What is our foreign policy?
Tribune Media Services, by Cal Thomas

Original Article

After watching the third presidential debate, are you clear on America's foreign policy? I thought not. That's because there appears to be no singular foreign policy -- rather a series of foreign policies, which must be tailored to fit each nation. I expected Mitt Romney to go after President Obama on his most recent foreign policy failure, the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in which four Americans were killed, including the U.S. ambassador. The president had no explanation as to why there was inadequate security in Benghazi,

The United States hasn't had a strategic foreign policy since the Russians dumped communism for oligarchy. Clinton bombed baby formula factories and Serbs while Bush poured all his chips into Iraq and Afghanistan. Both made friendly with China. Neither had a cohesive policy, unless you think being with us or against us fills that bill. These are the 1930s all over again, with Islamofascism and its growing nuclear armament, territorial stretch and ideology of submission a substitute for fascism, National Socialism and militarism of that era. The major difference is that European allies are broke, toothless, and increasingly pressed by their own domestic Islamofascism, punctuated by terrorism.

The time is ripe for a new American foreign policy after nearly 20 years of drift. It's time for a major revision of our military doctrine and forces, to make them more lethal and put on a weak leash to deal with our enemies, whether traditional countries, or violent international hoodlums given sanctuary or aid by some nation. It does no good to build a modern military and bind it in good intentions and liberal interpretations of international conventions that do not bind our adversaries. Time to lead from the front in our national interests and the interests of liberty.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said his country has "gone nuclear" and ordered officials to "speedily" launch five more reactors. Ahmadinejad was speaking at a ceremony to mark Nuclear Technology Day, as well as launch two uranium mines and a yellow cake production plant in the city of Yazd. The controversial president once again made clear that Iran has every right to pursue its nuclear programme, even though the western powers believe it is a covert mission to produce atomic weapons. In a veiled remark to the US, Ahmadinejad said Iran has already become a "nuclear country"

WASHINGTON — The Navy is going to sea for the first time with a laser attack weapon that has been shown in tests to disable patrol boats and blind or destroy surveillance drones. A prototype shipboard laser will be deployed on a converted amphibious transport and docking ship in the Persian Gulf, where Iranian fast-attack boats have harassed American warships and where the government in Tehran is building remotely piloted aircraft carrying surveillance pods and, someday potentially, rockets. The laser will not be operational until next year, but the announcement on Monday by Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert,

The top Republican in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, is asking the feds to investigate whether a closed campaign meeting was illegally wiretapped by his political opponents. The issue arises after the liberal outlet Mother Jones published "A recording of a private meeting between the Senate GOP leader and campaign aides." In a statement to the press, McConnell´s campaign manager, Jesse Benton, says the feds are getting involved. "Senator McConnell’s campaign is working with the FBI and has notified the local U.S. Attorney in Louisville, per FBI request, about these recordings," says Benton.

I operate by some principals I call cowboy logic. To give you a smattering of the philosophy of cowboy logic in a thumbnail sketch, I usually list these three examples: 1) 2 + 2 is always 4 2) Water never runs uphill 3) If there´s smoke, there´s a fire somewhere. (snip) No matter how much the sycophants in the media and the partial pundits tell us that the debt doesn´t matter and that the economy is making a recovery, 2 + 2 is still 4, and the numbers just don´t add up.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
