The New York Times reports (and the White House denies) that “The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran.” Two of the three assertions in that lead paragraph are demonstrably false. One-on-one negotiations have been going on for years (most recently, according to my friend “Reza Kahlili,” in Doha, where, he was told, Valerie Jarrett and other American officials recently traveled for the latest talks).
I think Obama has been talking to Iran directly for along time, forget the back channel crap. There's too many Islamists counting on Iran to destroy Israel and a deal with the west would look extremely bad on the mullahs. I mean that wouldn't stop Obama from striking a phoney deal for the election but he's still in their corner in a macro sense.
Allowing inspectors in would be a fool's mission but it would be a likely part of a deal.
Seriously, is there anyone stupid enough to believe there could be genuine peace talks with the Iranians two weeks before an election that looks like it's going to take out their #1 protector? I mean come onnnnn.
If he can only get re-elected, the iranians will have the time they need to finish making the bomb and sending at least one or two to Israel. Don't even want to think where the rest will be headed. I wonder. When history is written, will obama be portrayed as the chamberlain of the USA or as the puppet for our enemies?
I can't imagine Valerie leaving Obama's side long enough to go to talks. She goes everywhere with him to make sure he follows the Party line. Afterall, he did sign on the dotted line and joined The New Party,(The Communist Party of Chicago) when he was a Community Organizer. Her father in law was a member of the Chicago Communist Party. Why didn't she have to get National Security clearance in order to see all of our National secrets. I don't like this picture. She answers to no one. He answers to her.
Well, well, well. Real information from someone who knows, who actually participated in talks with Iran. In the mid-1980s.
As Ledeen says, this talk about an agreement has been going on for some time. Condi Rice and Nicholas Burns were left holding the bag in New York , waiting for "the plane to leave Tehran" to bring the Iranians to the U.N. for the signing ceremony. Never happened. In 2006.
So Obie and his minions try a last ditch pre-election attempt to bamboozle us with this nothingburger "leak" on secret negotiations involving Iranian-American Valerie Jarrett.
As Ledeen opines,
So what is happening? The most likely explanation is that Obama is still desperately seeking his grand bargain, the one that would validate his (and the Nobel Committee’s) claim to be a talented peace maker. That deal is not available, because the Iranians don’t want it. But he wants something to show for his efforts, so he settled for a big nothingburger: an agreement to talk some more.
ValJarJarBinks is probably letting Ahmadinejad know that after the election Hussein will have more flexibility. If anyone close to Mitt is reading this, please implore him to ask Hussein (in tomorrow's foreign policy debate) what he meant when he whispered to Medvedev (and it was picked up on an open mic) to assure Putin that "after the election I will have more flexibility". That is absolutely one of the scariest, most traitorous things I have ever heard, and nobody is talking about it.
I find it "very" disturbing that valerie jarret the iranian is neogotiating for the U. S. of A.
First she was NEVER assigned the job by the Senate and the House -- AND -- she's a woman. The islamist don't like to deal with women. Okay for "qualified women -- like Condi" -- but this one was never confirmed as our representative. Of course hillary's in Peru working on woman's issues -- so I guess they had to send someone....
Talk about pathetic....no wonder the islamist fools are moving on US -- they see US as WEAK...
Communists Vernon Jarrett, Val's father-in-law, Robert Talyor, Val's grampa, and Frank Marshall Davis; Google 'em up and you've got the lover of the United States, Valerie Jarrett. Unelected, appointed by His High Holy Worshipness to represent the United States of America to Iran. 'Nuff said.

Fwd: Team Romney Subj: Debate Prep !! Top Priority !!
I trust Team R already know about this but, Joe didn't seem to know there had been congressional testimony under oath the day before his big debate performance, which completely contradicted his claims during his debate, so....
Really makes you wonder what plans he has with Vladimir. Is ValJar already on that one too?!
Even if the mullahs agree to stop their enrichment program, WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE THEM? Liars lie. Demons deceive. And muslim orcs rampage and destroy when ordered.
