As the left continues to advocate for further restrictions on the Second Amendment, others are using it to save their lives. This past Wednesday a young 12-year old girl in Bryan County, Oklahoma was able to protect her life when an intruder kicked in her back door and entered her house. Frantically, she called her mother who advised her to grab their household gun, hide in the closet, and call 911. The intruder made his way through the house, and as he was opening the door of the closet, the young girl shot him through the closet door.
Actually, the outrageous goings-on in D.C. more accurately demonstrate the need for 2A, which is about defending our lives, property, wealth, liberty and freedom from any force intent on depriving us of these things.
Good for the 12-year-old girl. She did the right thing.
This young lady is from Oklahoma on the Texas boarder. Kids in those parts know how to safely handle firearms. Her mother gave her good advice...get the gun and hide in the closet. When the perp turned the knob boom! she shoots him through the door. The gun must have been a .357 magnum because the bullet went through the door, the perp and then the wall! Apparently from what can be had from the article the perp was not seriously injured as he was treated in the hospital and released to police custody. Another example of a crime thwarted by someone exercising her God given right to self defense.
If every adult in the theater in Colorado had been carrying do you think more or less than 12 people would have been killed? I think a lot less. As one Lucianne poster once wrote "If more sane people were armed, the crazy people would get off fewer shots." how true! Thank God for our 2nd Amendment right I just wish more citizens would exercise that right.
Thursday night I was staying at the double Tree Motel in Johnson City, TN. When entering the restaurant there I saw the "no guns allowed" sign on the door. I turned around and went somewhere else for dinner. Yes, I was armed. That sign says to me, ok bad guys, come in this place to rob and kill. No one in here can defend themselves.
Liberals and Democrats (is that an oxymoron) don't have IQ's high enough to know that gun laws do not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. They can buy them everywhere outside the law such as illegal gun sellers, out of the trunk of a car, etc.
Can any Liberal who thinks they are intelligent explain how to stop those gun sales? When they solve that problem then talk to me about my legal gun. Until then, SHUT UP!
Meanwhile the "family gun" is tagged and bagged in the evidence locker at the courthouse where it will stay until next August . There is no Question that it was used correctly and probably saved a life. It should have been unloaded and passed back to Dad with a nice "thanks for your help" from the Chief of Police. This family may not ever see their gun again. This is called taking guns off the street.
Here's a link to the article from Durant: http://www.newson6.com/story/19858704/12-year-old-girl-shoots-intruder-during-home-invasion
#7, I wouldn't take bets that the gun has been confiscated. I grew up in that part of the world [Lake Texoma area], and that's a different breed of people down there, different kind of law. Not your typical NYC or LA police force.
Comments after the article are just what I would expect.
Regarding the "family gun" being taken for evidence.
The gun has "fulfilled its destiny." So many guns live out their full existence without ever being called on to save a life or defend a cause.
The family can, and probably will, acquire a new "family gun." Perhaps some of their friends, or even the NRA, can help with the selection and purchase. The girl herself should receive recognition from the police, and range-time for life at a local range.
Too bad she did not have an opportunity to aim for his head or heart. If she had it might ultimately have been harder on her than the way it turned out but society would have certainly been better off.
#8 the law is what we call 'regular law', not the law in DC or NYC. Damn right they'll get their gun back and the local Rotary Club will have the girl and her father to receive an award at their next lunch meeting.
#5, if I had a restaurant, I would have a sign stating "CCW welcome". With regard to the gun being taken as evidence, they will give it back after the case is completely closed out. That is what they normally do.
I doubt seriously the Glock .40 was taken into custody. Both the deputies and the District Attorney praised the young girl for her actions. Hate to think what would have happened if this happened on the Left Coast or in the NE part of the country! Mom would be in jail for letting a minor use a pistol. The young girl would be in custody of the juvenile bureau. The thug would be back on the street with a civil suit against the family.
This is where tort reform is critical. In Texas, the perp can no longer sue the home owner if he is in the act of committing a crime. If the perp is killed while committing a crime, the perp's relatives cannot sue.
