Federal Reserve 'bomber' plotted to kill Obama: Foreign student, 21, who 'tried to blow up Manhattan bank with 1,000lb car bomb planned to take out President' Daily Mail [UK], by Beth Stebner, Louise Boyle
The 21-year-old student behind an alleged terror plot to blow up the New York Federal Reserve also planned to target a high-ranking U.S. official, believed to be President Obama. Quazi Nafis, from Bangladesh, was arrested early on Wednesday after he allegedly tried to remotely detonate a fake 1,000-pound car bomb outside the building in lower Manhattan, only a few blocks from the World Trade Center. The plot was foiled by a major FBI and NYPD operation which led to Nafis being supplied with fake explosives by an undercover agent. New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said that a high-ranking
Earlier yesterday I saw the potus theory floated then removed by the evening. Which story line do you think the sinking potus will embrace/employ? Fake war in libya where he takes out, by drone, the people who killed our people in libya? Bid Laden II?. Threat of assassination? How about his kid or wife are sick? Bo has a booboo?
FTA "According to the criminal complaint, Nafis said: 'All I had in my mind are how to destroy America... I came up to this conclusion that targeting America’s economy is most efficient way to draw the path of obliteration of America as well as the path of establishment of Khilapha.’"
Hss ever ever in the history of America a president watched in real time as his Ambassador and Navy SEALs were murdered and simply went to bed so he could be up early to continue his political campaign?
It is so chilling that it makes one wonder if Stevens was on Obama's 'kill list'.
Maybe we should consider a moritorium on student visas, and track down those "students" whose visas have expired, or who haven't attended classes for the past thirty days, and who are still presumably roaming the country.
There is no point, they are both on the same side and have the same goals. The only difference is that one has the intelligence of a snake and the other of a brick. We can not allow this psycho to deprive us of our victory in November.
Maybe I missed something but all the article talked about was the plan to bomb the New York Federal Reserve building so I hardly see how that "takes out" 0bama. It also points out the ignorance of the would-be bomber. Blowing the Fed sky high would interrupt things a bit but surely, all the records are backed-up offsite. If 0bama had a son, I think he'd look a little like Quazi.
No doubt the Obama White House would report to the nation that this guy is just another wayward movie critic if they thought that they could get away with that in order to further cover for the perpetrators of radical Islamic jihad who are continuously attempting to attack the USA.
The article says that this guy plotted to kill Obama, but apparently his mission was to bomb a big bank in New York. Now everybody knows that Obama hates big New York banks, so the chances of Obama being in the vicinity of that bank giving a campaign speech are remote.
This guy's chances of coming anywhere near Obama would be much better at a college or university where Obama always gives his speeches, blowing smoke at know nothing college students like this naive radical Islamist terrorist.
And the Obama State Dept. gave this guy a student visa to study cyber security in the USA?????
Throwing in the assassination bit seems to be an afterthought. What I want to know is, why does the FBI, CIA and other security/intelligence factions have to set up a Sting Operation to catch these terrorists. It seems they have a hand in all ends of the act from securing the elements to create bombs to helping secure methods of delivery. Loads of 'fishy' smell to all of this. They knew about most of those involved in 9-11, but what was done to hinder that?
#25: I agree. I also question the timing of this thing. It knocked the debate off the front page during the time of analysis and fact check. So far nobody has done the big article laying out how Romney told a bunch of untruths. Obama lied through his teeth, but Romney didn't.
So, now they're just talking about this would be puppet ... I mean terrorist.
#8 & 23 - I don't know how they think, but I do know that we don't think like them and they don't think like us. You cannot use common logic when trying to understand what goes through the brain of a terrorist. You might as well ask why do islamists kill each other? Because it is what they do is about the only answer that fits.
Anyone want to bet that obama finds somebody.... ANYbody.... to bomb before election day? Probably before the next debate. He is desperate. I heard someone on FoxNews this a.m. saying that when we had a strike against us in Libya during the Reagan administration that within 10 days, Reagan ordered the bombing of Gaddafi's compound.... and Reagan never heard a peep from Gaddafi after that. What a man!! What a president!
#1 - low-hanging fruit, perhaps, but still hilarious.
#3 - well, The Won is fresh out of grandmothers to die the week before the election, so he's got to find something to stimulate a repeat of the sympathy bump he got in his 2008 returns. (And anticipating reactions to this comment -- no, I don't think it's possible to be too cynical about that cat or his posse.)
The muslim student, from bangladesh, was enrolled at Soutwest Missouri State, taking courses in cybersecurity. It is time to stop the insanity of letting filthy islamofascist terrorist pigs enroll in our schools.
Why would islamists want to take out Obama since he is on their side? Martyr effect. Obama is going to lose the election, if he is murdered he will be revered in this country and around the world and his causes would be carried out and expanded just like after JFK.
