Candy Crowley Self-Destructs
Newsbusters, by L. Brent Bozell

Original Article

Posted By:mainelysane, 10/19/2012 4:03:04 PM

Just how badly did CNN's Candy Crowley destroy her first (and hopefully last) attempt as a presidential debate moderator? More than 65 million people saw that she is to debate moderation as CNN is to "news." Barack Obama made a fatal mistake when he lied, claiming he'd labeled the Libya attack as an act of terrorism. The look on Romney's face said it all: Mr. President, here comes checkmate.

Comments:
"Proceed, Governor. Proceed." I expected shenanigans from Obama, but I never expected the moderator to join the debate on his side.

FTA:"So let’s say it a little louder: Team Obama engaged in a massive coverup, hiding and denying what it knew about this deadly terrorist attack for weeks. Even Heilemann and Spitzer admit that this scandal should be a “home run” for Romney."

And it is/will be. I'm sure a huge percentage of the viewing audience knew what was going on and found it distasteful. The evidence, Romney keeps climbing in the polls.

CNN failed and a move should be made to allow the consumer of cable and satellite companies to only receive channels they want and pay only for them. I am tired of having to receive and pay for bias news channels that have no creditability. I can't imagine many people paying for this channel or a CNBC if they had the option.

Zippy knows the crowd that will vote for him won't fact check anything.

Candy should be embarrassed. That was one of the worst debates I have ever watched.

I am not the only person who can visualize the secret meeting between Cowley and Obama a day or two before the debate, where she said something like this ...
.... 'When Romney mentions the Lybia attack, you say so-in-so, and then I will back you up with the transcript,' telling Romney he is wrong.'

Obama was not supposed to make it so obvious that he and Crowley were in collusion and that he knew she had the transcript.
.... I wonder what job she was promised.

I'm with #5. There had to be meetings where 0bama and Crowley planned their little tag-team match. Only problem is 0bama didn't play his part very well and gave it away. Crowley looked a little flustered when she was flushing her reputation (such as it is) down the toilet. I expect the same, or worse, from the final debate.

Reply 7 - Posted by: verdantheart, 10/19/2012 4:58:42 PM     (No. 8946462)

As a journalist, I'd like to question Candy Crowley on a few facts. First, why, when the topic was assault weapons, did you demand that Gov. Romney cease his answer that included a mention of Fast and Furious and redirect him to what you called the topic? In the past, candidates had a set amount of time for responses and they could talk about moon colonies if that's how they wanted to use up their time allotment. What's up with that?

Next, if the debate standard is that the candidates have to stay on topic, I believe the foreign policy question was: who denied the security requested in Benghazi prior to Sept. 11? So Ms. Crowley, why allow the answer to be a filibuster about what was said in the Rose Garden? The question the nation is seeking an answer to is: who denied the security request?

An aside: I don't believe Ms. Crowley necessarily had a transcript of the garden remarks. It could have been a list of restaurant recommendations within a 20-mile radius of Hofstra U. It's perception! But in my opinion, Gov. Romney didn't falter. He was not intimidated by the way she managed the dialogue. I think he simply couldn't believe what he was hearing. In any other format, he would have asked for an instant replay. I still give him very high marks for being fast on his feet in debates, which translates in governance to being the alpha male in policy negotiations.

Listening, Ms. Crowley? That means your next assignment is shaping up as follows: find out why female America swoons when Mitt takes to the mike!

I think the president had that move planned. I don't think Candy was in on it and I think Romney like Quayle fell into the trap. When he started yelling for the transcript that was a clue. Complaining about the referee or the moderator is what losers do.

Let's just say that if they wanted a liberal woman moderator they filled the quota by three. Candy is one liberal woman, but she is the size of two regular women so they are "one up" on the woman part.

When you can't win your case honestly, you have a decision to make; either give it up, or throw away all your scruples and start lying about it. Call it a "character cherry", which some lose right away and some manage to hang on to for a lifetime, Crowley, I suspect, being one of the former...

Reply 14 - Posted by: lakerman1, 10/19/2012 5:16:01 PM     (No. 8946509)

I would be willing to bet that Candy will receive an emmy award for her moderator duties, even if they have to create a new, special category. And she might even get a pulitzer prize, if Columbia University can figure out the proper category for her.

And I would remind you people that candy selected the questions/questioners, as well as the order of questions. So the Benghazi question was her fallback choice, if mr barack was not doing well. And he wasn't.

Finally, when will the republicans stop falling for biased moderators in biased locations? I doubt there are many 'undecideds' anywhere in the NYC area.
An I doubt very much that Bob scheiffer will run an honest debate. I don't trust him.

OP, if you didn't expect such behavior, you need to spend more time watching libtards closely. Learn to identify them and learn their modus operandi. There is no act or crime too heinous for a libtard to commit if it advances the cause or their personal power. There is no honor in them. They believe duty, honor or the giving of your name are outmoded concepts.

If you watch the video of that portion of the debate you can see it was a trap, it was clearly setup before hand.

As soon as Romney brought it up, Obama sat calmly, said "proceed Governor" with a big grin on his face and in a tone like a go ahead step in it.

Romney knowing he was right stepped in it.

Then immediately calls for the transcripts which she just happened to have right in front of her and quickly sided with Obama.

Candy Crowley should be blacklisted from media business!

This is stupid. Are we a nation of zombies who can't remember from one month to the next? The relentless message from the White House was that the internet movie sparked a riot. That went on for days and the only question was who made the video and what could be done about it. There was NO mention of a planned, armed, terrorist attack for at least a week. Get the tapes RNC, pull quotes next to a timeline and show the public what a liar the President is.

Consider it an opportunity overlooked. It´s surprising that Jose Pedro Simoes Ferreira´s name didn´t surface during John Kerry´s confirmation hearings for Secretary of State. Mr. Ferreira, 78, is the older brother of Mr. Kerry´s wife, Fox Chapel ketchup heiress Teresa Heinz. Ferreira also is a former Portuguese naval officer linked to leftist Portuguese politics and reportedly backed a 1974 coup against Portuguese Prime Minister Marcello Caetano. According to Allegheny County voter registration records, Ferreira lives in a four-bedroom, 3½ bathroom $628,000 home on Squaw Run Road in Fox Chapel on property adjacent to the sprawling 87-acre Heinz estate.

Just one hour after the seven-hour-long terrorist attacks upon the U.S. consulate in Benghazi began, our commander-in-chief, vice president, secretary of defense and their national security team gathered together in the Oval Office listening to phone calls from American defenders desperately under siege and watching real-time video of developments from a drone circling over the site. Yet they sent no military aid that might have intervened in time to save lives. Why? The attack began on September 11, at about 10:00 p.m. Libyan time (4:00 p.m. in Washington). Candy Crowley’s signature moment as moderator of Tuesday’s rough-and-tumble presidential debate came when she was called upon to referee a dispute over President Barack Obama’s description of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya as an act of terror. When Republican Mitt Romney questioned whether the president had done so, Crowley said, “He did, in fact, sir.”“Can you say that a little louder, Candy?” Obama said, as the debate’s audience broke into applause.
