The Secret Bailout That Saved Romney
Rolling Stone Magazine, by Tim Dickinson

Mitt Romney likes to say he won't "apologize" for his success in business. But what he never says is "thank you" – to the American people – for the federal bailout of Bain & Company that made so much of his outsize wealth possible. According to the candidate's mythology, Romney took leave of his duties at the private equity firm Bain Capital in 1990 and rode in on a white horse to lead a swift restructuring of Bain & Company, preventing the collapse of the consulting firm where his career began. When The Boston Globe reported on the rescue at the time of his Senate run against Ted Kennedy,

Nice try Debbie. This is an old, debunked fairy tale:

I have yet to hear a thank you from all those people standing in grocery lines with food stamps either. At least he turned his business around unlike Solyndra and A123, etc. if he did take money.

Anyone else remember when ''Rolling Stone'' used to be a decent music magazine? I realize that was 35 or 40 years ago.

Whether they are Photoshopping an extra-large ''package'' on Al Bore, fawning over N∅bama, or attacking any Republican that they can, they lost any relevence a long time ago.

I think the timing and the source make this a dubious accusation. Even if there is any validity, to the claim, I would still vote for the guy who actually understands business over the guy with a 4 year record of failure to repair the economy.

A very convoluted story is presented by Rolling Stone, total dollars not even that large to Bain Capital or Mitt Romney. Recent reports show obama cost us $One Billion/year for White House perks. This story about Romney "bailout" money is not even on the radar screen. Yawn.

This is really stale dated. The Article came out in late August but some obscure blog has linked to it. This tactic thus ''de-stale-dates'' anything - including really old stuff like the Gettysburg Address.

In fact the blog posting itself is old judging from the dates of the comments.

...Solyndra 500 million I believe...and this article, old news that it is, is speaking to 10 million and lots of innuendo and conjecture...

...I am sure Mitt was miffed at his former employers and how they took advantage of the company. He was loyal enough though to help it survive and I don't begrudge anyone getting a payday out of it...

...is this the level of October surpises that the left can generate...

Even if true, at least Romney can make things work, unlike Zippy's stellar "investments" in such entities as Solyndra, A123, etc.

It is a welcome revelation to learn that Romney is not the wuss so often depicted and can legitimately use advantages when they are presented. These are the professional qualities we desire in the president rather than the amateur ones we have settled for presently. Thanks Mother Jones.

Trenton — Gov. Chris Christie today signed an executive order to postpone Halloween until Monday because of unsafe conditions throughout New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. “In too many communities in our state, the damage and losses from this storm are still being sorted out, and dangerous conditions abound even as our emergency management and response officials continue their work," Christie said in a statement. The governor has said for a few days he would probably issue the order, even joking that he might reschedule it for Election Day.

That's according to a new study published on Thursday by researchers at Washington University in St. Louis. The project gave free birth control to more than 9,000 local women and girls, many of whom were poor or uninsured, and tracked them for two years. There were 6.3 births per 1,000 teenagers in the study group, compared to the 2010 national rate of 34 per 1,000. As for abortions, there were fewer than eight per 1,000 women in the study, compared with the almost 20 per 1,000 nationally.
Staff has split headline.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....

More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered.
