| The first in a slew of Army units designed to expand American military presence across the globe is heading Africa Command, tasked with forging and increasing military cooperation with U.S. allies on the continent, according to Deputy Defense Secretary Ash Carter. The Army's initial regionally aligned brigade assigned to the command will be part of an overarching Army realignment to focus on specific hot spots across the globe, Carter said in a Wednesday speech at the Association of the U.S. Army's annual conference in Washington. Members of the Army's 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division will rotate

Will they be taking bayonets and horses? I mean, they're going to a land that's not quite in the 21st century...

The French got involved in these areas, too. An infamous case developed where a small group was taken hostage, and it ended up that their commander was forced to watch as they were hacked to death when negotiation failed. He was released to tell the tale. And, with political correctness following the troop into Africa, any confrontation will result in a massive America defeat and humiliation, just as in Somalia. I pray for these fine troops being sent to this hell hole assignment.

Africa??? We're cutting the military - cutting the budget - sending American troops to Africa??? Mali was mentioned two or three times during the last debate, and now we're going to be fighting Al Qaeda in Mali.
What fresh hell is this?

President Obama travels to Texas on Thursday for the second time in as many weeks. He will talk about job training and economic opportunity, but he may have a political opportunity on his mind as well. Obama lost Texas by more than 1 million votes last year. But Democrats believe their fortunes in the Lone Star State may soon change, thanks to demographics and a new organizational push. New numbers released by the Census Bureau on Wednesday highlight the rising political power of Latinos in the United States. In the 2012 presidential election, 1.4 million more Latinos voted

Hours after Republican members of Congress sharply questioned Hillary Rodham Clinton and the State Department´s handling of the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, the former secretary of State did not explicitly mention the controversy in an appearance Wednesday night. But she did reference partisan bickering in the nation´s capital as she accepted an award in Beverly Hills. "We truly, still today — despite all of our partisan wrangling, and the gridlock that sometimes seems to take hold — we stand up for the rights and opportunities of all people," Clinton said in a speech that largely focused on

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is demanding details of turmoil at a North Dakota military base after revelations that an unprecedented 17 officers were removed from their duty of standing 24-hour watch over the Air Force´s most powerful nuclear missiles. Hagel reacted after The Associated Press on Wednesday reported the unprecedented sidelining of the officers at Minot Air Force Base, where one of their superiors complained of "such rot" in their unit that even the willful violation of missile safety rules -- including a possible compromise of launch codes -- was tolerated.

HILTON HEAD — Congressman-elect Mark Sanford and former S.C. first lady Jenny Sanford will not appear in Family Court on Thursday after reaching an out-of-court settlement related to trespassing allegations. Mark Sanford, who won Tuesday’s 1st District congressional race, admitted “that he is in contempt for this and previous instances of trespassing upon Plaintiff’s property,” according to court documents filed Wednesday in Charleston. Family Court Judge Jocelyn Cate ordered Sanford to pay $5,000 toward his former wife’s fees and costs associated with the case.

Stephen Colbert was shaken up on Wednesday after South Carolina turned its back on his family. By “South Carolina” he meant its voters, and by “his family” he meant his sister Elizabeth Colbert-Busch — who recently lost a special election for a House seat to former Gov. Mark Sanford. The experience not only upset Colbert… but led him to a revelation about the world of politics. “Mark Sanford beat my sister,” he stated. “And I believe that means Mark Sanford is now my sister.” Right off the bat, Colbert retaliated, declaring that he would

The deputy chief of mission in Benghazi, Gregory Hicks, said in an exchange with Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, during Wednesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing that a State Department attorney was excluded from meetings in Libya with Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, who was in country investigating the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. “I was instructed not to allow the RSO [Regional Security Officer], the acting deputy chief of mission and myself to be personally interviewed by Congressman Chaffetz,” Hicks said. “So, the people at State told you, don’t talk to the guy

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) ripped the media in a speech Tuesday to the Ripon Society, arguing press coverage is partly responsible for the GOP’s messaging woes. Cantor, who has tried to recast the image of the GOP with his Making Life Work agenda, said the party’s economic message is often drowned out by coverage of debt and deficits. “The media has done a great job of sort of shoving us in the corner, because all they say we are concerned with is somehow balancing the budget and cutting spending and taking things away from people,” Cantor said.

