| Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hopes to be “cheering” for the country’s first female president, but said it absolutely will not be her. She said, as she has on numerous occasions, that she has no desire to remain in politics following her retirement this January in an interview with Marie Claire magazine that was published Thursday. “I hope to be around when we finally elect a woman president,” she said. “That would be a great experience for me, to be up there cheering." Clinton, the former first lady and a contender for the 2008 Democratic nomination for president,

The Pentagon revealed late last week it is paying the Chinese $10 million for a one-year lease for a satellite that allows U.S. troops on the African continent to keep in touch and share information, Wired reports. The announcement has U.S. policymakers on edge. Over the last several years, the U.S. government has publicly and loudly expressed its concern that too much sensitive American data passes through Chinese electronics — and that those electronics could be sieves for Beijing’s intelligence services. But the Pentagon says it has no other choice than to use the Chinese satellite.

A developing scandal in the Maryland prison system could pose a major obstacle for Democratic Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley’s presidential ambitions, critics say. Incarcerated members of the Black Guerrilla Family gang, with help from female prison guards, hijacked the Baltimore City Detention Center over the past few years, according to federal charges announced earlier this month. Gang leaders allegedly ran street operations on cell phones smuggled in by the corrections officers, built a robust drug trade behind bars, and impregnated several of the guards. Republicans say this could make for a potent political attack against O’Malley,

The first two questions of the press conference marking President Obama’s first 100 days of his second term Tuesday concerned the administration’s “red line” on Syria and the investigation into the Boston Marathon bombings. But somehow, both questions also hinged on Benghazi. After responding to Fox News’ Ed Henry‘s inquiry about victims of the Benghazi attack who say they are being blocked from testifying about what they went through, the president answered CNN’s Jessica Yellin on claims from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) that “Benghazi and Boston are both examples of the U.S. going backwards on national security.”

Fox News Channel White House Correspondent Ed Henry opened Tuesday’s press conference by asking President Barack Obama questions relating to both the use of chemical weapons in Syria and reports that his administration is blocking survivors of the Benghazi attack from testifying. Obama said that his administration is investigating what happened in Syria to pursue the most effective policy to respond to a chemical weapons attack. On Benghazi, Obama said he was not aware of any efforts to block the testimony of Benghazi survivors. “For several years now, what we’ve been seeing is a

A U.S. lawmaker, expressing concern about the lives of Afghan women when most U.S. troops leave the country in 2014, said those who want to do so should be allowed to come to the United States: "I´m really concerned about these women," Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) told a House Armed Services subcommittee on April 25. "I think everyone on this panel is very concerned about these women...But I think there is something we can do. A proposed law introduced in the California State legislature would allow public school children to use bathrooms designated for members of the opposite sex, if that students´ "gender identity" differed from the students biological sex. Assembly Bill 1266, introduced by Democratic Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who represents a section of the city of San Francisco would: "...require that a pupil be permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil´s record."

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) caught some attention recently, after an appearance at a FreedomWorks rally on Friday — during which he went after the “squishes” in his own party. Morning Joe took Cruz to task on Tuesday, criticizing the senator for his ego as well as “lying about his own party.” Or, more simply put: “He is a jerk.” “They said: ‘Listen, before you did this, the politics of it were great. The Democrats were the bad guys. The Republicans were the good guys. Now we all look like a bunch of squishes.’

The State Department on Monday defended its decision not to have lower-level employees testify before Congress about last year´s attack in Benghazi, Libya. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is pushing ahead with his investigation of the terrorist assault, and has asked for legal protections for lower-level employees who might be called to testify. The State Department pushed back on Monday and said the independent probe into the attack "should be enough" for lawmakers. “We think that we´ve done an independent investigation, that it´s been transparent, thorough, credible, and detailed, and that we´ve shared those

The first in three exclusive reports alleging that that claim is false aired on tonight’s Special Report. Because the special operator in the video above is fearful of reprisal, his identity was concealed. Over five years after Barack Obama won the Iowa caucuses and demolished the notion that white voters wouldn’t support a black presidential candidate, progress for other African-American politicians remains elusive. Even as the country elected and re-elected Obama, making it seem increasingly unremarkable to have a black family in the White House, African-Americans are scarce and bordering on extinct in the U.S. Senate and governorships. The president is indeed exceptional - but in the wrong sense of the phrase as it applies to other black politicians. Consider what has taken place, or not taken place,

Several House Democrats are calling on Congress to recognize that climate change is hurting women more than men, and could even drive poor women to "transactional sex" for survival. The resolution, from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and a dozen other Democrats, says the results of climate change include drought and reduced agricultural output. It says these changes can be particularly harmful for women. "[F]ood insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health,"

“You can live in your little dream world.” That’s Glenn Beck‘s advice for anyone who didn’t see the similarities between the lockdown in Boston earlier this month and Nazi Germany. On his radio show today, Beck reflected on time he spent at Auschwitz and how the police going door to door to search for the Boston Marathon bombing suspect reminded him of how the Nazis searched for Jews during the Holocaust. In the lore of the ancient Romans, Horatius was a soldier who single-handedly fought off an invading army. The Etruscans had attacked in order to impose a despot on Rome and, by holding them back while his comrades destroyed the bridge that was the only practical route to the city, this single warrior saved the free republic. Obamacare is certainly the bridge via which the forces of despotism plan to “fundamentally transform” the United States, and a decorated Iraq veteran named Matt Sissel may be the Horatius who prevents them from crossing.