I believe that the news reports stated he was a follower of an Islamic Radical group that the President has stated was "decimated", but how can that be ?? Obama is never wrong. When Obama had OBL killed, he created a martyr, but of course, he never looked that far ahead to see just what the unintended consequences of his action would be. Now these people just have an additional reason to blame the USA for their hatred.
I don't believe the story that Obama was also a target for a minute.
Someone with a lot of money and an interest in manipulating US politics made...and probably financed...the plan to strike the Federal Reserve Bank. Had it succeeded, the damage to the US economy would have been significant. It could have been a game-changer, motivating voters to not switch Presidents.
It would seem to me to be totally illogical that Obama was also a target...
How offensive is the phrase ‘bongo bongo land’, used by Godfrey Bloom, a Ukip MEP, in a private address to party activists in which he inveighed against foreign aid? [Snip] As such drums were most common in Africa, ‘bongo bongo land’ was once used as a derogatory reference to that continent. But is it very offensive? It’s hard to think so. As Mr Bloom said in an interview on yesterday morning’s Today programme on Radio 4, since bongo bongo land doesn’t actually exist, its inhabitants can hardly take umbrage.
TUCSON — Young immigrants known as the “Dream 9” were released Wednesday from federal custody in Arizona, a small step in their bid to win asylum in the United States. The immigration activists were released on parole, which allows them to return to their American communities until they get the chance to argue for asylum before an immigration judge. The nine were tranferred by bus from the Eloy Detention Center in south-central Arizona to Tucson, where their arrival was welcomed by immigrant rights activists. “You’re here!” shouted someone in the crowd. Some of the dreamers and their supporters were crying.
Yemeni officials said Wednesday that the country´s security forces had broken up several plots by al Qaeda militants but the government distanced itself from those reports later in the day, illustrating Washington´s challenges as it tries to work with Yemen´s government to combat al Qaeda´s branch there. The relationship between Washington and the government in San´a is under scrutiny now, as the U.S. says Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, is behind a new terror alert that has led the State Department to stop work at embassies and issue world-wide travel alerts. Though questions remained over whether Yemen
The Government’s decision this week to pull all staff out of our embassy in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, raises questions about why we are spending some £3 million a year of taxpayers’ money on this dusty, dangerous diplomatic outpost. Why bother with a country that shows every sign of being a basket case? [Snip] Their lives could scarcely be less glamorous than the usual diplomatic round of receptions. They are the trailer trash of that world--literally. So great are the risks in Sana’a that inside their “fort” our staff sleep and eat in containers--the kind used for shipping freight.
As Chelsea Clinton continues her charity tour of Africa with her dad, she has admitted that she is reinventing herself after shunning the spotlight for much of her life. "I had very much led a deliberately private life for a very long time," she told CNN´s Nima Elbagir on Monday during a stop in Rwanda, adding, "I´m attempting to lead a purposefully public life." Growing up in the White House, the Clintons tried hard to shield their only child from the media´s harsh glare. But even as she entered adulthood, she shied away from attention. At the age
In domestic disputes with Republicans, President Obama mostly frames the debate as a clash of values. He tries to win contests of ideas. He’d be wise to stick to that higher-level framing in explaining why he canceled a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Mr. Putin often acts as if Russia is in a competition of geopolitical interests rather than values. When Edward Snowden sought asylum after stealing official American secrets, the Kremlin--which has few compunctions about domestic surveillance--treated the fugitive as merely a pawn in a global power play. In Syria, Putin sees little value in ending the mass
Yemen says it has foiled an audacious Al Qaeda plot to blow up oil pipelines and seize key ports, as US special operations forces reportedly prepare for action in the country. Security forces thwarted a plan by terrorists to take over oil and gas export facilities and a provincial capital in the eastern part of the country, a government official said today. Rajeh Badi, press advisor to Yemeni Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindwa, said the plot involved dozens of Al Qaeda militants dressed in Yemeni army uniforms storming the facilities on the night of the 27th of the Muslim month
New US drone strikes reportedly killed seven alleged al-Qaida members in southern Yemen on Wednesday after the government in Sana´a claimed to have foiled a large-scale terrorist attack and the US and Britain evacuated their embassy staff. Security officials told the Associated Press (AP) the latest drone attacks hit targets in Shabwa province, where residents reported seeing two vehicles and several bodies on fire. The news came as details emerged in the capital of an ambitious plan by the group al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), a "franchise" of the global terrorist network, to attack installations and towns.
