Presidency Within Reach for Romney

| It still goes through Ohio, and the climb remains steep, but the Republican challenger has momentum on his side for the first time in months. If nothing else changes between now and Nov. 6, I see a narrow win for Romney and early retirement for President Barack Obama. If that happens, Obama will have no one to blame but himself. Perhaps he was following the advice of campaign gurus when he played the role of Clint Eastwood's empty chair during the first debate with Romney early this month.
|
Comments: Disagree on the 'Obama blew it in the first debate' theme.. Romney was close in the polls that mattered before the debate, and had just begun their October ad blitz.

Some small but positive anecdotal evidence from, yes, Nassau County...home of the worst debate questioners in the country!
I was driving 1 1/2 miles to CVS yesterday--a trip I make quite frequently, when I counted 6 Romney yard signs. They were not there on Monday.
I believe the R's are coming out...not afraid to vote for a winner anymore. I also believe it's not going to be that close--and that's good for this country.

So first, the author says that whoever wins Ohio will be President (which is not true, there are other paths to the WH for both candidates).
Now that the straw man is propped up, the author can now build an argument on the foundation of grass:
FTA: Obama's team decided early in the campaign to devote a lot of time, effort and money to early voting operations in key states, and it's paying off in Ohio, where Democrats are voting early in much larger numbers than Republicans.
How does he know that Democrats are voting early in much larger numbers than Republicans? This is pure projection, my friends. The liberals are still trying to convince conservatives that the race is lost. Boy, the author is so sophisticated, we rubes just don't understand how we're being manipulated, do we?

#2, I ordered 4 yard signs 2 months ago. Not here yet. Got an e-mail yesterday they are being shipped.
Libs would say R/R is in disarray. I would say that Romney is planning everything to the last minute detail. Yard signs are being shipped now to add to a final 3-week surge. That's my guess.
Gotta admit, Romney is organized in the debates. He's taking obama apart, piece by piece.

#5: I live and vote in Ohio, and we are not required to have any party affiliation/registration, so i'm not sure how they know the Dems are voting. i think you CAN register as one party or another, but it's not required. I'm registered "independent" but always vote R. Also, fyi from the Cinci. suburbs: Romney signs outweigh Obama signs by about 3:1. Last little tidbit: nearby "kool aid" house (always has Dem signs up every election) has every Dem sign there is (like 12-15 signs) but NO Obama sign. Hm.

I dunno. I am extremely worried about Ohio. Axelgrease is putting up a firewall in four battleground states, OH, NV, NH, IA. This MUST be countered most strongly by Romney's organization, ASAP. Redouble. Focus, guys! It would be tragic beyond words for this great nation to see Romney only win the popular vote over these desperate hellbent Leftist bastads..

(12 cont.) With this horrible Early Voting, Obama's Ohio crew is working this election like CardCheck, beating the bushes for every possible vote each day, checking off the names, and working and reworking their lists, and then going out the next day to do it again, locate and drag in more votes for Early Voting. Pester them until they vote, is the order of the day. So you have people now voting who would have not made the effort otherwise. Completely changing the electorate. For the first week of early voting in Ohio, you could register and early vote the same day. No lost drunk in any bar or gutter was safe from Obama activists. It's a complete travesty, IMO.

There is one Ohio Congressman - Jim Jordan - saying Ohio will go for Romney.
Jordan is optimistic Romney and Ryan will win. He said Romney dominated Tuesday’s debate, especially on economic issues, because President Obama has an indefensible record.

There is no way that Obama can win Ohio. In the 2008 election Ohio democrats had many more registered than Republicans. Today it is reversed . There are many more registered Republicans than Dimocrats in Ohio. All of those people did not register as Republicans so they could vote for Nobama! I predict Romney will win Ohio by at leas t 5 points and probably more.

The Obama campaign way overplayed there hand. They spent millions demonizing Romney in attack ads. If you didn't know anything about Romney before the debates you would now be pleasantly surprised to find that Romney is a very capable and honorable man. So I think many people may find themselves happy fo vote for Romney.
I also think after the next debate Romney will have this election in the bag. Obama cannot run from this Libya mess. And if Romney talks about Obama not attending the security briefings 60% of the time and all the other naive mistakes Romney will, as he already is, look like the next president.