For President Obama and Gov. Rick Perry, Thursday morning should feel familiar. In August 2010, Perry greeted Obama as his plane landed at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and gave him a letter urging the president to send more troops to the Texas-Mexico border. Just after noon on Thursday, as Obama steps off Air Force One in Austin, Perry plans to be again waiting on the tarmac. This time, with a message about the economy. “Gov. Perry simply plans to welcome the president to Texas and perhaps encourage him to implement Texas’ successful economic policies nationwide,”

Responding to a federal appeals court mandate, lawyers for former Enron CEO Jeff Skilling and the U.S. Department of Justice Wednesday reached an agreement that could knock a decade off the disgraced CEO’s 24-year sentence. Skilling, 59, was convicted in 2006 of conspiracy, securities fraud, making false statements to auditors and one count of insider trading in connection with the energy company’s 2001 collapse. The new agreement provides for a jail term of 14 to 17 years and a financial penalty of $40 million. He would be credited for time already served. Skilling’s sentencing is set for June 21

WASHINGTON— Partisan politics loomed over a House hearing Wednesday on the deadly September 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, as Republicans and Democrats clashed over the meaning of testimony from three witnesses who had little new to add to the story. The hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee began with the chairman, Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), complaining that the Obama administration and Democrats on the committee have not supported his efforts to get to the truth. The ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), promptly accused the Republican chairman of politicizing

Benghazi hearings open in the House on Wednesday, and the New York Times printed a preview on page 16 of Wednesday´s edition that downplayed any possible revelations about the Obama administration´s reaction to the terrorist attack, which killed ambassador Chris Stevens and three others. Testimony is expected by three State Department officials, led by U.S. diplomat Gregory Hicks, deputy mission chief in Tripoli, who said his pleas for military assistance were overruled. Feeling reader pressure after the Washington Post led its Tuesday´s edition by setting up the House hearings, Public Editor Margaret Sullivan addressed the issue

Republican lawmakers, who have spent months seeking to tie President Obama to last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, are increasingly focusing their probe on a new target: former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton. The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others now centers heavily on the State Department and whether officials there deliberately misled the public about the nature of the assault. Three State Department officials are scheduled to testify before a House committee on Wednesday about the Benghazi attack and its aftermath.

Mayor Mike McGinn is expected to announce Tuesday that they´ll be melted into bricks carrying messages of peace, and the bricks will be placed around the city. The buyback program was announced a month after last December´s elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., by city leaders sick of hearing about gun violence. Former Gov. Mark Sanford completed the trail to political redemption Tuesday with a win over Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch to reclaim his old seat in Congress. Sanford defeated Colbert Busch 54 percent to 45 percent, according to full unofficial results. Turnout was heavier than expected, with about 32 percent of the district’s 455,702 registered voters casting ballots. Sanford, who has never lost an election, returns to the 1st District seat he held for three terms from 1995-2001. It’s a remarkable comeback for a man many pundits had written off after his highly publicized affair with an Argentine

CUMMINGS: And, as I listen to your testimony I could not help but think of something that I said very recently -- two years ago now -- in a eulogy for a relative. I said that death is a part of life, so often we have to find a way to make life a part of death. And, I guess the reason why I´m saying that, going back to something Mr. Nordstrom said, he wanted,

There was tragic incompetence, plainly, in the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attacks, and even possibly some political calculation. It is a record that may well come to haunt Hillary Clinton, the first Secretary of State to lose an ambassador in the field in more than three decades, if she runs for president in 2016. But the obvious Republican effort to turn this inquiry into the Democratic (Obama) version of the Iraq intelligence scandal that has tarred the GOP since the George W. Bush years -- led by that least-credible of champions, the almost-always-wrong Darrell Issa --

Ahead of the Benghazi hearings in which three witnesses are set to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade invited Fox News analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters to discuss the issue. Peters was unflinching in his criticism of the “cowardly” Obama administration — and the “establishment media” that aids it. “Is this a national security coverup?” Kilmeade asking, explaining that the witness testimony is expected to say the administration was deceitful in its handling of the situation. “The administration, facing the election, went into panic mode, wanted to contain it,”

British physicist Stephen Hawking has dropped plans to attend a major international conference in Israel in June, citing his belief that he should respect a Palestinian call to boycott contacts with Israeli academics. The University of Cambridge released a statement Wednesday indicating that Hawking had told the Israelis last week that he would not be attending "based on advice from Palestinian academics that he should respect the boycott." University officials said they had "previously understood" that Hawking´s decision was based solely on health concerns — he is 71 and has severe disabilities — but had now been told otherwise by Hawking´s office.

The White House on Wednesday stood by its story that the Obama administration remained unsure exactly who was responsible for the attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi nearly five days after it occurred even though new revelations show Ansar al-Sharia’s direct involvement. Gregory Hicks, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya and a self-described whistleblower, testified before a Congressional committee Wednesday that the body of Ambassador J. Christpher Stevens was missing for hours during the attack after being dragged out of the diplomatic post in Benghazi.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee took to the House floor Monday night and implied that the right to health care and education exists in the Constitution. Ms. Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, also made the case that the moral authority for such services is also derived from the Declaration of Independence. “One might argue that education and health care fall into those provisions of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” she said. Ms. Jackson Lee added, “I think that what should be continuously emphasized is the president’s leadership on one single point: that although health care was not
