| PARIS — France’s Socialist government is proposing a slew of taxes — on art, on businesses, on the rich — that are drawing criticism for stifling entrepreneurship and scaring off the wealthy. “Unfortunately, I think the politics we are leading in France will turn out to be catastrophic for the economy, which is already in bad shape,” said French economist Marc Touati, author of “When the Eurozone Explodes.” “This is a serious mistake, something you learn in [Economy 101] — it will aggravate the recession and therefore shrink the tax base.” Led by President Francois Hollande, the French government

The definition of insanity. Liberals and socialists keep thinking if they tweak the numbers just right the dam will burst and prosperity will shower forth over everyone. They always have been, and will continue to be, delusional. But then, they dont really care about everyone. What they really care about is fancy homes, a fat bank account, and luxury vacations ala the wookie.

You beat me to it #1. What could possibly go wrong? With France in a downward spiral, economically and spiritually weakened--what a perfect beginning to a European caliphate. And the sad thing is, I don't believe the French have the will or energy for a new Revolution.

So why did they vote for a stupid socialist then?? Are the people all stupid and ignorant? I guess so... Oh, and they are leftists--nothing is "liberal" about socialism or leftism. We need to stop helping them mislead the public with their use of the word "liberal".

Instead of austerity, the French voted themselves more socialist pie.
Now, either through punitive taxation or by the rich fleeing, soon everyone left in France will have equal financial status. Yes, they will all be poor and dependent on the government for subsistence.

If the world's left ever gave up on tax increases,it would be the end of them as an institution. It's bad enough we're under a tax threat from Obama buy now the UN wants a global internet tax.Of course theynever runout of reasons for pushing he tax increases like fighting poverty and education.
My brain needs time to rewire itself everytime I hear a leftist saying they want to ereadicate poverty. It's never through economic expansion which is a proven solution but simple redistribution.Poverty is a condition, not a lack of money.
Of course the UN bureaucrats use the new revenues to buy themselves better cars and more expensive dinners at exclusive restaurants while giving token amounts to the so called poor.
You can't have white farmers in Africa producing tons of homegrown food because it hurts the UN's shakedown efforts.

It is too early to say much about today’s terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon, but one thing struck me when I watched this video, which Steve posted earlier today, as well as other videos and photos of the aftermath of the explosions: The response to the bombs by the crowd at the finish line was, I think, exemplary. Sure, many people fled from the explosions, and reasonably so. But a remarkable number ran, as they say, to the sound of the guns, even though when two bombs go off, one might well expect more. Many of these were professionals. The finish line of a marathon is a fortuitous spot to bomb,

It was too good to last. For the last few weeks, the Obama administration has been showing more fortitude in confronting a belligerent North Korea than either the Bush or Clinton administrations had done. But last week, as I previously noted, there was a worrisome leak in the New York Times which quoted administration officials as saying that any response to a North Korean attack would be strictly proportional—which can only encourage Kim Jong-un to act, safe in the knowledge that the U.S. and South Korea will not “over-react” and bring down his criminal regime in response.

President Obama’s offer to trim Social Security benefits has perplexed and angered Democrats, but GOP leaders are embracing the proposal and rushing to jump-start a debate that will delve even more deeply into the touchy topic of federal spending on the elderly. This week, two House subcommittees plan to hold hearings on “reforms to protect and preserve” programs for retirees, starting with Obama’s proposal to apply a less generous measure of inflation to annual increases in Social Security benefits. Also on the table are higher Medicare premiums and reduced benefits for better-off seniors,

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, kicked off Monday’s session by saying the victims of December’s Connecticut shooting rampage deserve a vote on gun legislation and warning of “unreasonable extremists” who may try to derail or delay the process. Mr. Reid said protecting citizens’ Second Amendment rights and working to prevent gun violence are “both worthy goals, and they should not be mutually exclusive goals.” The Senate on Monday begins debate on a gun-control bill, the expected centerpiece of which is a amendment that would expand gun-purchase background

President Obama is following the murder trial of a Philadelphia abortionist, but the White House wouldn’t say Monday whether he’s drawn any conclusions from the gruesome testimony. “The president is aware of this,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said in response to a reporter’s question of whether Mr. Obama is paying attention to the trial of Kermit Gosnell. But asked if Mr. Obama had reached any public policy lessons from the trial, Mr. Carney said, “The president does not and cannot take a position on an ongoing trial.” Dr. Gosnell is on trial on murder

LightBox spoke with Boston Globe photographer John Tlumacki, who photographed the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Tlumacki, who has photographed more than 20 marathons in his 30 years at the Globe, describes the sheer chaos of the scene: I was covering the finish line at the ground level at the marathon. Everything was going on as usual. It was jovial — people were happy, clapping — and getting to a point where it gets a little boring as a photographer. And then we heard this explosion. It was sort of like, ok, what’s that all about?

Congressional sources say that GOP lawmakers and strategists are urging Speaker Boehner to kill any gun control legislation that comes to the House by refusing to act on it. The Speaker is planning "what could be a months-long review of the bill that likely would involve chipping away at gun-related measures" and instead encourage options that focus on the mental health aspect of gun violence. "I fully expect that the House will act on (gun) legislation in the coming months," Boehner said. "But ... I want the (House) Judiciary Committee to take the time to look

AUSTIN, Texas — Republican mega-donor Bob Perry never cared for the spotlight. But writing big checks and financing one of the most famous television ads ever in a presidential campaign made the Texas millionaire famous nonetheless. A wealthy Houston homebuilder who shunned publicity while generously bankrolling GOP candidates — and becoming a force in a new era of lavish spending in American politics — Perry died over the weekend, said former Texas state Rep. Neal Jones, a close family friend. Jones said late Sunday that Perry died "peacefully in his sleep" Saturday night. He did not offer further details.

The remarks came shortly before the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)

In anticipation of Senate votes this week on a proposed expansion of criminal background checks for firearms sales, one gun rights organization broke with the powerful National Rifle Association on Sunday to urge support for a compromise drafted by Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) and Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.). The endorsement by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms — which calls itself the second-largest gun rights organization in the country, behind the NRA, claiming 650,000 members and supporters — is one of several moves over the past few

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has accepted the resignation of his Prime Minister Salam Fayyad despite pleas from the U.S. and the EU that he retain Fayyad. Actually, I am wrong to say “despite.” According to Fatah officials, U.S. pressure on Abbas to keep Fayyad in power proved counterproductive. Let us not probe the merits of Abbas’ decision to accept Fayyad’s resignation or explore the demerits of Fayyad’s tenure as prime minister. Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.

President Obama and I were college classmate at Columbia University, class of ’83. I know all too well how mindlessly liberal the students and faculty of that institution can be, and Barack Obama is certainly no exception. My time at Columbia made it crystal clear: liberals always believe they are morally superior. [Snip] It is in this cesspool of intolerance that Obama and his Marxist cronies hatched a secret plan to destroy our country. There are two things you need to know about Obama at Columbia University. First, he was Pre Law and a Political Science major- just like me.