I dunno, #16. I'm not so confident. I understand that the Republican primary in Ohio was competitive while the Democratic one was a snoozer. So some say that many Ohio Democrats registered Republican to participate in the interesting race then... Ohio is a complete wild card in my book, with a lot of advantages on Obama's side of the ledger, like an improving economy that he may get more credit for than Gov Kasich, or Obama's well established, well funded GOTV operation.
Don't you mess this up for us, Ohio!?

Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette, the lead Democratic sponsor of a federal bill to ban high-capacity magazines, is apparently unaware that such magazines can be reloaded and reused, according to a comment she made at a Denver Post-sponsored forum on gun control on Tuesday. When asked how limiting the number of bullets in magazines would help reduce violence, she replied: (snip) "So if you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time, because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

Any adult who takes a school matter into his or her own hands – like a mother who allegedly entered Withrow High School without permission Thursday and helped her daughter beat up another girl – will be held accountable, Cincinnati Police Chief James Craig said Monday. Police say the mother, her daughter and another woman burst into a classroom at the school on Madison Road about 2 p.m. Thursday. The mother and daughter, according to police, assaulted a 15-year-old girl, striking her with fists, feet and a combination lock. Teacher Kim Kilby suffered a black eye in the scuffle.

Vice President Joe Biden announced Thursday that he will recommend new gun control measures to President Barack Obama, which include more comprehensive background checks on gun buyers and limits on the sizes of ammunition magazines. The proposal could lead to the most significant move on guns in 20 years, but one regulation highly coveted by gun control advocates is notably missing: a ban on assault weapons.

Last June, Urooj Khan literally jumped for joy as he stood in a Far North Side 7-Eleven, having just learned he held a $1 million-winning instant lottery ticket. Less than a month later, Khan, 46, died at his West Rogers Park home — of apparent hardening of the arteries. But now, Khan’s death has been reclassified as a homicide, and investigators say he died from cyanide poisoning. Investigators are moving toward exhuming Khan’s body for further tests, Cook County Chief Medical Examiner Stephen J. Cina said Monday.

First things first. At 12:00:00 a.m., we go over the fiscal cliff. And at 12:00:01 a.m., most Americans will be talking about the new year, not the new fiscal regime. That´s entirely appropriate. In theory, midnight will usher in huge policy shifts: The tax code will return to what it was in the Clinton era, while a series of automatic spending cuts will begin to take effect. (snip) It’s as if President George W. Bush finally won—the tax cuts he’d always wanted would be staying on the books indefinitely, "starving the [government] beast" of the resources it needs to survive.

At the moment it is a faint object, visible only in sophisticated telescopes as a point of light moving slowly against the background stars. It doesn´t seem much – a frozen chunk of rock and ice – one of many moving in the depths of space. But this one is being tracked with eager anticipation by astronomers from around the world, and in a year everyone could know its name. Comet Ison could draw millions out into the dark to witness what could be the brightest comet seen in many generations – brighter even than the full Moon.

In the days after the horrific tragedy in Newtown, Conn., I made it clear that I believe it is time for us to move from rhetoric to action to prevent future acts of senseless mass violence. Since then, much has been made of those comments — some of it accurately reflecting what I said, some not. Because I am an A-rated, lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and a proud defender of the Second Amendment, some people viewed my comments as a tipping point in the debate about guns in America.

At the end of another lavishly-funded U.N. conference that yielded no progress on curbing greenhouse emissions, many of those most concerned about climate change are close to despair. Navy´s decade of dominance over Army was 14 yards away from sinking. Then the Black Knights botched a handoff with an overdue victory in sight and the Midshipmen pounced on the fumbled ball. Tight games or blowouts, Navy has made a habit of beating Army. Keenan Reynolds helped Navy top Army for the 11th straight time, scoring the winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter in a 17-13 victory in the 113th rivalry game Saturday. The Midshipmen can hook an anchor to the Commander-in-Chief´s Trophy and bring it to Annapolis.

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends. Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy.
