Rocker Bruce Springsteen once said he wouldn't perform during the 2012 presidential campaign. The Boss has changed his mind. President Obama's campaign said today that Springsteen will appear along with ex-President Bill Clinton a pro-Obama rally Thursday in Parma, Ohio. "Bruce Springsteen's values echo what the President and Vice President (Biden) stand for: hard work, fairness, integrity," said Jim Messina, Obama for America's campaign manager. "His appearances will help with our get out the vote effort in these critical swing states and we are thrilled with his ongoing support."
Comments: As if NJ doesn't already have enough to be embarassed about..
Obama could have had Bon Jovi if he wanted a liberal NJ band. The likes of Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Don Henley and David Crosby are what I call 'Plaid Shirt Capitalist' they sing songs against 'the man' then fly off in Lear Jets to concerts depositing millions in bank accounts in the drawer next to Mitt Romney's money. Two faced idiots. What Springsteen really needs is voice lessons.
To each his own, but I could never understand the attraction for Bruce Springsteen. So many of my friends are crazy about his music. I always found it bland and pretentious. He's a perfect music choice for Obama.
Another among the many examples that remind us that artists and stage performers and celebrities should never be looked to for wisdom. Once upon a time everybody, including the performers themselves, knew this. No one would have dreamed of listening to their opinions about politics or other important matters. They were in fact the last people in the world to be consulted about such matters. Today it is different. Celebrity and riches are thought somehow to confer intelligence, insight, special understanding, etc. This is a reflection upon the public and the dumbing down of standards.
#21--It's part of the Europeanization of America. I have noticed that Europeans have a oddly-sainted view of celebrities--when I've gone over to Europe, their magazines and television shows obsess over their celebrities (models, movie, music, and sports stars); and when my colleagues from Europe come over to the U.S., they can't wait to talk about American celebrities. I believe it comes from the old European view of vassals and lords--the lord was your protector and master. Unlike most Americans, Europeans do not naturally have an instinct that individuals are the masters of their own fates--the Euros' instincts are to rely on the blessings from above to sustain them. So naturally, when "better" folks speak, you should listen. The Left in America tends to promote this perspective, that you should rely on the almighty power of the government for your spiritual and physical nourishment. Liberal celebrities truly believe that they are endowed with special wisdom because of their status; so they opine freely.
Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, is telling a Senate panel Tuesday that states must clarify their "stand your ground" self-defense laws. The laws, adopted in some form by at least 22 states, generally cancel a person´s duty to retreat in the face of a serious physical threat. But the 2012 shooting of Fulton´s unarmed son, Trayvon Martin, 17, and the acquittal of George Zimmerman this year provided evidence that "stand your ground" laws can be confusing and applied inconsistently, she said. "By being unclear in when and how it is applied, stand your ground in its current form is far
Lawmakers had to pause for a fact check about a 78-year-old law during a hearing that was supposed to be about ObamaCare, after Rep. Charles Rangel made the -- inaccurate -- claim that no Republicans supported the Social Security Act. The New York Democrat made the assertion Tuesday while railing against Republicans for opposing the health care law. It was during a House hearing where Marilyn Tavenner, head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, was testifying. "It should give you some small comfort to know that, historically, the Republican Party always fought vigorously against these types of programs," Rangel said.
The Obama administration offered its first formal apology to Americans and Congress for the botched rollout of the website for people to enroll in the President´s signature health care plan. The rocky start for the website is the subject of a congressional hearing Tuesday. The head of the federal agency in charge of creating the problem-plagued Obamacare website said Tuesday that some people with individual coverage must get new policies that include benefits that were unavailable before the reforms of the Affordable Care Act. Marilyn Tavenner, who runs the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, told a congressional committee that "these individuals
Former Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney joined Brian on Kilmeade and Friends and talked about Obamacare, U.S. foreign policy as well as his new book Heart: An American Medical Odyssey! VP Cheney compared Obamacare to the sequester and said we should do everything we can to stop it. Cheney also revealed that his friends in Egypt say that everybody is now convinced that President Obama supports the Muslim Brotherhood.
Robert Siegel talks with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., about the roll out of the federal health law. Pelosi says she is assured the problems with HealthCare.gov will be fixed by the end of November and that no extension or delay of the program should be granted. She also talks about the way forward with the budget. Democrats are ready to negotiate, Pelosi insists, and says their goals are clear: Get rid of sequestration, promote growth, make cuts and bring in revenue.
