Catholic Knights of Columbus
crusading for marriage measure

Minneapolis StarTribune, by BAIRD HELGESON

Original Article

Posted By:voxpopuli, 10/14/2012 11:27:41 PM

In Minnesota, the Knights of Columbus are best known for hosting charitable free-throw contests, collecting pennies to support seminarians and conducting Tootsie Roll drives to aid people with disabilities. (snip) Several longtime Catholics who oppose the marriage amendment said they were surprised and troubled by the Knights' involvement in the marriage issue. They said they only knew the group for its charity work, locally and abroad. Now they are crushed to learn..

Comments:
who else but the RedStar expressing SURPRISE that CATHOLICS - not their "katholik" friends - are supporting an anti-homosexual agenda on the ballot..
note the statements from the "troubled" anti-Americans who call themselves "catholics"..

My favorite part was the "long time Catholics". Anyone who is a long time Catholic who doesn't know that the K of C stands with and defends the teachings of the Church isn't a long time Catholic who knows their faith.

Golly gee. What a suprise to the egghead media yahoos of Minneapolis? A group of Catholic men are supporting the Biblically-supported teachings of the Church.

I guess all they thought the Knights did was run a bar and some fish frys.

My husband and I both work in the Catholic Church as a Deacon and Liturgy Coordinator, respectively. We know of no practicing Catholics who favor same-sex marriage. Get ready for the new evangelization -- Catholics empowered to stand up for their religious principles, regardless the cost.

It can't be much longer until the all ''cafeteria katholics'' in this country finally break off and start their own church.

All the devout Roman Catholics will continue to believe in solid basic Christian beliefs (especially in things like abortion being murder, and marriage being an instutuion of one man and one woman).

I'm not Catholic, but every KC I have ever known has been a devout, faithful Christian man that I would proudly stand next to if fighting all the secularists and lie-beral ''Christians'' that want to destroy the basic tenants of Christianity in the name of forming the new ''First Church of What's Happening Now -- If It Feels Good, Do It -- Don't Let That Pesky Bible, or 2000+ Years of Belief, Get In the Way of Thinking with Your Loins -- Assembly!!!''

Liberals go ballistic whenever anyone disagrees with them. That's especially true if their opponents are Christian. They seem to think that religious people have no right to speak out on public policy, and no voice in a democracy. They're fascists at heart. Read the article -- and the comments -- and you'll see how liberals long for the day when they can use the full force of government power to silence those who oppose them.

I thought I'd remark on this; but preceding posters pretty well covered anything I would have said.

#5 must live in a somewhat atypical parish, though. A large number of Catholics let themselves be secularized in the post-1960s time, and in some regions a majority oppose their Church's unchanging teachings on marriage and contraception.

And in some dioceses a near-majority of priests even argue against those teachings (though it seems none of those is under 35).

PS: The Knights of Columbus were very involved here in Calfornia in 2008, when we fought back the same-sex marriage crowd, and passed Proposition 8, an ammendment to our State Constitution - stating that marriage is between one man and one woman. God bless them!!!

I recently became a 3rd degree knight. I was astonished and impressed at the level of comitment it requires to the Churchs teachings and to the Pope and bishops.

When i was a kid we had a K of C hall in town, and it was really a booze hall. Staffed and frequented by alchies who didnt go to Mass, it seemed to me.

Todays org is not your fathers K of C. You cant even join without being a practicing Catholic. Ive been wondering how long the MM was going to let us fly under the radar. I guess now we know: no longer.

The poster above really thinks that in a scant 2 weeks from the election the conservative base is going to get energized & show up to vote for a moderate GOP candidate (who raised $$ for Planned Prnthd when a Gov) because the KofC started voicing an abortion litmus test for him?

Get serious! All they are going to do in 2 weeks is give the Leftist Media something they can desperately jump on & energize THEIR base & turn off the Swing voters who were willing to switch from Obama to Romney.

I agree we need a more conservative candidate who is pro-life! The election wouldn't even be close if we had one, imho. But they should have done this when we were picking/vetting our nominee, not now. It's too late now! They aren't going to suddenly make a hard line pro-choicer out of Romney. They should have pushed for one instead of Romney!

You can't energize the conservative base with an already chosen & on the ballot moderate!

Liberal Catholics like to think of themselves as more enlightened than evangelical Protestants (or fundies, as the and other liberals call them). But the two groups have more in common than not on issues such as abortion, same sex marriage and women in the clergy. And all of these positions are Biblically-based.

The second and third floor later collapsed. The injured were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center and Univesity Hospital.
