In the grand scheme of things George McGovern through his lot in with the Communists...you can say he was a liberal and not a Communist but at the end of the day when push came to shove his rhetoric and his senate votes encouraged and helped the Socialists and Communists in the world...I thank him for his WW II service but not so much the rest of his public service

I detested most of McGovern's politics but I respect his service to the country, especially in the military. He also had the integrity to come out against card check legislation and other thuggery. I don't agree that he was a communist - unfortunately he had the same desperation for peace at ANY price that the end result was often the same.

OTOH the author is a fool. The GI bill isn't nanny state, it's a way to pay back for sacrifices what we can't ever pay back in full.

I confess to voting for him in 1972. I was in college as an undergraduate. I was cured of such nonsense after living in Boston for only a few months. I learned the insanity of liberalism on the streets of Boston.

Uh, you might want to read what the great Stephen E. Ambrose wrote about McGovern. They were close friends, yet Ambrose said, in a roundabout way, McGovern shirked his duty in WWII as a pilot.

Last week one of the radio talking heads outline McGovern's voting record.

TEA party members most likely served in the military and definitely like the GI bill. It was EARNED. There are many things which were promised young men/women when they joined the military.

By the time they retired those benefits had disappeared. Ask a vet.

I will agree that mcgovern's wwII service should be honored. But I would remind you what bill clinton's minions did to President George H.W. Bush in 1992.
Bush was a navy pilot at age 18, the youngest in the navy. But Carville and Begala said that he 'jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.' (His aircraft was shot down in the pacific.)
Just how disgusting are carville and begala?
