GOP weekly address:
Mitt Romney ‘gets it’ on
small biz, regulations

The Hill [Washington DC], by Ben Geman

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 10/13/2012 10:27:09 AM

A Republican House candidate from Oklahoma said Saturday that Mitt Romney will help small businesses that President Obama is burying in costly red tape. “If we’re serious about keeping jobs here and bringing jobs home, we need to stop burdening small businesses with excessive and unnecessary regulations. We need to get government out of the way,” said Markwayne Mullin in the GOP's weekly address. “Mitt Romney gets it; he’s made supporting small businesses a key plank of his jobs plan. And the Republican majority in the House has passed several bipartisan, common-sense proposals to address excessive regulations

Obama: Health Insurance a ‘Right’
PJ Media, by Rick Moran    Original Article

Good news. President Obama has vastly expanded the concept of “rights” in America by decree. He told a radio audience in his weekly address that health insurance is now a “right” that every American enjoys: Your health insurance isn’t something to play politics with. Our economy isn’t something to play politics with. This isn’t a game. This is about the economic security of millions of families. See, in the states where governors and legislatures and insurers are working together to implement this law properly – states like California, New York, Colorado and Maryland – competition and consumer choice are actually making

Mediaite’s Noah Rothman joined the panel on Fox News Watch Saturday, leading off a discussion about Oprah Winfrey and race, in light of the media mogul’s recent remarks about Trayvon Martin and experiencing racism in Switzerland. Picking up on themes from a column he wrote earlier in the week, Rothman said there’s “precedent” for Winfrey tying claims racism to projects she’s promoting, with this week’s example being her high profile return to acting in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. “This is something of a precedent,” Rothman told host Jon Scott. “It just kind of comes right before she’s promoting a project,

Obama makes time for politics

President Obama worked on his golf game, had quiet dinners with his wife and went cycling with his kids. But amid the tourist delights of ice cream parlors and fried clam shacks dotted around Martha’s Vineyard, the hard business of politics was never too far away. Obama also used his eight-day vacation, which ends Sunday, as an opportunity to spend time with Democratic donors and influential business figures, dropping in on two private social events at the homes of political supporters and inviting important allies to hit the links with him.

Ten days after two Canadian brothers were killed by an escaped 14-foot python, authorities found 40 of the snakes at a southern Ontario motel. The seized ball pythons, all between 1 and 4 1/2 feet, were found in several plastic storage bins that were being stored in a Colborne St. motel on Thursday, Brantford Police said in a statement. Brandon James, an inspector with the Brant County SPCA, said the reptiles were suffering from dehydration. “We popped the lids of the containers and saw a mass of snakes,” he told the St. Catharines Standard. “They were all entangled. "Lee Daniels´ The Butler" opened to a strong $8.3 million Friday, putting the Forest Whitaker-Oprah Winfrey civil rights saga on pace for a debut weekend in the $25 million range. That about $5 million over analysts´ expectations and makes the Weinstein Company´s decision to release the "The Butler" in 2,933 theaters, rather than the gradual platform release favored for most awards hopefuls, look like a good one. Its $8,300 per-screen average was well ahead of anything else in the market on Friday. Also read: ´´The Butler´ Reviews: Is the Civil Rights Drama a Masterpiece or Maudlin?

"This Town" exposes Washington, DC, for the scandal that it really is. The conventional wisdom is that the nation´s capitol is dysfunctional. And for the American taxpayers, that is certainly true. But, for the people who actually live and work there, it is functioning better than they could have ever imagined, thank you very much. As Leibovich reveals in his book, which is a literary proctological exam of the country´s political establishment, "The problem is not that the city is hopelessly divided, the problem is that it is hopelessly interconnected." Leibovich puts Washington through an acid bath,

Egypt’s famous Malawi National Museum has been ransacked, looted and smashed up by vandals in another example of the recent unrest in the country. Photos of the damaged artefacts and empty display cases were released this afternoon as supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi fought a gunbattle with security forces in a Cairo mosque. According to a statement made by the Ministry of Antiquities, the museum, in the Upper Egyptian city of Minya, was allegedly broken into and some artifacts were damaged and stolen on Thursday evening. Audrey Hepburn had come a long way from her early days as third chorus girl on the left in the line-up for a 1950 musical called Sauce Piquante at London’s Cambridge Theatre. Her take-home pay then was a modest £8 a week, but she had gone on to become the toast of Broadway in Gigi, won an Oscar for her first big Hollywood movie Roman Holiday, and played a string of other major roles in films such as Breakfast At Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady. In short, she’d become a millionaire and a world star. But in private, she lived

In the ongoing federal investigation of state Supreme Court Justice Seamus P. The federal grand jury subpoenas to law firms also demanded information about campaign donations to McCaffery, according to Morris and Charles E. For the first time since the Carter Administration, solar panels are going up on the roof of the White House. It´s part of a mandate towards renewable energy in the federal government, but also a symbolic gesture that the president is plowing ahead with his green energy agenda, regardless of congressional opposition. It´s a policy that EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy affirmed Wednesday at the University of Colorado, Boulder. "He said that he wasn´t going to wait for Congress, but that he had administrative authorities," she said. "It was time to start utilizing those more effectively, in a more concerted way." Marc

Oprah Winfrey and her co-star in Lee Daniels’ The Butler Forest Whitaker appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 Thursday night to promote their film. "It´s not only about asking women, which is something we need to do -- but also about making sure that the party leadership and those in elected office are looking for women to succeed them." Fluke,

Americans continue to harken to the call of the bodacious, idyllic, post-war, big-finned, fabulous ‘50s. Given a choice of any decade in the century, the public would most want to live in the 1950s, this according to a new YouGov/Economist poll. The 1980s comes in second - with some interesting partisan divides between Republicans and Democrats over the decades. And the numbers: 18 percent of Americans would live in the 1950s if they could go back in time; 20 percent of Republicans and 14 percent of Democrats agree. 15 percent of Americans overall would chose to live in the 1960s;

An Oklahoma federal judge struck down a state constitutional amendment that forbade its courts from considering Islamic law in judicial decisions. The constitutional amendment — approved by more than 70% of Oklahoma voters in 2010 — was part of a broader national push led by a handful of organizations that claim Islamic Sharia law is creeping into courtrooms. WSJ wrote about the anti-Sharia movement last year. Because the proposed amendment discriminated among religions, Oklahoma needed to show a compelling state interest to justify it, U.S. District Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange in Oklahoma City wrote in her decision. The decision, made on Thursday, largely mirrors
