| Washington - Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the U.S. military did not intervene during the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya last month because it was over before the U.S. has sufficient information on which to act. At a news conference, Panetta lamented second-guessing about how the U.S. handled the attack in Benghazi on Sept. 11. He said the U.S. military was prepared to respond but did not do so because it lacked what he called "real-time information." "You don't deploy forces into harm's way without knowing what's going on," Panetta said. "(We) felt we could not put forces

Comments: Panetta is just one more criminal liar in the 0bama regime. You could put a stack of evidence in front of him from our intel agencies stating what we knew and he'd deny that we knew any of it. In fact, that's pretty much what he's done here.

Leon, At the end of the day you left a bunch of unarmed people to die. Now, who was the idiot that said they could not have loaded weapons? A marine on a roof with an automatic rifle and plenty of ammunition could have made a very big difference.

Panetta does not have a background necessary for the job he is in. He has always been a political wonk, no real work history. On top of that, he is a dove, definitely not qualified to be Secretary of Defense.

HEY! Give Panetta a break! It was dangerous in Benghazi and he knew it. They had information the embassy was under attack and Americans, including the U.S. ambassador, were being killed. There was confusion, gunfire, rockets, mortars and blazing fires set by armed attackers. You think he was going to send U.S. military personnel into a risky situation like that, before he was sure exactly what was happening? That would have been irresponsible. Someone could have gotten hurt or even killed by such preciptate action. Panetta, the consummate professional, knew he should wait until all the facts were in before acting. Events have proved him right. For as Hillary Clinton keeps reminding us, all of the facts are STILL not in. It is STILL too soon to be sure what really happened, when, how, why, etc. For weeks afterward it was too dangerous for the FBI to investigate, so journalists and others had to sift through the wreckage of the embassy and retrieve whatever papers and classified information they could find. I say three cheers for Secretary Panetta for not putting our military forces in harm's way without knowing for sure what they might be getting into.

Simply disgraceful Panetta. Can you imagine your last 7 or 8 hours on this earth, 7 or 8 hours of your life prior to your death, being smoked out, shot at, tortured, all the while knowing that because you are a United States citizen working on behalf of the US Government in a war zone, that US forces are on their way to rescue you. Are you imagining that Panetta? Your body is torn up, the pain is unbearable, but you have that knowledge that hope that help is on its way. But you can see both sides of it can't you? Aided by drones you are able to watch the horror from the comfort of the White House knowing full well those Americans are going to die. What was going through your mind? You weren't raising a finger to help them. What did you think was going to happen to them, those Americans working for the United States in a war zone? Those Americans who you knew had the hope of being rescued until seconds before their death. Really Mr. Panetta. Tell us.

What is unclear about 'we are being attacked'? Does it really matter who is doing the attacking? The call to send in security should have been made the instant it became apparent that something was going on. Waiting until you have all the facts while your people are in danger before doing anything is criminal. I don't suggest that they needed to mobilize a division, or send in bombers, but we had troops relatively close. How hard would it have been to send in a squad or two just to check on the safety of our ambassador?

Obama has lied about Benghazi for 5 weeks and now as the truth trickles out, Obama has his cabinet stepping in front of him to take the heat.
Panetta is a political hack, but I thought he was smarter than this.
Our Ambassador had his security team taken away, and then State, the Pentagon and 'intelligence', whatever that means, watched as he was killed. Obama hurried off to his fund-raiser or whatever and then started lying the next day. This is appalling on many levels.

I have done it again, and hereby make amends again.
#13 was intended as biting, in fact bitter sarcasm.
It is the height of irresponsible and mendacious folly for Panetta to claim that an ongoing assault on a U.S. embassy was too confusing or dangerous for the deployment of a trained rapid reaction force. Everything available to the public strongly suggests there was incompetence or negligence of near criminal magnitude behind the decision not to intervene to protect the ambassador and his staff. What we know at present gives reason to believe their lives could have been saved by a swift reaction using readily available resources. The burden is on Panetta and others in the administration to explain the fatal delay. It is sheer nonsense to claim that not enough was known or that it was too dangerous to react. Everyone suspects, probably correctly, that political considerations intervened to prevent the military rescue operation that could and should have been launched and which, on the basis of available information, stood at least some chance of saving the lives of the Americans who were subsequently murdered.

Listen UP! JUST BECAUSE you come under mortar fire, become sudden victims of terrorism of any kind or whatever, neither Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, or Leon Panetta will lift a finger (nevermind scramble a jet--silly you!)to save your rear. Period. It just isn't beneficial to the cause (of Barack Obama).
Thanks for "Taking One For The Team" and have a nice day.

