'Mom, go upstairs.
We're all liberals.'

Ouch. Monday night was the first time I heard my daughter apply that label to herself, and the word didn't please me. She and six friends/coworkers were about to watch the final Obama-Romney debate on the large-screen TV in our suburban basement. These twenty-something kiddies were enjoying our hospitality because it was free. They're a company (founder, partners, contractors, trainee), part of the start-up trend whereby young persons hang out at coffee shops, staring into laptops, trying to start the next Foursquare or Fab and make a billion dollars. Until that happens, they can't

Liberals change to conservatives once they get their first paycheck and see alllll the taxes that have been removed for 'free' healthcare, 'free' contraception and 'free' green energy. Libs never grow up; us 'Cons' have to grow up in a hurry!

While I feel bad for the author that she had to find out her daughter is an urban lefty, I absolutely would not have put up with what her trendy freindy's did while a guest in her house.

She really should have shamed the four rude little idiots that didn't even have the common courtesy to thank her for the free room and food.

Lie-berals honsetly believe that being rude and hateful towards conservatives (and libertarians) is acceptable since they see conservatives as some sub-human, unelightened species.

I remembered when my niece was about that age. I was stunned listening to her talk but I always expressed my opinion and soon backed her into a corner. Took a few years but she got over being a liberal.

Her children are not liberals. They are just children. Their world is still largely make believe. Their political opinions are worthless and should not cause anyone distress. They have no idea what they are talking about nor, of course, any idea that they have no idea. They are teenaged twenty-somethings with more growing up to do. Life will iron out the wrinkles and rectify the major errors of many of them. One of the more serious fallacies of contemporary popular opinion is that children and young people without any experience of life have something significant to contribute to political discourse. The consequences of such an irrational belief be seen in the Sixties and all that followed.

This article coincided with my wife's comment this morning about the incredible devices we were using, the iPhone and iPad. My reaction was that Apple and other firms had simply created interactive TV, with a resulting decline in our knowledge of grammar, math, history, science, economics and political science. The article explained how the 20 something basement dwellers, aka liberals, were using their devices to tweet disparaging comments about Romney during Monday's debate while Mom tried to explain BO's prevarications.

Barack Obama is a terribly flawed and failed president. Until the debates, he had a strong chance of being reelected without an agenda, without an honest discussion of what has gone wrong in his tenure, and without any coverage of his opaque background, his executive orders, his czars, etc. All while sales of I whatevers soared. We have incredible access to information, yet we are apparently less informed than ever, as Annie Lake's article details. Strange.

Kids like these only know how they ''feel'' when someone like Obama talks. They have no interest in fact checking either. That would be the LAST time my kid dragged her friends into my home. I'd like to see the epilog to this story of what she said to her daughter.

I might have said (but didn't), "Obama's economic policy is the reason you guys don't have a real job!"

That's where the writer loses my respect. It's her house, her money, her hospitality and they're being snarky.

What's the matter with saying, "Okay, pay up. I'm sick of your mooching AND your politics."

Wow. I am so hacked on behalf of this lady!!! Let me have a few minutes with those kids, and their eyebrows will be singed off with the scathing, blistering upbraiding I will give them. THE NERVE. Taking hospitality from someone without showing proper deference and gratitude is tacky, rude, and crass. I hope the author decides to make a rule from now on not to extend her hospitality to such. :stillsteaming:

She is enabling their Liberalism and Obamas Lies.
Also, they will not have a home and children because they will be dependent upon the largess of the government and its unionized thugs.
As to keeping a large house so kids can come home and freeload - No! no!No!
It is not good for either of them. It further infantilizes the children and ensures Obamacare and death panels for the parents.
At a minimum, the "children" should have contributed to food-after all they did have money for beer and wine- and done their laundry before leaving.
It could be worse, her daughter could be marrying one of them!

I recognize their plight, but I DO wish these jackasses who support the left all of the tragedy that leftism brings into their lives and I say to them,"You deserve this." You deserve unemployment, weak currency, uncertainty about your future, and all the other identifying effects that liberalism leaves in its wake.

Where was her husband in all this? Why would he allow his daughter and her friends to behave so badly in his house, in front of his wife? And why bother going to church if you don't stand up for anything preached there? This is part of the reason we never finished our basement. Our kids are free to have their friends over but they are all part of the family when they're here. Funny thing is, they seem to really enjoy it.

The couple should sell their large house instead of awaiting an almost certain return to the nest by the daughter and move into a small, low-maintenance condo with the only spare bedroom turned into an office and/or sewing room.

We have turned our extra rooms into a man cave, a sewing/crafts room and a cats' room. We have no sofa-bed, only a single air-bed which would have to go on the floor.

ANY subject you choose will quickly expose the bottom line of beliefs. Abortion to remedy irresponsible sex, Drugs to 'enhance' their lifestyle, etc.

On the other hand with a liberal it is easy to overestimate their knowledge base. I was arguing with a friend about BHO's economic policies and he had no idea who Ben Bernanke was. After he blamed BHO's problems on Republican opposition, I asked him to name ONE thing BHO didn't get that he wanted. End of discussion.

Yes it is. It is also indicative of what a sap this woman is.

Inviting her daughter to stay is one thing but inviting the other adults is another. She should have kicked them out the second they tried to treat her like a second class citizen in her own home.

This article makes me proud of my two sons (17 & 14) who openly mocked Obama during the second debate. The younger one wanted me to turn on the 3rd debate after the Cardinals fell behind by so much so early just so he could heckle Obama again. My oldest son would listen to me rant about politics and Leftists when he was younger, and he just admitted to me recently that he went out on his own and looked up what I was saying to see why I had my opinions (fact-checking me). "Dad is a smart guy, so he has to have a good reason why he says what he says, so let's find out why.".... his words describing his thought process. Now he's just as conservative, if not more, than me.

I am going to give you a lesson...make everyone of them turn over what ever money they have to her...then take 60% or so for their "free internet\food\tv", take another 30% to pay for her political support\her contributions...then as she "gave back" the pittance that the government felt they could keep pick out a couple of them who are the snarkiest and point out honestly it wasn't really their money and she didn't think they needed any of the money..."they didn't build that" plus load it up on a couple of the others who contributed the least and make a point that they would like her so much more and keep voting for her as long as she took their money and it to them.

Actually, she is backing off. Here’s the thing about her now-famous MSNBC promo: Either she’s saying something radical or she’s saying something so banal that it’s barely even worth saying. The radical interpretation is that she thinks parents should have less say over how their children are raised and that “communities” should have a larger role. The very, very banal interpretation is that she thinks communities should do more to improve children’s lives and that thinking of them as “our children” might help forge that mentality. The money line in the promo that pointed to the radical interpretation

Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough voiced his agreement with Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, who on Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS questioned those Republicans who are threatening a filibuster on pending gun control legislation. Scarborough said such a filibuster would be an example of the GOP putting “rapists’ rights ahead over parents’ rights.” “[I] tell you what, Richard Haass, I saw John McCain there,” Scarborough said. “And I’m hopeful. Because, you know, there are a lot of guys out there in the Senate and they are going out because it’s a free shot.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