Tort reform is an excellent way to keep criminals "in check".
EVERY Democrat, including the 'pro-gun' ones are fine with this girl being harmed. It would empower their 'sensible' gun control laws, which are steps toward their ultimate goal of disarming most American citizens. They all work at it one way or another. The ones that vote against any measure that comes up only do so when it does not matter. They would be happy to see a Supreme Court that simply over rides the constitution and makes every armed citizen a criminal.
Maybe you are the unusual human who would not fight with everything you had to protect your life or your family, but if you aren't, arm yourself while you can and stop voting for the politicians who want you to be disposable.
Said Thomas Jefferson: “The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.” (Snip) For example, TV news programs often illustrate air pollution with a smoke stack emitting water vapor, implying it is pollution when it is anything but. Distortion and deception are accentuated by hyperbole. Television news and documentaries frequently report normal weather as “extreme weather,” implying it is abnormal and caused by human activity.
The question that incessantly tugs at my gut is," when will we say ´enough´?" I have the good fortune to interact with physicians across our nation. (Snip) Nearly everyone echoes the same sentiments. We are downtrodden by the yoke of our loss of social and economic standing combined with an overdose of unnecessary and crippling logistical constraints. Regarding the former, doctors have been subjected to an apparently intentional diminution of stature. Most obviously we are no longer "doctors"; instead, we are a mere segment of the blurred gamut called "healthcare practitioners".
It’s always a little galling (not to mention hilarious) for those of us on the right to reflect that the Democratic Party — the party of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, and family-destroying social programs — the party of Detroit, New Orleans, Newark, and Baltimore — the party that facilitates a black abortion rate that would bring a smile to the face of Planned Parenthood’s genocidally racist founder — has somehow managed to sell itself to African Americans as the friend of black people! But it’s beginning to be equally galling (and equally comic) to reflect that the Democrats have
The death of Colonel George “Bud” Day, who received the Medal of Honor for his heroism as a prisoner of war in communist North Vietnam, is a moment to reflect on what goes into the making of an American hero. (Snip) It was during Korea that he decided to make the Air Force his career. He eventually volunteered to fly in Vietnam, where his detachment used as its call sign the name of Day’s favorite song, “Misty.” He was using the call sign “Misty 01” when, on August 26, 1967, he was shot down over North Vietnam and parachuted
Peter Robinson at Ricochet directs attention to a study by the Heritage Foundation of military enlistment to population ratios by region. It tells us that, generally speaking, folks from Red States are much more inclined to serve in the military than folks from Blue States. (Snip) The Heritage Foundation study also explodes the myth that military service disproportionately attracts men and women from disadvantaged backgrounds. To the contrary, the study shows that U.S. military service disproportionately attracts enlisted personnel and officers who do not come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
America is a poorer place today, a place whose reservoir of valor and determination has been depleted, because George “Bud” Day passed away over the weekend at the age of 88. He was a synecdoche for heroism, a military man’s military man. At Medal of Honor get-togethers, his fellow recipients, all of whom had accomplished legendary feats of bravery of their own, would pay special attention when Bud Day appeared. Bud was at war on behalf of America most of his life and never called a truce even as age and infirmity slowed him down.
Maybe, in looking at the example Detroit has set as the first major American city to file for bankruptcuy, the United States government will finally see more clearly what debt can do when politicians avoid reality. Detroit was once America’s queen city of manufacturing. That began going away decades ago, not because of bad calls by government, but because of changes in the national and international economies. The rich moved to surrounding suburbs, the poor stayed put and politicians had to decide what to do. Some of what they came up with was pretty bad.
There´s a movement among Capitol Hill Republicans to defund Obamacare. With the president´s hugely expensive national health care scheme set to take effect Jan. 1, many of the law´s opponents view this fall´s battles over spending and the debt as the last chance to stop it, specifically by cutting off funds for its implementation. But Republicans will not stop Obamacare. They won´t defund it. Their last chance to put an end to it was the 2012 election. They lost, and the chance is gone.