#25, i, too, had to re-read your Post #13, re-checked your "user name" to see if really was you. Second reading made more sense.
The thing is, prior to these murderous attacks on 9/11, there had been numerous attacks on Westerners, and Amb. Stevens et al had been expressing concern and, indeed, fear. Requests for beefed-up security went ignored, as a matter of fact, outright denied.
This is the obscenity of the whole thing. And why all of the other questions are so vitally important and MUST NOT go unanswered.
So we need to call both our Senators, our Congressman (and more, if poss). Call or write local papers andmajor ones. Because they think people don't really care...
Another disgusting fact: because establishment media do not report fully, they've dropped the story, your average uninformed fellow citizen (citizen??) remains in blissful ignorance... stupids.

This was vile and shameless cowardice. The administration is still trying to cover their guilty butts. I detect they are planning to pin their dilatory response on the military, which is one of their favorite fallback positions. I know our military was itching to dive in and help these poor men and they weren't allowed to do it.Going in harm's way is their business. They are always willing to try and save Americans in peril. I'm sick to my stomach with these petty tyrants.

Obama made a political calculation before he went to bed and then to Nevada. A rescue attempt would mean that they would have had to admit it was a terrorist attack and raise questions of why they were not more prepared. Also, there was a possibility that the rescue would go wrong and Obama would be prepared to Jimmy Carter. So they decide to put out the video story for cover. It stinks that Obama is more concerned with his re election then the lives of American workers in a dangerous land. I am really mad.

We can assume that, under the Obama/Clinton/Panetta administration, this is the model for non-response if another consulate or embassy is attacked by terrorists.
Now suppose the Egyptian embassy in Washington or the consulate in New York was attacked by terrorists. Do you really think US authorities would wait seven hours and then do nothing?
The Democrats think they are so much smarter than everyone else. But even a common man can see that these leaders need to be led out of Washington, never to return. Obama and Panetta are the most despicable human beings on this earth today.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

CNN’s Peter Hamby reported that Mitt Romney‘s internal polling showed President Obama leading in Ohio by five percentage points.Per Hamby’s post: The number represented a sharp final bump for Obama in Ohio, a race that had essentially been a tied race through much of the previous week, according to the campaign’s daily tracking. The polling, which also showed a tight race in Pennsylvania, explains why Romney officials decided to send their candidate on last-minute Election Day visits to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. Republican operatives in Virginia, though, predicted a razor-thin victory for their candidate in the state.

Washington - Early returns on Tuesday in what is anticipated to be a dead even presidential election contained no surprises, as CNN projected President Barack Obama will win his home state of Illinois and eight other races while Republican challenger Mitt Romney will win nine states. All races called so far went as expected after the roller-coaster ride of an election campaign that was buffeted by a superstorm and missteps on both sides. Obama and Romney ran dead even in final polls that hinted at a result rivaling some of the closest presidential elections in history, reflecting the deep political

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Twenty-six percent named Sandy as an “important” factor, and 15 percent said it was the “most important” factor in their decision.

Mitt Romney is leading among independents in both Ohio and Virginia, early exit polls show. In Ohio, the former Massachusetts governor takes 56 percent of self-identified independents, compared with 40 percent for President Barack Obama. That’s a huge decrease for Obama from 2008, when the exit polls found him winning independents in Ohio by 12 points, 52 percent to 44 percent for John McCain. The numbers are similar but slightly tighter in Virginia: Romney takes 53 percent of independents there, according to ABC News exit polls, a 12-point lead over Obama. In 2008, Obama won independents in the state by

As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women. Thirty-nine percent of voters so far identified themselves as Democrats, compared to 30 percent calling themselves Republican. Thirty-one percent identified as independent or something else, and Romney has a big edge among this group - 56 percent to 40 percent for Mr. Obama.

As expected, Republican candidate for President, Mitt Romney, won West Virginia’s five electoral votes in Tuesday’s General Election over President Barack Obama. National media outlets called the race in West Virginia shortly after polls closed at 7:30 p.m. President Obama’s fate in West Virginia has never been in question, as he garnered just 60 percent of the democratic vote in the May primary. The other 40 percent of that vote went to Texas federal inmate Keith Judd, who was placed on the ballot in West Virginia. Early exit polls show Election Day voters are slightly more Republican than in 2008 and broadly concerned about the state of the U.S. economy. Six in 10 voters said the economy is their top issue according to the poll, which was released by The Associated Press and conducted on behalf of a consortium of media companies. Less than a quarter of voters said their families were better off than four years ago — a point seized on by many Republicans as the results leaked out.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Beyonce and Jay-Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Cuba this week. The couple, who married on April 4, 2008, took in the sights of Old Havana, visited a school, dined on a rooftop terrace and strolled the fan-filled streets in their island best.(snip).The power couple declined to answer journalists´ questions about their visit to the island nation, but some outlets are reporting that the moguls are there as tourists, though that would be illegal because of the half-century embargo the U.S. has on the Communist country. However, the Miami Herald said Washington has issued special licenses for

The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