No wonder Val Jar has 6 Secret Service officers - protecting her from the Mossad? Just curious!!

There's nothing more the lunatics in Iran would like better than to have the little man child re-elected. He wants to decimate our military, lead from behind, and put the US on equal footing with all the murderous regimes around the world, it's only "fair". The "professor" doesn't believe in peace through strength, because the chalkboard in the faculty lounge point towards peace through platitudes.
Nothing new to selling out America to stay in office. All the freedoms our service people from 1776 on have fought and died for are being offered up by the dirtiest most unAmerican administration in history.
My vote on the "October Surprise" will be the lame duck Contressional session after the elections to push through ratification of treaties Obama HAS ALREADY SIGNED with the UN (Agenda 21) for gun control, energy control, control of the internet, control of our waterways... essentially turning over American sovereignty to the UN.
The House can't vote on ratification of treaties; the lame duck Senate can approve it and it will be law.
From Obama's point of view....if he loses the election, he can still tell himself he achieved his essential goal. It would be the perfect "in your face" parting gesture.
The only counter I can see to it is a House pledge to impeach each and every Senator who votes for any of the sections of Agenda 21.
But then, he might not lose despite the polls... The UN has offered to oversee and ratify the vote in each of the States. The Republican governors will refuse, of course...but are there enough small states with Democrat governors to overcome the popular vote in the Electoral College?
Brilliant strategy by VJ - having spent the past 4 years telling everyone that Iran isn't a problem she now thinks the rumor of "talks" will turn the tide of the election.
1. Those who are going to vote for Obama don't care because they don't think it is a problem - maybe I should have stopped after "think". 2. Those who understand the problem know that whatever the Obama administration will do as far as national security will be to diminish it not strengthen it. These individuals are not voting for Obama come hades or high water. 3. The undecideds who don't think and don't know who to vote for who will break Obama's way just because of "talks" with Iran can be counted on one hand.
Look for Obama to make some sort of announcement during the debate thinking that he will knock Romney off his stride and make news. But whatever Obama says, does not make it true, substantial, or in the long-term interests of the USA. Obama has been claiming that he has wanted to talk with the Iranians since before he was elected. The Iranians have one mission in mind, obtain a nuclear weapon.
The NY sting of the bombers by the FBI with an after thought to say he wanted to "hit" obama first didn't bring any excitement and very little news coverage, the Lybia incident has backfired (and read Larry Sinclair's article) so now we are going to hear he has signed an agreement with Iran for them to stop nuclear enrichment by lifting sanctions (temporarily) to just cover the election time, the polls showing him in a huge lead--pollsters want to save face by actually trying to get closer to what the outcome will be, his entire administration lying every time they flap their jaws, the journ-O-Liars slightly turning on him-----nothing is giving him the desired effects of being in the lead to be re-elected. Even Crowley's help with the last debate was seen as a smoke screen. What's next? Almost forgot, bomb threat at Sidwell School didn't get much life span in media coverage.
The Iranians are sure to notice that the Jarrett thing is a woman.....and the muhammedans and their respect for the fair sex are well known.... this is all traitorous garbage and these imposters should be jailed for treason
Obama sends a Chicago slum lord to negotiate with Iran ?? Apparently Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan were unavailable. May 2008 Obama dismissed Iran as a threat to the US because it's a " tiny " country. "I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us.." July 2007 "I would [be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of my administration ... with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea ". Hopefully , it's finally dawning on some voters that Obama doesn't know what the heck he's talking about . On anything . Since 2007 ,Obama has been all over the place on Iran ( and every other subject ) -taking one position and they contradicting it the next day and then taking another foolish position and then contradicting that and on and on and on. The mother of all flip floppers and failures is Barack Obama.
Who is that ghostly figure still hovering in the shadows at the 0bama's WH but, ''Valarie Jarret?!!'' ...Trick or treat time? But I digress.
