Romney for president
Houston Chronicle, by Editorial

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 10/21/2012 10:46:06 AM

The Chronicle's backing of Barack Obama in 2008 broke a 44-year string of endorsing Republican candidates for president. Like so many others, we were captivated by the Illinois senator's soaring rhetoric and energized by his promise to move American politics beyond partisan gridlock and into an era of hope and change. It hasn't happened. Four years later, President Obama's deeds have failed to match his words, much less his specific vows to cut the national debt by half and bring the nation's unemployment rate to 6 percent. As Texans, it is a particular vexation

Once every four years, the Chronicle figures out which side their bread is buttered on. This year they did not even need to read the polls.

Agree with #1.

~~We do not believe four more years on the same plodding course toward economic recovery is the best path forward for Texas or the nation. And so we endorse the Republican team, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, in the belief that they can do better by Texas and the nation.~~

The San Antonio Express News, also owned by Hearst, endorsed Dear Leader(US) for four more years, saying in a lot of words basically that he's for fairness.

Of course, the local fishwrap has been endorsing about 80% Democrats; they even endorsed the guy running against Ted Cruz.

Count me as one of those who wasn't "captivated" by Obama's rhetoric back in 2008. Anyone but a half-wit should have recognized it then for the utterly mendacious blather that it so clearly was.

It's good.
But I'm still even more impressed with the Orlando Slantinel having turned its back on Obama. Texas is already a sure thing, whereas here in Florida, where we still struggle with democrat infestations, it may actually help tip the scales... though
that's assuming anyone reads these rags anymore.

It's still possible the collective psychological effects nationwide of the apparent multiple media abandonments of a sinking ship resonate and have some minor impacts in places far and wide, nonetheless.

Never understood the meme of Obama's soaring rhetoric. As I understood it, he gave one highly cliched speech that was taken as soaring. Just goes to show that even a 200 hitter can connect with one once and hit it out of the park. I guess.

Why are so many so putative sophisticates so easily duped. Well, Chronicle? Getting the country out of the mess the Chosen One has left for us will not be easy.

So a major newspaper admits it endorsed a candidate for president based on "promises and soaring rhetoric". Quite a damning admission.

Pretty much channeling what the Luntz focus group participant said; "I bought the BS before, and all Obama is doing now is spewing BS"....something like that.

Except the Chronicle is a hopeless liberal rag and this time it's just trying to shore up it's subscriptions...those that remain.

Can a Texan explain?

Mass psychosis, back in 2008, when otherwise thoughtful(?), intelligent(?), rational(?) people endorsed/voted for a man whose scanty biography revealed nevertheless a far-left, extremely radical voting record (when he voted at all).

These voters normally would take more time and exert more effort to examine the history of, for example, a used car before buying it.

How else other than mental illness, really, can you explain people responding to "How could you vote for BO?" or "Why did you vote for BO?" with, I DON'T KNOW. or I BELIEVE IN HIM. that sort of tripe, foolish blather, and who on further questioning knew and know nothing about the man, let alone his voting record.

The Senate’s effective rejection of President Barack Obama’s post-Newtown gun control bill robs the Democratic Party of an important tool for trying to regain a majority in the House in November 2014. “Are they serious?” a visibly angry Obama demanded of opponents of the Toomey/Manchin Senate bill. In a late-afternoon announcement outside the White House, the president added that if Congress continues not to pass a gun control bill, “the answer will have to come from the voters.” But without a Senate bill, there’s little chance

After all the controversy – it was too much, and too expensive; it would be marred by protests – this morning’s funeral for Lady Thatcher in London was a splendid and memorable affair, which did her memory, and her country, proud. It was a moving, dignified and pitch-perfect occasion: unmistakably British, and a fitting send-off for the country’s greatest post-war prime minister. Big Ben fell silent – for the first time since the funeral of wartime leader Winston Churchill – and tens of thousands of admirers lined the streets to applaud Lady Thatcher’s coffin

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister offered condolences to President Obama Wednesday for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. Prince Saud Al-Faisal made the gesture during a meeting at the White House that included National Security Advisor Tom Donilon. The White House didn’t report Mr. Obama’s response about the Boston tragedy, but said the president asked Mr. Al-Faisal “to convey his best wishes to King Abdullah bin Abd Al-Aziz Al Saud.” Although Saudi Arabia is a longtime ally of the U.S., terrorism is a complicated issue between the two nations

If there was ever a moment that symbolized the difference between the power of public opinion and the strength of a concerted minority, it came Wednesday when the Senate defeated a bipartisan measure to expand background checks on gun purchases. By the time the vote took place, the outcome was expected. Nonetheless, the result was stunning, as was made clear by the angry reaction of President Obama, who had invested so much capital on getting gun legislation passed after the shootings in Newtown, Conn., only to see those efforts crushed

President Obama’s ambitious effort to overhaul the nation’s gun laws in response to December’s school massacre in Connecticut suffered a resounding defeat Wednesday, when every major proposal he championed fell apart on the Senate floor. It was a stunning collapse for gun-control advocates just four months after the deaths of 20 children and six adults in Newtown led the president and many others to believe that the political climate on guns had been altered in their favor. The national drive for laws that might prevent another mass shooting unraveled

Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday’s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon. The anxiety stemming from the attack and the stream of inaccurate news about it is further freighted, moreover, by the FBI’s confirmation that two letters addressed to top political officials — President Obama and Senator Richard Wicker (R., MS) — tested positive for ricin, a deadly poison. President Barack Obama lashed out defiantly and viciously at political opponents who defeated his efforts to expand federal gun regulations today. Standing with families of victims of the Newtown school shooting at the White House, the president claimed that opponents of expanded federal background checks had "no coherent arguments" for their position, and that the "gun lobby" had "willfully lied" in the course of the debate. The deadly bombs that struck the Boston Marathon on Monday were fashioned from large pressure cookers packed with nails and ball bearings and hidden in black bags on the ground, said FBI investigators and a U.S. official briefed on the investigation. The construction of the devices, which killed at least three and injured more than 170, many of them gravely, showed signs of “training or knowledge,” the official said. A task force of federal, state and local law enforcement authorities ramped up a huge investigation Tuesday, but officials said they had no suspects or motive.

The bombs that tore through a crowd of spectators at the Boston Marathon could have cost as little as $100 to build and were made of the most ordinary ingredients — so ordinary, in fact, that investigators could face a gargantuan challenge in attempting to use bomb forensics to find the culprit. A final ingredient — a few handfuls of BBs, nails and pellets

As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.
