| Both volunteers in a study to see if women could become Marine ground combat leaders have dropped out of the rigorous Infantry Officer Course, with the second failing because of a medical reason late last week, the Marine Corps Times reported. A second lieutenant was unable to complete the required training and left the program on Friday because of unreported medical reasons, the newspaper reported on its website. Now there will be calls to make the requirements easier for women because ''it's not fair.'' That has been the trend under the 0bama regime and with the officers it has promoted with the Marine Corps. being the most resistant. The rule for the entire US military should be: If You are UNQUALIFIED you don't GET IN.

I'm not sure what the Marine Corps' 13-week course entails. However, when I did the Army's 26-week Infantry Officer Candidate School (back in 1967), it was not considered unusual for nearly half the class to drop out.
These are tough courses, and are *meant* to be tough. Ladies, of course, are welcome to try...

Sorry for the second posting. I hit enter too fast. The point is for women not to try just because they can try. As you said #1, the course is tough enough to pass for men. Having the cadre lower standards for weaker personnel just degrades the course.

Bless them for trying. If a woman can make it through the existing course successfully I have not problem with them participating fully. But if they can't make it then no standards should be lowered. Lives -- including theirs -- are on the line.

I read the Gazette article a few months ago. It is based on her combat stress experience which was considerable and though she was at the very top of physical preparedness for a Female Marine Officer. The expectation of young Marines for the exceptional physical fitness of their Platoon Leaders is enormous. A lot of times you are feeling your way to gain your footing in all your areas of responsibility. Your touchstone is your physical fitness and your ability to demonstrate to them that you can "pack the gear". If you can't, your bars won't save you and you are not likely to get the confidence of the platoon back. This is the physical challenge all Platoon Commanders face. Hence the elevation of the physical challenge to women just because of physiology. This experiment does not seem to be a smart road to travel if readiness is your goal.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women.