Parse, ''negotiations.'' Considering the history of recent, 'negotiations,' in that region, it does not mean much. ...Certainly not any results regarding demonstrable respect for life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, ''peace and tranquility,'' respect for private property for each individual, much less any, ''good will to all,'' eh?

Obama's open-mike statement to Medvedev was pure treason. The only thing that has kept the Cold War cold since 1945 was our offensive and defensive missile superiority. Ronald Reagan figured out when to play the final ace and the house of Russia came tumbling down. Russia's greatest goal concerning the U.S. is to eliminate that missile superiority and Obama means to give it to them. There is no quid pro quo for us, he is simply surrendering to Marxism.
As for Iran, they are nothing but an annoying flea without nuclear weapons capability. That is the only thing they have to negotiate with and they are allegedly negotiating with an Iranian who has a tight hold on Obama's short hairs. We simply can not let that happen.
An anonymous Republican senator has delayed a vote on legislation that would require police to obtain a warrant before accessing emails and other online messages. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) pushed for a vote on the bill before Congress left for its August recess. He secured unanimous support from Democrats, but at least one Republican objected to the bill, according to a Democratic Senate aide. Leahy had hoped to fast-track the bill to passage with unanimous support, but the opposition means a vote will be delayed until at least September.
Ever since Socrates’ wife was painted as a jealous shrew by one of his pupils, women have had it tough in philosophy. Thinkers from Aristotle to Kant questioned whether women were fully capable of reason. (Snip)But the revelation this summer that Colin McGinn, a star philosopher at the University of Miami, had agreed to leave his tenured post after allegations of sexual harassment brought by a graduate student, has put an unusually famous name to the problem, exposing the field to what some see as a healthy dose of sunlight.
Less than a year after announcing that it would cease publishing in print, the remaining assets of Newsweek have been sold to IBT Media, publishers of the International Business Times. The deal, announced Saturday afternoon, brings an end to the joint venture media mogul Barry Diller established in 2010 for Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Diller, a longtime movie and TV executive whose IAC owns a portfolio of assets ranging from dating site Match.com and search engine Ask to production companies College Humor and Electus, has regretted buying Newsweek pretty much since day one. In April, he told Bloomberg
Alex Rodriguez just talked himself out of a possible settlement with Major League Baseball and faces a 214-game suspension to be handed down on Monday, the Daily News has learned. Following Rodriguez’s explosive comments after Friday night’s minor league rehab game in Trenton in which Rodriguez basically said Major League Baseball and the Yankees were conspiring to keep him off the field in order to void his contract, MLB officials have rejected Rodriguez’s request to negotiate a suspension settlement, a baseball source familiar with the situation said. According to the source, Players Association chief Michael Weiner reached out to MLB
I tend to make light of the language police when it comes to the Saturday Night Card Game, but it’s actually a very serious subject. The incessant attempt to turn race-neutral phrases into racial testing grounds is part of a larger political war in which race agitators seek to turn everything into a discussion of race all the time in every sphere of life. Here are some prior examples we have considered: Black List, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Rejigger, Providence Plantations, Black Friday, Gobbledygook, Illegal Immigrant, Undocumented Immigrant, Master Bedroom, and even the use of white copy paper.