Is there a method to President Obama´s style of leadership, his methods of decision-making, his habits of attention, oversight and follow-through? In recent months I´ve been keeping a file of stories that might suggest an answer. See what you think. *** "President Barack Obama went nearly five years without knowing his own spies were bugging the phones of world leaders. Officials said the NSA has so many eavesdropping operations under way that it wouldn´t have been practical to brief him on all of them. "They added that the president was briefed on and approved of broader intelligence-collection ´priorities,´ but that
The ABC7 I-Team has learned of an unusual move by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in a Chicago terrorism case. The Attorney General is pressing to keep evidence gathered against a suburban teenager secret, claiming that to release it would do "grave damage" to national security. In one corner we have U.S. officials trying to dodge the diplomatic blowback from spying on foreign leaders. In another corner, we have U.S. intelligence spying on a Chicago teenager, American Adel Daoud, who was later arrested and charged in a terrorism case here. And Monday night, against the backdrop of spies, leaks and
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney faltered to respond to reporters about Obamacare costs Monday. Ed Henry of Fox News disclosed the case of a 56-year-old Florida woman whose health care costs will increase at least ten times under Obamacare. "Individual cases I cannot address," Carney responded.
Hillary Clinton headlined a high-profile Chicago fund-raiser Monday, but her appearance may have been too much for one guest to digest. Emergency medical services were called to the $5,000-a-plate fund-raiser after a guest began choking, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The guest had to be rushed out on a stretcher by paramedics, but was seen by reporters, sitting up and looking alert. No further information on the person’s condition was immediately available. The fund-raiser, held at the Chicago Sheraton Hotel, was thrown on behalf of the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago. The former First Lady and secretary of state is rumored to be considering
Washington - On the same day Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is to testify on Capitol Hill about the Obamacare website problems, President Barack Obama will travel to Boston to talk about the importance of the law, a White House official confirmed to CNN on Sunday. The event is scheduled for the historic Faneuil Hall, where then-Gov. Mitt Romney in 2006 signed the Massachusetts health care reform into law. Obama on Wednesday is expected to discuss the ongoing efforts to fix the problems plaguing the HealthCare.gov website, the official said. The administration has touted Massachusetts´ health care law as the model
When Dr Michael Minor first became pastor at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Hernando, Mississippi, in 1996, he discovered a population overcome by an epidemic of obesity. "It was so bad, I was having a funeral every weekend," he said. Minor took dramatic action for a Southern preacher, banning fried chicken at church potlucks and setting up a walking track around the church perimeter. (snip)Now he is taking on the much bigger task of trying to get the state´s nearly 275,000 uninsured people to sign up for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). With technology problems dogging enrolment on Obamacare
The Obama administration is asking Congress to hold fire on enacting new sanctions against Iran, to give negotiators flexibility in current nuclear talks.Even as US officials argue that tough sanctions are what brought Iran to the negotiating table in the first place, the White House and State Department said the administration wanted politicians to wait on new sanctions to give the negotiations time to get traction. Some politicians have argued that now is not the time to ease pressure and that pursuing new sanctions will give the US additional leverage in the talks. But State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said it was
"All we´ve been hearing the last three years is if you like your policy you can keep it.... I´m infuriated because I was lied to," one woman told this newspaper, as part of a story on how some middle-class Californians have been stunned to learn the real costs of Obamacare. And that lie looks like the biggest lie about domestic policy ever uttered by a U.S. president. The most famous presidential lies have to do with misconduct (Richard Nixon´s "I am not a crook" or Bill Clinton´s "I did not have sexual relations") or war. Woodrow Wilson campaigned on the slogan "He kept us out of war" and then plunged
President Obama repeatedly assured Americans that after the Affordable Care Act became law, people who liked their health insurance would be able to keep it. But millions of Americans are getting or are about to get cancellation letters for their health insurance under Obamacare, say experts, and the Obama administration has known that for at least three years. Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC News that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next
Food stamp recipients face a massive benefit cut set to kick in when stimulus funds expire Friday. The nationwide cut “is equivalent to about 16 meals a month for a family of three,” according to a Center on Budget and Policy Priorities analysis using the USDA’s “Thrifty Food Plan.” CBPP called the roughly $5 billion annual cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program “unprecedented” in “depth and breadth.” “If you look across the world, riots always begin typically the same way: when people cannot afford to eat food,” Margarette Purvis, the president and CEO of the Food Bank..