Naturally, Kate Middleton opted out of Britain’s “world class” National Health Service for the delivery of her baby. According to the Daily Express, a suite at the private Lindo Wing of London’s St. Mary’s hospital costs £6,265 per night — and this “excludes consultants’ fees.” Middleton’s total bill is expected to come to around £12,000 ($18,500). A poll conducted by ICM revealed that “37 per cent of the British public think that she should be having her firstborn on the National Health Service, believing it would send a powerful symbol if the new third in line to the throne
"I think you should check out the APEX program," my high school counselor Mrs. Workman suggested. APEX stood for Area Program Enrichment Exchange, and involved several L.A. area high schools, including Fairfax High. Intended for "advanced" students, the program allowed them to take courses not offered at their home school. In my case, I had exhausted all of the Spanish courses at Crenshaw High, the predominately black inner-city school I attended. But Fairfax, predominately Jewish, had higher-level courses and would accept me.
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, has issued a new report on FGM/C, female genital mutilation/cutting, that raises troubling questions about the practice and the American response to it, particularly in nations such as Egypt. “Girls and women are made to have their external genitalia removed fully or partially– some when they are just infants, others when they hit puberty,” explains UNICEF, “in the name of preserving female honour, chastity, beauty, ensuring their marriageability.” Kheiriya Abidi, a 10-year-old Somali girl is “terrified of the blood, the pain and physical torture she will have to suffer if her genitals are cut.”
ay Z is in for a shock. He, along with Madonna and Stevie Wonder, are boycotting Florida, in protest of the “Stand Your Ground” law that they say allowed the George Zimmerman, who shot Trayvon Martin, to go scot-free. Does he know that 22 other states have similar laws? Will he no longer perform in Pennsylvania, Texas, New Hampshire or Utah? How about Michigan? That’s right, Michigan – home to bankrupt and crime-ridden Detroit – passed a law with bipartisan support in 2006 that permits a person to defend themselves when they “honestly and reasonably” believe that they are threatened.
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. According to a report published Monday in the
America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. (Snip)In our age, Nobel laureate, exempt Al Gore proved a fraud: the feminist who was accused of groping a woman in crazed sex-poodle fashion;
It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. But within a decade, it is expected that the ocean which the village of Kivalina has so relied on will completely destroy it--creating America´s first climate change refugees. Temperatures in the Arctic region of Alaska are warming twice as fast as the rest of the U.S, causing ice to retreat, sea levels to rise and coastal erosion to increase. It is a small Alaskan village whose inhabitants have relied on the sea for countless generations. The 400 indigenous Inuit inhabitants of Kivalina, who live
President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
Arizona Sen. John McCain was the Republican Party´s 2008 presidential nominee and he still wants the keys to the Oval Office. But he is beginning to sound more like a fan of likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. "She´s a rock star," he said in a newly released interview. "She has, maybe not glamour, but certainly the aura of someone widely regarded throughout the world," he added in a reference to her work as secretary of State. McCain, reportedly trying to win back his reputation as a GOP maverick, was asked by the New Republic
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
FORNEY, Texas - George Zimmerman, the former Florida neighborhood watch leader cleared of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was pulled over for speeding in North Texas on Sunday, CBS DFW reports. According to the station, Zimmerman was armed when officers pulled him over on Highway 80 in Forney, east of Dallas. (Snip) The officer reportedly did not recognize Zimmerman, who was driving a Honda pickup. Zimmerman told the officer he was armed and was then told to put the weapon in his glove compartment, according to the station.
Embattled Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office appear to have twice colluded to influence the record before the FEC’s vote in the case of a conservative non-profit organization, according to e-mails unearthed by the House Ways and Means Committee and obtained exclusively by National Review Online. The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group,
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
I never thought the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case deserved nearly the attention it got. But reasonable people can disagree about that. What strikes me as unconscionable, however, is the way the supposedly objective media have not only sensationalized a tragedy but at times appear to deliberately bend the facts to fit a desired story line. Maybe it started with the use of pictures of a younger Martin or with the sudden embrace of the term "white Hispanic" to describe Zimmerman in order to more easily paint him as a racist. NBC News was the most egregious offender