It appears that the police now have a device that can read license plates and check if a car is unregistered, uninsured or stolen. We already know that the National Security Agency can dip into your Facebook page and Google searches. And it seems that almost every store we go into these days wants your home phone number and ZIP code as part of any transaction. So when Edward Snowden -- now cooling his heels in Russia -- revealed the extent to which the NSA is spying on Americans, collecting data
One thing that has become clear as the Edward Snowden saga unfolds is that WikiLeaks and Russia have both been integral to the NSA leaker´s arrival and extended stay in Moscow. The Kremlin and the renegade publisher haven´t overtly coordinated moves in regards to Snowden, but they certainly haven´t been working against each other. And the two had a shared history before Snowden arrived in Moscow. Here are a few notable details from a tentative timeline of Edward Snowden and his associates created by former senior U.S. intelligence analyst Joshua Foust:
The government’s ability to track 316 million Americans without a warrant rests on a flimsy premise upheld Tuesday by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The judges, intentionally or not, move us into the shadow of the total surveillance society. Throughout history, totalitarian regimes dreamed of tracking at will the exact whereabouts of enemies of the state. This power is now reality; police officers and bureaucrats can tap into the GPS-style location technology built into every cellphone, with no warrant required. Judges and lawyers say it’s OK to dispense with the inconvenience of warrants if a third party,
There’s a sucker born every minute. That’s the first thought that comes to mind about John Henry’s purchase of The Boston Globe and other assorted media dinosaurs for $70 million in cash. In other words, as someone noted yesterday, John Henry’s 164-foot yacht may well be worth more than his crumbling newspaper empire. Another old saying seems equally appropriate for the occasion: A fool and his money are soon parted. Do the math. The New York Times spent a combined ?$1.4 billion to buy the Globe and the Worcester Telegram, and now Pinch Sulzberger walks away with a nickel
Ten days ago, as John McCormack noted, in the midst of a speech about the economy President Obama mentioned some other issues: "Of course, we’ll keep pressing on other key priorities, like reducing gun violence, rebalancing our fight against al Qaeda, combating climate change, and standing up for civil rights and women’s rights." McCormack asked, "what does ´rebalancing our fight against al Qaeda´ mean? It´s a phrase Obama hasn´t used before." The administration hasn´t answered McCormack´s question. In light of al Qaeda´s resurgence in Iraq, our withdrawal from Afghanistan, our fecklessness with respect to Syria, Libya, and elsewhere--and now the travel alert
Earlier this week I wrote about California’s new regionalist initiative, Plan Bay Area, as a harbinger of President Obama’s attempt to densify America’s cities and undercut the political and economic independence of the suburbs. If that was the beginning of Obama’s second-term assault on the suburbs, the next step is about to be taken in Minnesota. Katherine Kersten writes about “Thrive MSP 2040,” a soon-to-be-released plan that may take regionalism to unheard of levels. At a minimum, when it comes to densification, we’re likely to see the thrust of Plan Bay Area replicated in the Twin Cities.
As the most infamous gangster in the history of Boston stood to address the court, you could have heard the sound of a faucet dripping in Mongolia. Other than a few choice expletives dropped here and there throughout the course of his long federal racketeering trial, mobster James “Whitey” Bulger had yet to be heard from. Now, with the defense about to rest its case and the jury out of the courtroom, Judge Denise Casper asked the defendant if his decision not to take the stand and testify in his defense was being made “voluntarily.”
White House insiders say President Barack Obama is in “a funk” about what he sees as increasing stagnation and failures surrounding his second term and some worry that the President is becoming more distant and distracted. “He’s not the same Obama that came to the Oval Office after the 2008 elections,” a senior White House aided confided to friends in an email recently. “I’m worried.” Chicago Mayor and former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel tells friends that the Presidency has changed his longtime friend Obama and many of those changes are “not good.”
Citing a potential al Qaeda attack, the State Department on Friday issued a worldwide travel alert and warned American citizens that the terrorist group may be plotting a strike in the Middle East, North Africa or elsewhere. “Current information suggests that al Qaeda and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period between now and the end of August,” reads a portion of the alert, which lasts until the end of the month.
Executive Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Mark Glaze gave some ambiguous and potentially dangerous self defense advice Friday on “Hardball.” Glaze, speaking in opposition to “Stand Your Ground” laws, said in a circumstance where someone “comes at you” with an axe handle one should attempt to either “talk,” “fight with your fists,” “run away,” or “deescalate the situation,” but not shoot the attacker: MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an ax handle. CHRIS MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the ax handle armed or not?