"There´s a mental health problem in Congress," says actor and liberal activist Sean Penn. The president could solve the problem "by committing them by executive order," Penn told CNN´s Piers Morgan Monday night. Asked if Penn would have "people like Ted Cruz" committed, Penn said, "He is my American brother. I won´t -- I think we should take care of him, he is in, he´s the trouble." "Well, actually have him committed," Morgan followed up. "Yeah, I think it´s a good idea," Penn said. Penn, in a rambling way, also identified a "lack of education" as a "huge problem that we´re dealing with
President Barack Obama personally authorised the phone tapping of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s mobile because he wanted to ´know everything´ about the world’s most powerful woman, it was claimed on Sunday. (Snip) ‘Obama did not stop the action at that time but allowed it to continue,’ said an intelligence official familiar with the NSA operation against Merkel image on Sunday. ´Obama did not stop the action but rather furthered it,´ said the Bild informant. ´The reason for the action?´ said Bild. ´Obama wanted to know exactly who this woman was.´ German handling of the eurozone crisis and its refusal to get involved
First Lady Michelle Obama and her Princeton classmate whose company received the no-bid government contract to build the HealthCare.gov Obamacare website were both members of a black student organization that caused a tense scene on campus by inviting a PLO leader who advocated for terrorism. Michelle Obama ’85 and her classmate Toni Townes-Whitley ’85, a senior vice president at CGI Federal, were both students at the university when their groups the Organization of Black Unity (OBU) and the Third World Center (TWC) engaged in a confrontation with Jewish students on campus. Michelle Obama was a member of both the OBU and TWC
Meghan McCain said she’s already defied the odds by not disappearing from the public stage after her father’s failed 2008 presidential campaign, and that part of the reason is some regard her as the new face of the Republican Party. “People project onto me what they want me to be,” said Ms. McCain, the daughter of Arizona Sen. John McCain, in Politico. “If they want me to be this spoiled, crass senator’s daughter, then they will create that and say that to be on Twitter and write articles on me.” Others, meanwhile, “think I’m the second coming of the new
In sad news from the land of McCain, “Raising McCain” host and McCain family scion Meghan McCain said in an interview with ABC and Yahoo News that her father, Senator John McCain (R-AZ), was “frustrated” and “depressed” by the Tea Party. Meghan termed the Tea Party the “hyper-conservative wing.” She said, “We’re both frustrated with the idea that only the hyper-conservative wing of the party is going to represent the masses.” The last time dad was this depressed, Meghan reported, was after he lost the presidency to then-Senator Barack Obama. Meghan said, “He is so depressed. He is so downtrodden. The way
We all expect presidents to be "economical with the truth" at least once in their career--but in the last few days Barack Obama´s administration has been charged with telling no fewer than three fibs on three separate subjects. [Snip] 1. CBS says that the Obama administration knew all along that what happened at Benghazi was a planned terrorist attack. Its 60 Minutes news show discovered two security advisers who say that months before the attack on the US embassy, al-Qaeda threatened to assault the Red Cross, the British and then the Americans. And--surprise, surprise--they went on to assault the Red
On Monday, NBC News reported that President Obama’s administration knew for three years that Americans would lose their current insurance under Obamacare. The story quickly became the lead at the Drudge Report, making it the hottest political story on the Internet immediately. For several hours, there was no problem. Then, late at night, the story was pulled, the link was changed thereby breaking the Drudge link, and stealth edits were made to the piece. In particular, one key paragraph met the cutting room floor: None of this should come as a shock to the Obama administration. The law states that
It’s just one tweet, but the sheer mendacity requires its own post. With the media finally in “now it can be told” mode since Obamacare passed and President Obama was reelected, pretty much everyone is admitting what all of us knew four years ago— that no, not everyone would be able to keep their plans if they liked their plans. And, yes, the Obama administration knew it just as sure as its critics did. It was a lie and an obvious one, but the administration, much of the media, and Obamacare supporters happily acted as if it were true and happily
Appearing by phone on Steve Malzberg‘s NewsMaxTV show Monday afternoon, Charles Krauthammer responded to Rush Limbaugh‘s criticism that the Washington Post columnist was “fooled” into believing President Obama was a “centrist” at the beginning of his first term in office. On his radio show, Limbaugh ran clips of Krauthammer and fellow columnist George Will telling Fox News that they initially thought Obama painted himself as a compromising centrist. “I intellectually don’t know how you can not figure out Barack Obama,” the radio host said. “A liberal is a liberal. I know Obama, for the low-information crowd, could be whatever you wanted
