The Revenge of the Soccer Moms
Atlantic, by Molly Ball

Original Article

CHANTILLY, Virginia -- Remember the War on Women? A few months ago, it seemed like the battle for women's votes was one Democrats had decisively won. While (male) Republican politicians talked about transvaginal ultrasounds, legitimate rape and the like, Democrats laughed all the way to the bank. President Obama's steady double-digit leads with women in poll after poll were a major reason he stayed ahead of Mitt Romney for months on end. Then suddenly, a couple of weeks ago, Obama's edge with women began to melt away. More than any other group, women have accounted for Romney's surge

Comments:
Molly Ball discovers that intelligent women aren't buying the Obama line any longer.

This is the "moron vote" Rush talks about:

Ralls doesn't think about politics much -- she doesn't think it affects her. "Oh, but you know, here's something," she said. Her 23-year-old son was just about to age out of her health insurance when Obama's health-care reform extended the time she could keep him covered, she recalled. "That was a good thing," she said. Plus, her boyfriend says Romney's an idiot, "and he's pretty smart." Ralls is pretty sure she'll vote for Obama.

Multiply this by millions of women and you could get really depressed. Just think; this woman doesn't think politics "affects her", her "pretty smart" boyfriend thinks Romney's an idiot, and she won't kick her 23-year-old leech of a son out of the house to get his own dang insurance.

...and she votes.

I just about choked when I read of the women who, pregnant when her second husband died, with 3 young children, chose abortion. Seriously? Seriously? This last gift your husband left...and you kill it? Even if you didn't feel you could support another mouth to feed, couldn't you have let the child live and placed it for adoption, or turned to extended family? And then she gripes that the other women at the abortion clinic were 'slutty'.

We would like to think that everyone deserves a family filled with love and caring in the face of devestating health issues.

A man who stands by his family, who isn't the dad who does drugs, cheat on his wife, gamble way the rent, or use foul language day in and day out.

A man who tries to build up the world, not tear it down so the 'field will be level'.

Levelled down into the dirt. No thanks.

The woman who worries about her 79 year old mother being subjected to Romney's "voucherization of Medicare" is totally uninformed, yet the writer of this article did not bother to bother to correct the misperception. More propaganda and disinformation getting through to the uninlightened.

Depressing article. Most of these "soccer moms" seem to think about themselves first, not about their children and the fiscal debt they will inherit.

Interesting when you think about it, the top "soccer mom" was the mom who exposed death panels.

I am a "real" soccer mom. At the game yesterday the conversation amongst us moms was about the price of gas and the cost of groceries. Meat has gotten so expensive that several moms admitted that they've been getting by on side dishes and feeding their meat portions to their children. This is not a poor area, but everyone is feeling the pinch. Some of our parents have lost homes to foreclosure, many, (including our family), have been dealing with periodic unemployment, and even more have just cut back in anticipation of more nightmarish scenarios to come. Even on Saturdays the stores are quiet. Yesterday we stopped by a favorite lunch place and were shocked that there wasn't the line we usually encounter. People are hurting and it's one thing Obama can't hide, we are all either hurting, or we have a friend or family member who is.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The owner of an auto body shop near the home of the Boston bombing suspects said the younger brother appeared in his store on Tuesday, nervous and demanding his car immediately. Two weeks ago, said 44-year-old Gilberto Junior, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev had brought in a white Mercedes 1967 station wagon to have the damaged rear bumper repaired. He said it belonged to his girlfriend. That was not unusual: Tsarnaev often brought in cars for wealthy friends from Boston University and MIT, Junior said, and always paid in cash.

The father of a suspected Boston Marathon bomber started to cry when ABC News told him that his son had been captured alive. "Thank God," Anzor Tsarnaev said, speaking in Russian, thanking ABC News for relaying word that his son, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was in custody and alive. Asked what he wanted to tell his son, Anzor Tsarnaev said, "Tell police everything. Everything. Just be honest." Tsarnaev spoke to ABC News on more than one occasion today from his home in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, Russia, as Boston police carried out an intense dragnet for his son.

So once again, no good deed goes unpunished. Uncle Sam lets another bunch of leeching future terrorists into the country who have absolutely no business being here, gives them “asylum,” making them immediately eligible for welfare, and this is the thanks we get? They turn into mass murderers. We bring in thousands of Muslims from a primitive society that has been battling Christians for centuries, and put them into a peaceful Christian society — what could possible go wrong? This is what I was thinking about yesterday, with much of the city under what amounted to martial law.

At least 11 emergency responders are presumed dead after the massive explosion and blaze at the West Fertilizer Co. facility near Waco. Sen. Although information is still too sketchy to draw any comprehensive conclusions (other than that the Boston killings are not, as recently suggested, fall out from sequestration, the NRA, lack of gun control, climate change, right-wing tea-party zealots, etc.), there emerges a familiar profile to the suspects that we have seen before. In articles in 2002 and 2007, I touched on the dangers of isolated Islamic-driven terrorists without direct connections to organized terrorist networks, calling it a sort of “al-Qaedism.” In other word, single and usually young American resident males, often originating from the Muslim world

When vocal teacher Bill Schuman works with an aspiring opera singer, he invokes the past, present and future with equal importance. He looks to the past for examples: "Study the great tenors," he advises one student, just before issuing a command for the present. "Pick up your palate! Don´t be lazy!" He also has a way of foreseeing what´s to come: "You will be Tosca," he promises a young soprano. Since 1989, Mr. Schuman, age 54, has been a voice instructor at Philadelphia´s Academy of Vocal Arts, a four-year conservatory program devoted to training young opera singers.

When David Sirota hoped the person or people responsible for bombing the Boston Marathon would be a “white American”, I asked, “Can’t a terrorist be both white & Muslim?” Yes, Mr. Sirota, there are white, Muslim terrorists. Granted, I was thinking more along the lines of a convert to Islam like John Walker Lindh. Nevertheless, Chechens are both Caucasian and Muslim. While it’s certainly possible for non-Muslims to commit terrorism, we do ourselves a disservice by being afraid to cause offense and refuse to consider the possibility that Muslims are responsible for these acts of evil. Things are looking up for Republicans. President Obama’s agenda is collapsing before our eyes. Obama is pointing to the 2014 midterm elections to capture the House and revive his presidency. “My job is not simply to occupy the Oval Office,” he said at a San Francisco fundraiser. “My job is to make sure we move the country forward, and I think we can best do that if Nancy Pelosi is speaker of the House once again.” Obama said Pelosi is “thought ful” and “visionary” and “never lets ideology cloud her judgment.”

The Tsarnaev brothers were ethnic Chechens whose family fled the breakaway republic in the remote Caucasus mountains where insurgents fought two bloody wars with Russia at the cost of more than 100,000 lives. Even after the worst of the fighting was over, Chechnya became a training ground for terrorists who have carried out attacks that have killed hundreds of civilians. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the FBI’s “Suspect Number 2” in Monday’s bombing, followed two Internet sites that advocated independence for Chechnya, whose heavily Muslim population of more than 1 million suffered badly during Soviet rule.

Several years ago, Jennifer Senior wrote a fascinating, agonized essay for New York Magazine on abortion and the challenges facing the pro-choice cause. Of the piece’s many memorable passages, this stretch in particular stood out: … if you want to hear honest talk about the realities of abortion, go speak with those abortion counselors and providers. Even the most radically pro-choice will tell you that the political discourse they hear about the subject, with its easy dichotomies and bumper-sticker boilerplate, has little correspondence to the messy, intricate stories of her patients.

We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.