[Video] Rapper Jay Z appearing on HBO´s "Real Time" with Bill Maher says that the black community wants upward economic mobility rather than a stronger police presence. In a conversation with former Congressman Barney Frank about police tactics such as stop-and-frisk, Jay Z suggests the stagnant economy and wealth inequality could cause widespread social unrest: "The real problem is there´s no middle class, right? So the gap between the have and have-nots is getting wider and wider... It´s gonna be a problem that no amount of police can solve, because once you have that sort of oppression
In warning about possible al Qaeda attacks against Americans overseas, U.S. officials may have provided too much detail about intercepted chatter and the source of the information, and that may make it more difficult to get such tips next time, former and current intelligence officials say.On Friday, the U.S. State Department issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans, citing an unspecified al Qaeda threat. The bulletin said that the highest threat levels are the Middle East and North Africa, “and possibly occurring in or emanating from the Arab Peninsula.”
About 400 area retail and fast-food workers, together with colleagues nationally, participated in a strike Thursday to demand raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. “If not $15, then something. I mean give us something. I work 36 hours a week and barely make enough to pay my rent, gas bill, light bill. It gets to the point where I barely have enough for lunch sometimes,” said Angel Richardson, 21, who works at McDonald’s. “I’m five months pregnant, what am I going to do in four months? I hope something changes.” The minimum wage is $7.25 nationally and $8.25
You don´t have to be gay or even Russian to feel the wrath of the Russian government´s homophobia. You could go to jail if you are "pro-gay," whatever that means. And that´s under just one of a growing number of hate-infused bills becoming law at a time when, as it happens, Russia is preparing to host the world in the next Winter Olympics. The perverse anti-gay legislation is inflaming an atmosphere of persistent intimidation and at times deadly violence against Russian gays and lesbians. The question now is: What should the rest of the world do?
Washington - President Barack Obama´s top national security advisers met at the White House on Saturday to discuss the potential threat of terrorist attacks that caused Washington and its allies to issue travel warnings and close embassies throughout the Middle East. The United States issued a worldwide travel alert on Friday (Snip) Obama is spending the weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat after playing golf earlier on Saturday. His birthday is Sunday. The White House said Obama had received regular briefings about the potential threat and U.S. preparedness measures all week.
The nation´s most active death penalty state is running out of its execution drug. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said Thursday that its remaining supply of phenobarbital expires in September and that no alternatives have been found. It wasn´t immediately clear whether two executions scheduled for next month would be delayed. The state has already executed 11 death-row inmates this year, and at least seven more have execution dates in coming months. "We will be unable to use our current supply of phenobarbital after it expires," agency spokesman Jason Clark said. "We are exploring all options at this time."
Goose Creek resident Nancy Mace officially announced her campaign to defeat U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham in the 2014 Republican Party primary. The first woman to graduate from the Citadel, Mace is a well-regarded up-and-comer in Palmetto State politics, counting at least one notable South Carolina Tea Party fave as an ally, state Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort). However, if Mace truly hopes to secure the SCGOP nomination, she will need to answer questions about another comrade, Will Folks of FITSNews. As the former co-owner of FITSNews, Mace presided over the South Carolina political gossip site during its most infamous days;
A dart game that used President Obama´s face for target practice at a county fair in New York state is being dismantled today. Fairgoer Abigail Czapsky submitted photos of the booth at Otsego County Fair to HuffPost yesterday, which show President Obama´s face lined up alongside yellow stars in a dart game. According to Czapsky´s Facebook page, following yesterday´s HuffPost story the booth has now taken down the offensive targets. Czapsky says the Otsego County Fair Board called her to apologize about the booth and explain that it was being taken down. Not one individual on the fair board
Some of the earliest clues scientists had that Earth´s climate has changed over time were mismatches between the fossil record and a current ecosystem. How could this palm tree have grown in Wyoming? Why have fossils of the tropical breadfruit tree been found as far north as Greenland? These cold places must have once been warm and wet. The world is not as it has always been. And somehow, despite the tumult, species adapted, moving thousands of miles to habitats where they could survive. Won´t species today just do the same as temperatures rise in the years ahead?