Have you been to Bongo Bongo Land? I have--but only in Tintin and dogeared copies of Sanders of the River and the fabulous Deborah Kerr and Stewart Grainger version of King Solomon´s Mines. Still, I think we all have a good idea what Ukip MEP Godfrey Bloom was on about when he told a meeting of supporters in the West Midlands that he didn´t want vast sums of taxpayers´ money being squandered on pointless foreign aid. Often, he noted, it ends up not in the hands of the needy but on "Ray-Ban sunglasses, apartments in Paris, Ferraris and all the
Hope, a three-week-old Shih Tzu, was rejected by her natural mother, Diamond, after being born alongside a stillborn sibling. But the puppy has found a new mum in feline Coco - who gave birth to a litter of three kittens on the same day as Hope was born. Loving Coco treats Hope like one of her own - and even feeds her. Coco´s owner Paula Ball, of Liverpool, persuaded partner David Cohen, who owns Diamond, to introduce the pair. ´I suggested it because there was no other option - the puppy wouldn´t have survived otherwise,´ she said.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke out publicly for the first time on Monday in favor of immigration reform, an issue he´s been working on behind the scenes for several months. [Snip] Wearing his trademark hoodie and sneakers, Zuckerberg disputed the notion that he and other Silicon Valley leaders are just trying to secure more H1B visas for high-tech workers. Zuckerberg and his former Harvard University roommate Joe Green recently founded the organization Fwd.us to advocate for a pathway to citizenship for nearly 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. But Monday was the first time Zuckerberg spoke
A Republican candidate running for a state Senate seat in Maine has been forced to defend amusing video footage of himself dancing around in Speedos to Samba music. Eric Brakey, 24, has been attacked by Mike Hein, a former employee of the Christian Civic League, who circulated the video and described Brakey as looking like ´a demon possessed.´ But Brakey laughed off the jibes on Tuesday, pointing to his past as a professional actor and saying that the outtake was from ´comedy piece´ commercial for a soft drink made in 2011. ´It shows that I´m a full human being
WASHINGTON — U.S. officials insisted Tuesday that extraordinary security measures for nearly two dozen diplomatic posts were to thwart an “immediate, specific threat,” a claim questioned by counterterrorism experts, who note that the alert covers an incongruous set of nations from the Middle East to an island off the southern coast of Africa. Analysts don’t dispute the Obama administration’s narrative that it’s gleaned intelligence on a plot involving al Qaida’s most active affiliate, the Yemen-based Arabian Peninsula branch. That would explain why most U.S. posts in the Persian Gulf are on lockdown, including the U.
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
Critics of the president are convinced that Barack Obama will do lasting damage to the U.S. I doubt it. Obama came to power in the third year of large Democratic congressional majorities. In his first referendum, he lost the House and he may soon lose the Senate; in other words, there followed a somewhat normal reaction against a majority party. Obama’s popularity rating is well below 50%, despite an obsequious media and a brilliantly negative billion-dollar campaign that long ago turned Mitt Romney into a veritable elevator-using, equestrian-marrying, canine-hating monster. In the second term, there is little
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
The U.S. State Department issued a global alert about the terrorist threat allegedly posed by Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The USA announced the closure of its missions in the Middle East and Africa, and their example was followed by France, Britain, and Germany. However, this was only an attempt to justify the activities of the National Security Agency.Last Saturday, right after alerting of the terror threat civilians and BOLO complex ("be on the lookout") that includes law enforcement and federal officials, President Barack Obama went to play golf, and then celebrated his birthday at the presidential retreat at Camp David.
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney jumped into the debate over the GOP’s future Tuesday night, warning congressional Republicans against forcing a government shutdown in their quest to stop President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. Romney addressed more than 200 donors on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party, staged just four miles from the vacation home where he has spent much of the summer with his family. The event was closed to the media, but his office released his prepared remarks.
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
In a rare diplomatic snub, President Obama is canceling plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month. The decision reflects both U.S. anger over Russia´s harboring of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and growing frustration within the Obama administration over what it sees as Moscow´s stubbornness on other key issues, including missile defense and human rights. Obama will still attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, but a top White House official said the president had no plans to hold one-on-one talks with Putin while there.
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling found that Alaska voters would pick former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the state´s former Republican governor, Sarah Palin, if the two women were to face off in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –
Over the last week, there has been a lot of buzz about a supposed CIA angle to the Benghazi story. Specifically, it has been alleged that a substantial number of CIA employees were on the ground in Benghazi, carrying out a mission that involved rounding up Libyan weapons and transferring them to rebels in Syria. Further, it has been reported that the CIA has leaned on its employees not to cooperate with Congressional investigations or the media, and it has been suggested that the CIA’s role in Benghazi may be related to the al Qaeda
Speaking from Egypt Tuesday night, where they are hoping to broker a peaceful transition period between the country’s ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi to its next phase of nascent democracy, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham warned that concessions on both sides needed to begin immediately or Egypt’s government would “fail.” “I didn’t know it was this bad,” Graham said. “These folks are just days, weeks away from all out bloodshed.” “There is only one way that we can bring about a peaceful Egypt, and that is a process of negotiation and reconciliation between major players,” McCain said.
