Russia says it will not renew arms agreement with U.S.

| Moscow - Russia will not renew a decades-old agreement with Washington on dismantling nuclear and chemical weapons when it expires next year, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov was quoted as saying on Wednesday. The death of the 1991 agreement, which had been renewed twice, is the latest in a series of hitches in relations between the United States and Russia and casts doubt on the future of the much-vaunted "reset" in relations between the Cold War-era foes.

Why should Russia renew an arms agreement with a country that is downsizing its military to the point where it is becoming so ineffective that they could take it by force? Brave as our soldiers are, they can't fight without the proper equipment or the backing of their so-called commander in chief.

What I don't understand is why our government (even before the Marxist regime of Obama took over) didn't see that we have been heading for another Cold War for some time now. The communists have been struggling to regain power and they are now in position to put the old Soviet Union back into place at any time. Putin has always been a communist. He hated the reform.

Phoenix -- Authorities are investigating what was reported to be an explosive device addressed to Arizona´s Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in America" known for his strict treatment of jail inmates and cracking down on illegal immigration. The device intercepted in Flagstaff late Thursday was in a package addressed to Arpaio at his downtown Phoenix office, the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Office said in a statement. It appeared suspicious, so it was X-rayed and the device was detected. A bomb squad team neutralized the explosive, the statement said.

Someone ought to pull aside some of television’s talking heads and magpies of the left and explain how babies are made. They’re very, very upset that Mitch McConnell, the senator from Kentucky who is the leader of the Republicans in the U.S. Senate, is openly practicing politics, like an actress coming out of the closet as a thespian, or a shopkeeper shamelessly committing nepotism with his daughter. This is so far mostly of interest to a small but noisy conventicle of magpies, perched on telephone wires in Washington and Manhattan,

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Wednesday questioned how the Republican Party lost the black vote after a century with the GOP - from the Civil War to the civil rights movement - during a speech at the historically black college of Howard University in Washington, D.C. “How did the party that elected the first black U.S. senator, the party that elected the first 20 African-American congressmen, how did that party become a party that now loses 95 percent of the black vote?” Paul asked.

´We´ll have to see what the Howard students thought,´ Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul shouted from an elevator Wednesday afternoon, answering MailOnline´s question about whether his foray into winning the hearts and minds of black youths was successful. Paul, a Republican darling who is already laying the groundwork for a 2016 presidential run with a coming appearance in New Hampshire, had just wrapped up a two-hour appearance at the Howard University School of Business. Howard is among the U.S. colleges classified as ´historically black,´ and the audience of approximately 300 included few white faces apart from those belonging to reporters.

President Obama´s budget this week proposed $50 billion in new infrastructure funding. Joining Obama in this fight for more federal infrastructure money will be the American Conservative Union, likely funded by the government contractors who pocket those highway tax dollars. Republicans have always been unreliable on reducing federal spending. GOP politicians will crow about bloated budgets and dangerous deficits but then load spending bills with parochial pork. Republican talk of spending cuts almost always leaves the defense budget sacrosanct, with highway spending also receiving special treatment. The Tea Party revolt has blamed this GOP inconsistency for Washington´s budgetary incontinence.

President Obama has made a big show of the fact that his fiscal year 2014 budget supposedly cuts the debt by $1.8 trillion and cuts Social Security by adopting a new way of measuring inflation. Unfortunately, according to the Congressional Budget Office, Obama’s debt savings are only half what he claims and are achieved entirely through tax hikes. Worse his supposed Social Security cut actually raises taxes on middle class families. Here are the facts: According to Obama’s own numbers, his budget would leave the American people with a $19.03 trillion debt burden by 2023.

The National Rifle Association, which had disappointed Senate gun control foes for being slow to condemn the Toomey-Manchin background check compromise, late Wednesday stepped up their attack on the deal, threatening to include the measure on their powerful report card used to grade lawmakers. Several hours after gun control fans heralded the NRA´s initial reaction to the compromise as a "positive development," the organization´s chief lobbyist, Chris Cox, issued a letter to senators warning against voting to allow debate on the gun control legislation to continue.

Politico has an interesting story out today about Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Penn., headlined, “NRA Ally Pat Toomey Pivots on Gun Control Efforts” in the print edition and “NRA Ally Pat Toomey’s Gun Control Moment” online. The story details how the senator, who is up for re-election in 2016, is co-sponsoring compromise gun control legislation with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. He is trying to ensure that he has a moderate image in his purplish battleground state. The story notes: Toomey’s alliance with Manchin this week is just the latest example of his willingness to work with Democrats.

A Mississippi car company started by Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe failed to pay more than $16,500 it owed in taxes for two months, claiming confusion about whether the company was tax exempt. GreenTech Automotive paid its taxes earlier this week, plus nearly $500 in late fees, after The Washington Examiner made an inquiry to officials in Tunica County, Mississippi, about the company´s status. That inquiry led to discussions between company executives and county officials, and an agreement that the taxes would be paid. In the run up to the governor´s race, McAuliffe had frequently touted the electric car company

In 2011, the journalist Mara Hvistendahl published Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men, detailing the societal effects of sex-selective abortions that target women the world over and resulted in the absence of perhaps more than 100 million girls who by now should have been born. But Hvistendahl soon learned the downside to uncovering what many believe to be a shocking trend in human rights offenses: people will want to do something about it. And so she lashed out, declaring that “anti-abortion activists

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

Remember little Anthony Freemont, played by cute little Billy Mumy, in one of the "Twilight Zone´s" most famous episodes? In the opening sequence Rod Serling informs us: "A monster had arrived in the village. Just by using his mind, he took away the automobiles, the electricity, the machines -- because they displeased him -- and he moved an entire community back into the dark ages -- just by using his mind. . . . and the people there have to smile. They have to think happy thoughts and say happy things because once displeased, the monster can wish them into a cornfield

Whatever big-busted fantasies crawl around the ex-congressman’s delirious noggin, la Weiner made his next goal as clear as the skin of the wholesome college students he craved: He relishes being Mayor Weiner. LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends. Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy.

I’ve been writing about media coverage of abortion for many years. And so have many others. If you haven’t read David Shaw’s “Abortion Bias Seeps Into The News,” published in the Los Angeles Times back in 1990, you should. That report also explains why we cover the topic here at GetReligion. But the thing is that I’m getting kind of sick of pointing out egregious bias only to see things not just remain bad but get worse. Just think, in the last year, we saw the media drop any pretense of objectivity and bully the Susan G. Komen Foundation
