| Perhaps it’s because many of us watched the Disney classic Dumbo as a child that we all seem to have a special place in our hearts for elephants, especially baby ones. That’s what makes this latest video from elephant research and conservation project Amboseli Trust for Elephants--which has now started to trend on the internet--so special. An eight-month-old calf became stuck in a shallow well in the parched grounds of Amboseli national park in Kenya--while its increasingly anxious mother, Zombe, looked on, powerless to help. I saw this yesterday... It reaffirmed my love and admiration for the strength, intelligence and loyalty of these majestic creatures. I'm sure that mama elephant will remember the kind humans who rescued her little one and reunited them.

Thank you, OP. That mother was beside herself, caring more than some human mums sometimes. Loved the moment mother and baby came together, the mother with that protective trunk. Baby starts to suckle, mother is content. All's right with the world. Nice job by the rescue folks. Well done.

COLUMBIA—South Carolina’s unemployment agency will lay off 100 employees in June as part of a statewide reorganization that directs anyone seeking jobless benefits to use its upgraded online system, the agency’s interim director announced. John Finan said the Department of Employment and Workforce will eliminate one-on-one help with unemployment claims on June 10, and the number of local offices offering job training and other re-employment services will shrink. Exactly how many of those 56 offices remain open past June will depend on decisions made by the state’s 12 workforce investment boards, he said.

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
