may energize our base a little more, but the main thing is we just have to win by enough to overcome the effect of cheating, just like we have to run against both the other candidate and the old media.

This is done in every nursing home with absentee ballots by ACORN-type Dem groups. The "Memory" Alzheimer units included, of course.

How low can Democrats stoop? All the way to the basement of the Outhouse. They have no shame...NONE. Why don't these hospitals/homes run these people off, especially if it is illegal? Maybe these places should be investigated.

It's the same at a Girard Ave facility where elderly are wheeled in to sign the outer 'voter's affidavit' of sealed ballots they hadn't applied for or completed........

.........or the Pa state run veterans home where people 'vote' who hadn't applied or signed anything.

The director of state facilities for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled said his department will continue to offer annual voter registration and voting assistance for patients and residents. He also said that while efforts are made to notify patients’ guardians about voting activities, a patient’s right to vote takes priority over any objections from guardians. [SNIP] The laws and rules governing voting by mentally challenged individuals remain murky, and it’s unclear whether state employees who assisted disabled patients and residents to cast ballots at early voting sites were complying with the law.

Recent stepped-up voter registration efforts at state mental hospitals and facilities for the developmentally disabled resulted in the registration of Wendell Justin Williamson, who in 1995 killed two people in Chapel Hill and was judged not guilty by reason of insanity. Election records show Williamson, a patient at Central Regional Hospital in Butner, was registered on Sept. 13 as an unaffiliated voter. He cast an absentee ballot that was accepted Oct. 15 by the Granville County Board of Elections.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
