| In the battle for control of the U.S. Senate, there are now at least eight critical contests in which polling shows essentially a dead heat, encouraging Republicans’ hopes that they may yet snag the chamber, which very recently seemed beyond their reach. Some of the GOP boost is coming from the top of the ticket in the form of Mitt Romney, whose recent surge in the polls seems to be helping Republican candidates across the country. Democrats still have an edge in their effort to keep control of the Senate, and they may have been helped Tuesday when Republican candidate

As Romney seems to be heading for a strong finish I would say he could drag some Republican Senate candidates limping over the line. Some of them have certainly shot themselves in the foot and need assistance.

We really need Romney in and 0 out. But, it would also be refreshing to have the adults in charge of both sides of Congress, too.
I am thinking that the biggest takeover may be in state and local races. The DNC is and has been broke for most of the year. So, they have not been able to kick down money to demonRATS in most of these races. 0bama has sucked every last dollar from donors, and he does not redistribute 'his' money. We will see on Nov 7, I guess.
The GOP is set to take America back, big time.

#2, I said something similar to what you did at work. One of my colleagues, also a conservative Republican, looked at me and said, "No, AMERICAN people are taking the country back. Our party winning but things are changing. We are going to hold Pubbies' accountable and their feet to the fire this time. Won't be same-old, same-old anymore. Yeah.

David Corn says one good scoop may have led to another. And might even lead to still others, too. The Mother Jones magazine reporter and MSNBC pundit was busy Wednesday handling the fallout from, and some fawning over, his latest revelation about a prominent Republican. Corn unearthed the audiotape of a private meeting in which Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and his aides mocked a would-be political rival, the actress Ashley Judd, and plotted tactics to undermine her. An unidentified source leaked the surreptitious recording of the February meeting to Corn. And just like that

In the first budget of his second term, President Obama set aside the grand ambitions that marked his early days in office and sent Congress a blueprint aimed at achieving a simple goal: ending the long partisan standoff over the national debt. The 10-year budget request Obama unveiled Wednesday calls for nearly $300 billion in new spending on jobs and public works. That includes a landmark $77 billion expansion of preschool education financed by smokers, who would have to pay an extra 94 cents a pack for cigarettes. But barely five months after winning a decisive reelection victory

The woman unceremoniously dubbed Hanoi Jane for her exploits during the Vietnam War isn´t in an apologetic mood regarding her latest movie role. The avowed liberal, who outraged many by visiting the Viet Cong, posing with soldiers and denouning the U.S. on their country´s radio broadcasts, has apologized several times for those posed snapshots. What Fonda won´t do is extend an olive branch to conservatives for being upset with her playing Nancy Reagan in the upcoming film The Butler. Far from it. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"

President Obama kicked off the week in Connecticut with a rallying cry for new gun control measures hand-in-hand with Sandy Hook parents. This afternoon, Obama sat down in the Oval Office with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel — who, with a military, civilian, and contractor work force on edge about their jobs, is tasked with unveiling what could be a punishing presidential budget for the Pentagon tomorrow. Over at the Senate tonight, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed cloture on the motion to proceed to the gun-control package, which means

President Obama will unveil his 2014 spending plan Wednesday, 65 days late and several trillion dollars short, by Republican standards, of effectively reining in the national debt. But the more relevant fact about the White House budget may be the yawning political void into which it is about to fall on Capitol Hill. Administration officials say their plan offers a path to compromise, a centrist course that avoids the extreme spending cuts of the House Republican budget as well as the $1 trillion tax hike endorsed last month by Senate Democrats. The president’s proposal contains the same set of policies

When someone in the Washington area begins to type the president’s last name into the search box of Google’s home page, the top three terms it suggests as the most popular selections are Obama, Obamacare and .?.?. Obama phone. Obama phone? A hotline, maybe, to the Oval Office? Hardly. “Obama phone” is the widely used — and misleading — nickname of a 28-year-old federal program known as Lifeline. It provides discounts, averaging $9.25 a month, on phone service for 13.3 million low-income subscribers. In the 31 / 2 years after false rumors

For a few minutes the other night, the hot topic on CNN was .?.?. bacon. The panel on a new prime-time show called “(Get to) The Point” came out boldly in favor of it. “I had a double order this morning at breakfast,” confessed Jason Taylor, the pro-football-player-turned-“Dancing With the Stars”-contestant-turned-TV-gabber. “But there’s a restaurant in Miami. .?.?. You know, they have a great bar. They don’t serve bar nuts. They have bacon.” “Wow!” responded Margaret Hoover, a fellow panelist. CNN says “(Get to) The Point,” a mixed-gender knockoff of “The View,” is an experimental program that was swiftly canceled

There’s a Texas Republican who vocally stated that he supported background checks to keep guns away from those who shouldn’t have them. And an assault weapons ban. Don’t believe it? Former President George W. Bush said he supported background checks during the 2000 and 2004 presidential debates. Check out the video proof posted by Buzzfeed. “I believe law abiding citizens ought to be able to own a gun,” he said during a 2004 presidential debate against Democratic challenger John Kerry. “I believe in background checks, at gun shows, or anywhere to make sure

A bipartisan group, dubbed the “Gang of Eight,” has been spearheading immigration reform efforts for months, and no legislative text has been presented to date. When it is presented, Democratic leadership in the Senate and Republican leadership in the House are expected to try to rush the bill through to passage. It seems very odd that President Obama has made gun control the signature issue of his second term, so far. He can’t possibly achieve any significant legislation; a few tweaks to the background check system, maybe, but there is no chance of getting any meaningful gun control through the House. The House Democrats aren’t even trying. So it also seems strange that all eyes are on the Senate, where Harry Reid will unveil some sort of gun legislation–no one knows what, exactly–on Thursday. The party’s left-wing base is lining up behind the bill, sight unseen.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller, one of the towering architects of Obamacare, on Tuesday openly criticized program managers for not moving quickly enough to build the system, warning that if it gets off to a bumpy start it will just get worse. Decrying the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as way too complex, he warned the acting Medicare director that Obamacare is "so complicated and if it isn´t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse."

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

As we reported this weekend, liberals have been seething over the inclusion of the chained CPI in Obama´s budget, which they see as a huge betrayal by the Democratic president. The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
