| ST. PETERSBURG -- There are two million Hispanic voters in Florida. It's a constituency that has the power to shift a tight election, so both political parties have tried to sway the Hispanic vote their way. President Barack Obama has held a comfortable lead with Hispanics. But now there has been a significant shift in the polls. An exclusive Tampa Bay Times/Bay News 9 statewide poll shows many Hispanic voters dropping their support for Obama. Last month, 52 percent of Hispanic voters polled said they would vote for the president. That has now dropped to 44 percent.

I should think so, in light of the fact that they keep discoverng more and more Mexican bodies .... people killed because Eric Holder's 'Fast and Furious' secret weapons maneuver. Hispanics, like the community-organized ones, have been USED and ABUSED by Obama and his flunkies.

Can provide a first hand report here in Central Florida where I live, Fast & Furious is a topic of discussion among some hispanic folks I know. They watch Univision and other hispanic channels like I read Lucianne, and that's a lot. There are facts in this report from what I see and hear daily. Good news indeed.

This jibes with reality.
Americans of latin/spanish heritage are not the comically unsophisticated useful idiots that the Obama campaign believes them to be. (Although some of the self-appointed "leaders" are.)
They and/or their parents didn't leave Cuba and various SA dictatorships to remake America in the image of what they fled from.
The old saw that a republican is a democrat who has acquired property of his own fits Hispanic americans as much as it does everyone else.

Anybody know if the shift is mostly Cuban or is it mostly other Hispanics? Cubans tend to be more politically conservative.

Wish writers would stop using the word *performance*, as though the debaters are actors.
A good actor's performance makes one believe the invented character. Now, Clint Eastwood did a great performance portraying a somewhat addled ole guy with messed up hair, talking to a nasty Zero in the empty chair. What a performance!
But a debate is not a performance. A debate must stand on truth. But Zero cannot stand on truth.

No. 9 makes an excellent point. "Hispanics" are not a homogeneous bloc. In the United States there are Mexicans, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, people from various Central American countries, and even a few Spanish from the old country. A significant percentage of the "Hispanics" in Florida are Cubans. None of them are illegals. Most of the Cubans and all of the Puerto Ricans are American citizens. The same cannot be said of the "Hispanics" in California, Arizona, New Mexico, or Texas. That makes it hard to project the Florida trend to the Southwestern states.

WASHINGTON—With the White House trying to keep pressure on Congress to pass gun control legislation, President Obama has asked the mother of a 6-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy to deliver his weekly radio address. Francine Wheeler, whose son Ben was among the 26 victims of the Connecticut school shooting, will deliver the radio address, said White House spokesman Jay Carney. "Nobody has a more important and powerful perspective on the issue than the families who have lost loved ones," Carney said.

LOS ANGELES — Comedian Jonathan Winters, whose breakneck improvisations inspired Robin Williams, Jim Carrey and many others, has died at age 87. Longtime family friend Joe Petro III says Winters died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes. Winters was a master of improvisational comedy, with a grab bag of eccentric personalities and facial expressions. Characters such as the dirty old lady Maude Frickert were based on people Winters knew growing up in Ohio. In the mid-1950s, "The Jonathan Winters Show" pioneered the then-new videotape technology on to do stunts such as showing up as two characters

HOLLYWOOD — Republican leaders plotted their party’s political comeback on Thursday with plans to court minority voters and modernize their political operations. But some wondered if one person could make it all for naught: Hillary Clinton. As attendees of the Republican National Committee’s spring meeting debated party rules and a refurbished GOP brand capable of winning back the White House, more than two dozen operatives and officials expressed worry that none of their party’s potential 2016 candidates can take her down. One early-state RNC member put it simply

The airline industry is warning that passengers would shoulder the financial burden if Congress backs new taxes on tickets and air carriers in the Obama Administration’s budget proposal. “The president’s budget represents an unprecedented tax grab on the backs of airlines and their customers, who already pay more than their fair share of taxes,” Nicholas E. Calio, president of the industry trade group Airlines for America, said in a statement Thursday.

