| Moments after he traded barbs with Mitt Romney in the explosive final presidential debate President Obama showed his more tender side and stooped down to shake hands with one of Romney's grandchildren as families converged onstage. Obama and First Lady Michelle took the time to meet the Romney clan on stage and Miles, 4, one of Mitt's youngest grandchildren. The Romneys looked on adoringly as Miles stole the show when he and the president shared a smile and a handshake. Earlier, the candidates' wives took their seats for the debate tonight, each sitting stoically minutes before the final showdown.

Very sweet. Mitt had a number of family members there, who came onstage after the debate. Barack had......Michelle. Family tells.

Ann and Mitt Romney are beautiful people with a wonderful family. Ann will bring class and dignity back into the White House. Michelle can retire to her $35 Million Dollar home that her donors have bought for them in Hawaii.

Ann looked lovely tonight. Her smile just prior to the debate was gracious and lively. I liked her outfit, but I have to ask, why oh why was she wearing the belt at her waist?

Oh, by the way, where were the O's daughters? I didn't see them in any of the pictures accompaning this article.

Follow the link in the sidebar to a series of photos--and a video--of the Romney family at the beach. Mrs. Romney is wearing a lovely, lady-like swimsuit as she spends time with her family members.

Obama has been a bad president, and I expect it to get worse before he's out of office, but when a president has a nice moment with his opponent's grandson, maybe that's a story worth focusing on. Thanks for posting, OP.

Ya know, that must have been the best moment of the debate. The two posers were hugging each other with the 'oh gawd I'm so glad that was over' look on their faces and just then the Romneys mobbed the stage all looking as happy and cheery as they could be...

Thank you #13 and #14. I prefer waists that go in too. I always wear belts. And yes, this is history. I don't think it hurts to keep the child up for one night. My family did everything late. We usually ate dinner late -- often at 9 or 10 PM -- because my mother was very methodical (somewhat OCD). Still, it didn't hurt us. Christmas Eve was celebrated (not Christmas Day) with family and we always stayed up very late regardless of our ages. It didn't kill us and I still have wonderful memeories.

Also read that the fashion "queens" are out with their claws. Anna Wintour, who has fundraisers for O, has encouraged other designers not to feature Ann Romney and to push Michelle whenever she wears one of their clothes. A few fashion critics even go out their way to criticize Ann's clothes. For the beautiful green Oscar la Renta dress that Ann wore for the last debate, one said that she looked very "matrony" and not posh! All the rich Republicans that wear designer clothes should drop the designers who are panning Ann. These fashionisters are vain and clueless.

If ANY Romney had been relating animosity towards Obama, a four y/o would have picked up on it. The lad's obvious delight at meeting the Big Tall Man is shown by his infectious smile. Little kids are fiercely loyal to parents and grandparents.
For #11, what would you have them do with the child, hire a sitter?? His grandfather is the next President, for heaven's sake. He'll remember the moment for the rest of his life and historians of the era will search him out for his impressions of the moment.

Ann Romney looked like she was happy to be there. Michelle Obama looked like she wanted to scream "Get me OUT of here!"
After the debate, Romney looked like he was having fun...Obama looked like he was chewing glass.

Ann and Mitt Romney look comfortable and relaxed because they are moral people and are not threatened by MIchelle and Barack 0bama. Mitt Romney is clearly not threatened by 0bama, and that was evident in all the debates. Romney has a long list of accomplishments, professional and persona. He has lived what most people consider a good and moral life. 0bama can't claim the same, and neither can his consort.

A coral reef in Northern Australia severely damaged by warming seas has managed to completely heal itself in just 12 years, stunned researchers have found. The team found that being left alone to breed on its own was key. The discovery raises hope that other damaged reefs could ´regenerate´. The new research shows that an isolated reef off the northwest coast of Australia that was severely damaged by a period of warming in 1998. It was hit by coral bleaching, caused by higher water temperatures that break down the coral´s symbiotic relationship with algae that provide food for coral growth.

North Korea has loaded two intermediate-range missiles onto mobile launchers and hidden them in an unidentified facility near the east coast, South Korea´s Yonhap news agency has said. As the US and China grow increasingly involved, Kim Jong-un must be brought into line if war is not to be triggered by an act of recklessness. There are two schools of thought about what lies behind North Korea’s increasingly frenzied posturing. The first goes like this: the rhetoric emanating from Pyongyang--including calls to “break the waists of the crazy enemies [and] totally cut their windpipes”--is no worse than their decades-old ritualistic promises to turn South Korea into a “sea of fire”. What we are witnessing, according to this theory, is nothing more than an inexperienced leader

Anyone who remembers the halcyon dreams of the 1990s, of civil society spreading the world over, heralding a new peaceful, global millennium, must marvel at the path the young 21st century has taken. Even those who paid attention to global Jihad before the millennium could not imagine how vulnerable the West would prove in the coming, wildly asymmetrical war. Those who, over the course of the last 13 years, have awakened to the ever-growing danger of Islamism and to the astonishing inability of decent people--Muslims and non-Muslims--to effectively oppose its aggressions, owe themselves a brief lesson in cognitive warfare, and

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
