The Mitt Romney campaign announced Wednesday it has stood up a Military Advisory Council made up of more than 300 retired generals and admirals who are ready to do battle for the Republican nominee. "I am deeply honored to have the support of so many of our most accomplished military leaders," Romney said in a statement. "Together we will restore our military might and ensure that America can defend and protect our interests, our allies, and our people, both at home and abroad. I scanned the whole list, and not one Master Sargent or Chief Petty Officer on the list! Doesn't Romney realize that they are the ones who keep the military running, and are familiar with the immediate needs of the troops? Time to add a few retired enlisted men to his council.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), a leading member of the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” pushing immigration reform, has taken to using the term "undocumented" to describe illegal aliens. The term, which is not always accurate, is common on the left and frequently mocked on the right. During his charm offensive this weekend, in which he appeared on a record seven Sunday news programs to push his forthcoming immigration plan, Rubio called illegal aliens “undocumented” on a number of occasions (emphasis added, below).

The Company You Keep, the all-star drama from director Robert Redford, expands its theatrical run this weekend to include several new cities including Denver. Early reviews say the movie paints its main characters, former Weather Underground-style radicals forced to own up to their violent deeds, in a flattering light. The film´s producers couldn´t anticipate the theatrical expansion would come just days after a pair of domestic bombings in Boston left three dead and scores grievously wounded. Several film critics, who filed their reviews prior to the April 15 terrorist attack at the

President Obama will travel to Boston on Thursday to pay tribute to the families and victims impacted by the bombings in the New England city, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said during a news conference Tuesday. Obama has publicly addressed the incident three times since the explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday. “On Thursday morning, the president will travel to Boston to speak at an interfaith service dedicated to those who were gravely wounded or killed in Monday’s bombing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing Tuesday focused on controversies examined in a March 12, 2013 Office of Inspector General report on the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division Voting Section – including its leadership under Thomas Perez, Obama’s pick to head the Labor Department. Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said while she was pleased Congress had renewed the Voting Rights Act, the hearing into the Voting Section of DOJ’s Civil Rights Division was unnecessary and should have a different title. “I would only offer a caveat and suggest

With the Boston Marathon bombings less than 24 hours old, some on Capitol Hill are beginning to say the attack shows why Congress should’ve stopped automatic spending cuts from taking hold in March. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), speaking to reporters Tuesday morning, said the bombings are “clearly another place where it demonstrates why having the ability to address security concerns is important.” Hoyer added: “I think there are multiple reasons for ensuring that we invest in our security both domestic and international security. In the aftermath of Monday’s horrific events at the Boston Marathon, only one thing is certain — for the next week or so, our television screens will be filled with a creature known as the “terrorism expert.” But what exactly is a “terrorism expert” and what qualifies one to be one? Operational knowledge of an AK-47? Intimate familiarity with the Damascus bazaar? Fluency in Arabic? (But that would be profiling, wouldn’t it?) CNN has its own in-house terrorism expert in Peter Bergen, aka their “national security analyst.” Mr. Bergen popped up on Jake Tapper’s The Lead

The Senate’s Gang of Eight on Tuesday released the details of a broad agreement to overhaul the nation’s immigration laws. The legislation would give provisional legal status to an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants and put them on a pathway to citizenship but only after a list of criteria for securing the U.S.-Mexico border are achieved. It sets goals of persistent surveillance in high-risk areas along the Southern border — sectors where more than 30,000 individuals are apprehended trying to enter the country illegally per year — and a 90-percent effectiveness rate for apprehensions in high-risk sectors.

She accused Bush of being unavailable to the American people for the “first couple weeks” after the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It´s a measure of how little he values the special relationship — and a sign of his own smallness. Back in more gracious times, vice presidents routinely attended funerals of foreign dignitaries. As such, the presence of Vice President Joe Biden — if not Obama himself — would seem fitting for as significant a U.S. ally as the late Prime Minister Thatcher, if not out of warmth of feeling, then simply to represent the U.S.´ gratitude.