Kerry also warned Pyongyang that firing a medium-range missile would be a "provocative and unwanted act." “Kim Jong Un needs to understand, as I think he probably does, what the outcome of a conflict would be,” Kerry said. “Our hope is we can get back to talks."

An April 11 picture from North Korea (DPRK) shows female soldiers patrolling along the Yalu River in 4-inch platform heels. Given that DRPK leader Kim Jong-un has South Korea, Japan, and the U.S. on high alert amid hints of a ballistic missile test and threats of nuclear war, this is a strange sight. Usually the bizarre images coming out of the Hermit Kingdom come from propaganda videos, but sometimes we get shots like this and the one showing Kim´s logitech mouse.

NEWARK — Former Newark Mayor Sharpe James was robbed today on Bergen Street, police and family members said. While standing on the 1100 block of Bergen Street, a teenager approached the 77-year-old James and snatched a gold chain from his neck, his son, John Sharpe James, said. The account was confirmed by two police officials, one of whom said the former mayor was put in a choke-hold. James was not injured, his son said

In her remarkable life, Margaret Thatcher achieved what Hillary Rodham Clinton still wants (or at least what the pundits say she wants): She became the first female leader of her country, and she did it in such a determined way that her sex was almost an afterthought. In many respects, the two women are profoundly different. Thatcher, who died Monday at 87, was a self-described "conviction politician" and arch-conservative who channeled Milton Friedman and bonded fiercely with "Ronnie" Reagan, her great pal and partner on the world stage as the Cold War came to an end.

DETROIT -- A Detroit professor and legal adviser to the Vatican says Catholics who promote gay marriage should not try to receive holy Communion, a key part of Catholic identity. And the archbishop of Detroit, Allen Vigneron, said Sunday that Catholics who receive Communion while advocating gay marriage would "logically bring shame for a double-dealing that is not unlike perjury." The comments of Vigneron and Edward Peters, who teaches Catholic canon law at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, are part of a polarizing discussion about gay marriage

In 2011, the journalist Mara Hvistendahl published Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men, detailing the societal effects of sex-selective abortions that target women the world over and resulted in the absence of perhaps more than 100 million girls who by now should have been born. But Hvistendahl soon learned the downside to uncovering what many believe to be a shocking trend in human rights offenses: people will want to do something about it. And so she lashed out, declaring that “anti-abortion activists

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

Remember little Anthony Freemont, played by cute little Billy Mumy, in one of the "Twilight Zone´s" most famous episodes? In the opening sequence Rod Serling informs us: "A monster had arrived in the village. Just by using his mind, he took away the automobiles, the electricity, the machines -- because they displeased him -- and he moved an entire community back into the dark ages -- just by using his mind. . . . and the people there have to smile. They have to think happy thoughts and say happy things because once displeased, the monster can wish them into a cornfield

Whatever big-busted fantasies crawl around the ex-congressman’s delirious noggin, la Weiner made his next goal as clear as the skin of the wholesome college students he craved: He relishes being Mayor Weiner. Please, shut up this clown. These days, the genitally obsessed Weiner has nothing much to do, except sit in his lavish Manhattan apartment and — the inhumanity! — change the poopy diapers of his 16-month-old son, Jordan. Worse, Weiner is living under a kind of house arrest, sentenced to take extreme grief

I’ve been writing about media coverage of abortion for many years. And so have many others. If you haven’t read David Shaw’s “Abortion Bias Seeps Into The News,” published in the Los Angeles Times back in 1990, you should. That report also explains why we cover the topic here at GetReligion. But the thing is that I’m getting kind of sick of pointing out egregious bias only to see things not just remain bad but get worse. Just think, in the last year, we saw the media drop any pretense of objectivity and bully the Susan G. Komen Foundation
